Tennessee limps into heart of SEC schedule

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Replacing a top defensive player is not exactly how Tennessee planned to prepare for the heart of its Southeastern Conference schedule.

With Auburn and Georgia looming, the Volunteers (2-2) must replace middle linebacker Nick Reveiz and restore the health of other players despite being low on depth.

Coach Lane Kiffin says Reveiz is likely to miss the rest of the season after injuring his right knee in the Vols' 34-23 win over Ohio.

Tennessee entered the game without linebacker LaMarcus Thompson (back) and defensive end Wes Brown (knees). Linebacker Herman Lathers left the game after suffering a concussion and defensive end Chris Walker left with a sore back.

They're injuries the Vols can hardly afford. The defense, now ranked eighth in the Football Bowl Subdivision, has helped keep Tennessee competitive even when the offense is struggling.

Maybe we are limping, but we are not wimping into the sec schedule. No excuses. We wait all year for sec matchups and hard competition. Bring them on one at a time. Let's beat Auburn.

I agree, more of the 8 in the box and make us beat em with the pass. Gona be tuff, What happened to Berry to, seems to have been lost in the hoopla to.

Our defense will be just fine. We were without several defensive players against Ohio. Wes Brown (Inflamed Knee), Dennis Rogan (Suspension), Lamarcus Thompson (Back). And of course we lost Nick Reveiz (Knee) for the season and Chris Walker left the game early. Monte will have the Orange Crush back playing his style of defense this next weekend against Auburn. You can't play 8 in the box because Auburn will pick us apart. Instead we will play Tampa 2. Go Vols!

I was just sick to see Nick Reveiz's injury... all best to him. Where was Eric Berry??? I was watching PPV and literally in the 3rd qtr or so asked those with me.. is Berry playing, i have not even seen him around the ball, as he always usually is. finally about 10 plays later we finally spotted #14 but not in on a tackle. wonder why so different of a Eric scheme from last week where he lined up different places and was always around the ball?

Nobody saw Berry because Ohio ran all their plays away from him. They spreaded us out all over the field. I think Solich is a better coach than he gets credited. I am sure our staff would say they got out coached last night. We didnt run the ball enough and we should have had alot more pressure on the QB for him to get over 300yds is a joke. Hopefully our coaches and players just overlooked Ohio.

our D will be fine. do you guys ahve access to magic powder? the type that heals injuries in 5 days? there is a reason guys LEFT the game..it is injuries, back and knee injuries don't magically disappear in 5 days...prepare for true freshman on the D side of the ball

We'll be fine. Bring them on and GATA!!!

Btw, the reason most don't see as much of Berry is Monte has him in different positions than he had under Chavis. He's not 'free to roam'.

I have a feeling that the coaches needed to see if we could throw the ball, and if our receivers could catch the ball. It seems JC can hit his fellow teammates on occasion, but hitting our guys in the hands seems to be the wrong way to go. It seemed as if our guys weren't having to reverse field or dive to scoop the ball off their shoe laces they couldn't catch it.

It broke my heart to see Nick and his family on the sidelines dealing with the sadness associated with his injury. Is it a for-sure thing, this kind of injury? Haven't heard any more on his injury and the required surgery/rehab. Hopefully he'll be back next year and can assist us when we should be a better team.

Good luck Nick...

Go Vols! Beat Bama!

BobNOT4Vols, Coach Fulmer was a good football coach in his day. His day has past, get over it! Coach Kiffin is doing his best with the players he has to win. The cupboard was bare when he arrived. Without the sensational Freshmen he was able to bring in by drawing attention to the Big Orange, we would be in a lot worse shape. THIS IS A REBUILDING YEAR! GET OVER IT! Surely you did not expect to win the SEC Champioship this year with the players we had. I expect to make it to a bowl game at the end of the season. That is still a valid goal! Give the man a break and BE A VOL fan for once. Otherwise, find another team to support.
