Southeastern Conference commissioner Mike Slive has once again spoken to Tennessee coach Lane Kiffin and Florida’s Urban Meyer about public comments both have made recently.
SEC spokesman Chuck Dunlap would not elaborate on what Slive told the coaches or when but told The Associated Press the commissioner considers the matter resolved.
After a 23-13 win by Florida over Tennessee on Saturday, Meyer said his Gators played conservatively after he felt the Vols weren’t playing to win. He also said some of his players were affected by flu symptoms.
Kiffin later retorted that he would wait until Tennessee wasn’t excited about a performance and blame it on illness.
Slive spoke to the coaches about their verbal jabs before the season.

What actual power does Slive hold?
Can he fine em,give em a ticket,or just make em sit in a corner?

How about Witch Doctor, will slive be calling him?..

What a joke this country is coming to. What ever happened to good ole fashion trash talk to build up the excitement for the fans and the college football world. Meyer and Kiffin are grown men and deserve to be able to take a few jabs at each other. Grow up Slive or you'll bring this great conference into the laughing stock. Hell, trash talk has been going on for years...Spurrier.

I just dont get it.
The media loves it,the players love it,and the fans love it.Does Slive actually think the universities in the sec are supposed to like each other?

The rest of the story...
Slive made his comments to both coaches and to the AP, then called Meyer on the phone and told him to ignore what had previously been said. He probably told Meyer the rules didn't apply to him, just to that evil Kiffin. Then he wished Urban good luck, kissed him goodnight, and said he loved him.
SEC = Sick Evil Commissioner
As always, Go Big Orange!!

You know it is kind of funny.Slive doesn't miss a chance to jump Lane. UM clearly started this last round and Lane just let UM know he heard the BS comments. Just why wouldn't Slive consider the sourse of this conflict and stop it there? He just had to include Lane. Why? I guess it has something to do with what he considers bread and butter. What Slive did was allow the sports world to get a good look at his honesty. Fl isn't a cut above all the other SEC teams and should be treated the same. In the days of the Bear, Al could do no wrong, same for Mckay and So. Calif. Also from day one ND was on top of the don't touch list. Maybe it was just the reporting in those days but those coaches appeared to have more class than UM. The Bear for example when talking about Tx banging him around in bowel games.Said he thought D. Royal should let up on him a little. He was speaking highly of Tx coach and it was taken that way. If Slive is going to try to stop the fun in the SEC games he should jump the kid that starts the fight first.

Slive is a slime. His job is a made up job to give someone something to do. He has to feel like he earns his pay. He belongs in the gators pocket.
BigDaddyVol writes:
It's called "Get your team on TV". More TV time will only help recruiting, Kiffin knows this. He will probably start "sneaking" his jabs in a little more. He has got to take a few lessons from old ball coach (Steve of course)on this. Smile real big when you take your shots and don't come right out and blast Urban, do it underhanded as if it were an inside joke that Urban is goobish lookig Frank Burns look-alike that probably sleeps in a soiled Tebow jersey. He needs to make his referances vague where it sounds like he could be talking about any body but smile at the camera like "yea ,you know who I'm talking about." It will be just as effective and he won't get him in trouble with the powers that be. Then on the other hand he could just coach 'em up, kick everybody's but and he wouldn't have to say a word to get his team on the game of the week. Until we have the players to do that ,I say poke that Gator and make 'em cry just do it when the teacher ain't lookin'. Go Vols!!

adam,
I take the shuttle from the Civic Center almost every game. Sometimes I walk over, but the shuttle is really convenient and easy. It picks up between the Civic Center and one of the parking garages (on the other side of the Civic Center from the Marriott or whatever it is now). The cost is $4 for a round-trip ticket, or at least it was for the UCLA game. (It wouldn't surprise me if they charged more for an SEC game). I don't know if it costs to park in those garages or not - I usually park further down the street. I know they start running over 2 hours before the game, because that's when I usually get there and they are already running.
One word of caution, though: AFTER the game, getting back on the bus is NUTS! It has gotten a little better over the last couple of years, but it used to be a lot like a crowd at a European soccer game. I usually take the bus over before the game and walk back after the game (it's still the same price, though).

If Slive were a man of integrity, he would have immediately responded to Meyer's post game comments. Either way, it works out well for UT. Once again Meyer whined to the media reminding everyone the type of man he is. Slive just gave him enough rope hang himself.

Do you think you can really tell "what kind a man he is" by listening to clips of interviews from a coach that you have NEVER even met? Getting excited about college football is great, but assuming you know the character of Meyer, Saban, Kiffin, etc.. after listening to the retards in the media interview them is ridiculous :)
The media boys are losing their jobs faster than Washington DC is throwing away money these days. They love the fact that grown men act like little kids, and we "fans" eat up every word of it.

Slive wants to control the SEC image the way Goodell tries to control the NFL. Both want to protect their "brand" by controlling to the greatest extent possible what everyone says who is in any way part of the organization. It's not about sports, it's about BUSINESS.

Good one about Lundquist! That guy must have dirty pictures of CBS execs; otherwise, I can't figure out why he still has a job. He is by FAR the sorriest announcer on any major network, and he gets to do the SEC feature game! There's no justice, I tell ya'(;-P)!

I just got off the telephone with a friend in Florida (Gator fan)...and he and I agree, Slive is an idiot...Isn't his job for whatever betters the SEC (MONEY)?..Well hell, doesn't these jabs sell papers and put SEC teams on the TV? What kinda idiot would try to stop a rivalary that has all the nation in its grasp and is wanting to know how it will play out next? You think people won't want to watch a UT/FL basketball game to see if CLK signs Rocky Top all night long for Bruce like he said he would....for me, I'll watch to see of he and Myers are both there and what kinda response they give each other.....this UT bunch is gonna be a BLAST as long as they are here and I"M LOVIN IT.....
back2backchamps writes:
I agree with you John. And the media loves to beat a story into the ground. They can't sell papers anymore by reporting the news, so they run with whatever will sell :)

Why is Slive not asking for an apology from Meyer for starting this latest round when he accused Kiffin of trying to lose the game? Didn't Slive demand an apology from Kiffin over the rules infraction Kiffin mistakenly claimed? HMMMMM? And didn't Kiffin dutifully apologize? Why, yes, he did. So where is Meyer's apology, and where is Slive to demand it?
Come to think of it, where is Meyer's apology for repeatedly calling Nukeese Richardson when Richardson was taking his recruiting visit to Tennessee? And where is Slive to demand that Meyer make that apology??
And while we're on this subject again, why doesn't Slive take it upon himself to issue a new SEC pollicy that DOES make it against the rules for a coach of one school to call a recruit when that recruit is taking his visit to another school? Obviously, though that isn't an NCAA rules infraction, it ought to be. And if the NCAA isn't going to correct that mistake, why doesn't Slive's office take on that task?

Yea Mike is messing with the goose. WE the Fans in the Sec, are far the most part Southerns, hicks if if you go back a few years. Part of our heritage is saying it like it is and standing our ground. I think Fans all over love the excitement of a little jousting by the coaches and players. Even mouthly trolls. Slive appears to want to change the image of the SEC programs. I don't know why, surely the media loves the jousting. But Slive appears to have a Yale product view of the Southern style and wants to reform the world. He should leave it alone, we are who we are. Slive should also just move to Fl and get out of the Sec. He pats the SEC on the back while he pick their pocket He's just to into his own views for this Hick.
VolunteerLifer writes:
Well, maybe. Obviously, he would have had CAUSE to be in superior's ear every week, but since he was the coach at florida, and since what's good for florida is always what's good for the SEC, and since therefore the SEC office protects florida, he probably WOULDN"T have been in superior's ear.
Note how he was NOT in Urban Meyer's ear for causing the uproar last winter in the first place for repeatedly calling a recruit while he was visiting the Tennnessee campus.

Well I think it's absurd. Did Spurrier get reprimanded for what he said about Kiffin! NO! The whole SEC fanbase thought it was funny, the nation wanted to know if it was true, and people remained interested in the SEC during the offseason because of it (and other reasons of course).
It is what it is, and they are who we thought they were. Just let these guys go at it...
