It's Sunday night and I'm about to cut Tennessee's defense some slack for the Ohio game, which the Vols won 34-23 and gave up 340 yards to the Bobcats. I haven't seen the videotape, just gone over my play-by-play notes.

This is the same Ohio team that took Ohio State to the limit last year correct? And we had key absences in defensive positions right? I'm not expecting miracles. Lets take the "W" and move on to the kitty-kats and hope the passing game does not pass us by - again

You have an "Amen".

Bend but not break is a trademark of the Tampa 2. However, blown coverages are not! A good team would have taken advantage of those bombs and converted the short field goals into touchdowns. That defensive effort would result in losses to a lot of SEC teams, Auburn included. I'll take the win, but we must do better. Freshmen HAVE to step up now.

Ohio has come and gone. We for sure have a lot bigger fish to fry this week. I believe the staff will step up. Just have to wonder, though, if the play from one position is not affecting the confidence of the entire team. Just asking.

Two teams (Auburn & Tennessee) that, on paper, are very similar; especially in terms of new coaching staffs and the desire to rebuild/return to past glory. This is Auburn's first road game. Can we, as Vol fans, help our team and really make the home field advantage (betting lines generally consider that advantage worth 3-4 points) a true advantage for four quarters? It could be the difference. Go Vols!

Why is it that Mississippi State can be as bad as it was for the past years and still have better skill people than UT. Is it poor athleticism or poor coaching that is not letting our recievers get off coverage. Ohio had no problem gettin off our coverage. Surley our athletes are not that bad.

Solich had a gameplan, and stuck with it. I commend them for a good game. UT stopped their run, made them one dimensional, and we won a tough game. I'm more upset at how the Ohio band made ours look terrible. We used to have between 300-350 band members, this year only 190. hmm..

Why is it that long standing seller dwellers like Mississippi State have better QB and wideouts than UT. They get open our players are non factors. Is it the coaching? Ohio had no problem getting open against us and we are supposed to be real good.

One comment you made on which I agree is that after seeing the game on video a second time, I saw a lot more good than I realized in real time......on both sides of the ball. The defense, as banged up as they were, really harassed the QB all night and he didn't have much time to settle in (good thing too). The defense really missed Rogan. The offensive line was doing a really good job for Crompton. He might have made more of his opportunities, but he was better than he was last year (ain't a very high bar to get over, though). Finally, you're right, that game against any of the next four teams will be a loss. If we go 2-2 in the next four games that would be a monumentally good result. Frankly, I think 1-3 is more likely. GO VOLS.

I was watching the game on pay per view and the cameras caught Crompton and a couple of other players coming out of the tunnel and walking over to the sideline just moments befor the T opened and the rest of the team came running out. Is this normal? I would think he would like runing through the T.

At least Kiffin's team beat Ohio. Fulmer's team lost to Wyoming (and would have lost this game too).
CoverOrange writes:
The team captains have to be out in time to meet at midfield with the officials. If they don't they can get a delay of game penalty called before the game even begins.
hillsborovol writes:
Because the QBs and WRs that Fulmer recruited were either overrated and/or poorly evaluated by Fulmer. If you don't believe it, name a single QB or WR on this team recruited by Fulmer that will even get a sniff by the NFL. When was the last time that happpened at UT, except for last year? We need a serious upgrade in talent at those two positions.

Robert Meacham.

Meachem (not Meacham) played for the New Orleans Saints both this year and last year, not the Vols.

Pardon me Vols vans while I CUT THE CHEEZE!
If you like MS State so much, go be a fan on their site! I am getting tired of these jerk posers coming on here pretending to be a Big Orange fan!

GO BIG ORANGE, give Auburn something they have not faced so far this season - a real Slobber Knocker! Let's show them what Smashmouth football is all about!
