Vols to play Memphis in prime time

Tennessee has a prime-time date with Memphis on Nov. 6, but that might not make the telecast easy for everybody to see.

The Vols’ trip across the state will include an 8 p.m. kickoff at the Liberty Bowl and television coverage by CBS College Sports, a channel currently not available through Comcast or Charter cable in the Knoxville area but is available on Knology.

That’s the only start time officially announced for the Vols, though the home date with Florida and a trip to LSU are both expected to be tabbed for national coverage on CBS with afternoon kickoffs at 3:30 Eastern time.

Orange and White: The Vols also announced that tickets are on sale for the April 17 Orange and White Game. They can be purchased for $5 at uttix.com or at Neyland Stadium before the 2 p.m. kickoff.

So who does carry it?

volzinanyyear writes:

I have CBS C on Charter digital cable

HtownVol writes:

Never heard of that station. I think they are the only station willing to carry this game. UM will be lucky to get 4 wins next year, and even Memphis fans dont care about the football team.

But I NEVER miss a UT game (football or basketball) so I will do what I have to do to get it on my TV.

You have to have charter digital cable and the sports package included

Why the heck doesnt UT have its own channel ?

Probably for the same reason that no other team affiliated with a conference has their own network deal.

As part of the Southeastern Conference Tennessee and the other member institutions benefit from the huge media deals agreed upon by the conference.

Even Notre Dame, the one school that has its own network deal in football, only has home games included in that deal.

Pimp Slap the Tigers. There are good players in Memphis that need to eliminate the Tigers from any consideration.

I seriously doubt you will see that game televised here in Colorado. After seeing the 500 people in the stands during that E. Carolina game last year I am surprised they would ever have tiger high on tv again.

Funny. I couldn't figure out for the life of me why Pearl would schedule a game in the Liberty Bowl. My priorities have completely shifted, apparently...

This is news? Who cares! It's Tiger High. LSU and Florida, yea some of us might want to know about those, but Memphis? Not! By November most Vols fans will be so ready for Pearl and UT hoops, UT vs Memphis will at best be a sideshow.

I not only get it on Dish Network, but I even get it in HD on Dish!

It's on DirecTV as well. It used to be CSTV (College Sports TV), and CBS bought it. It's in the 600s. They show a lot of C-USA games.

HighlandVol writes:

For some of the commentary about next season on this site, I am surprised that we're even bothering to play the games. Folks, the sky hasn't fallen, so quit assuming the worst. There have been times when no one expected Tennessee to show up (1985 Sugar Bowl, 1998 National Championship Season), and then also times where we stunk up the place (2005 Vanderbilt, 1996 Memphis). So let's relax and see what the season holds, and IF your pessimistic views are true, you can say "I told you so" until you're blue in the face. Until then, let's go Vols!

I belive that technically, Kentucky is classified as a Mid-Atlantic state. I recall an old 1970's backpacking book that listed them regionally as thus rather than Southern.

Are you positive that Notre Dame's away games are not televised on their own national network? It seems like they are on tv every weekend, home or away. And why does the NCAA allow Notre Dame to have their own national network deal and yet not allow anyone else (primarily independents) to do the same? Talk about a unfair advantage. NCAA says that no program should be allowed to have unfair advantages (something that no one else is allowed to have) but clearly they turn a deft ear regarding this matter with Notre Dame and their exclusive television rights. I never could get a straight answer as for why the NCAA allowes this to continue. What's the reason?

Now, why would Memphis want the world to see a game in their city and their stadium turn into a home game for Tennnessee? I'm guessing that orange will outnumber blue in the liberty bowl by ten to one. Why don't they just reschedule it for Knoxville where everyone will get a bigger payday and the complete humiliation of the Tigers at least won't be in their home town?

Most games will not show a time until 2 weeks or even 1 week before the game, with exception to a few games, high profile and rivalry games that CBS knows they already want. Reason is because most weeks CBS gets the first pick of SEC games. Obviously CBS wants to take their time and see what the best matchup for that week will be. After that, ESPN gets their pick for their ESPN and ESPN2 game and then the SEC network game.

gbee,

I am glad you brought this up. For a long time, many people have wondered the same thing. The subject of fair play, the scrutiny of members by the NCAA.......
all this makes fans scratch their heads.

To give any one school a decided advantage over the others is beyond belief. For years, Notre Dame has been the recipient of free coast to coast advertisement, enabling recruits to give them first consideration in many cases.

Little wonder many have so little respect for the governing body of the NCAA. They pretty much do as they please and to heck with anyone who doesn't like it.

They will ignore obvious violations for some schools and often set up camp with their wary eye directed toward others.

The last game I watched in the Liberty Bowl was against Memphis State. As I watched the pre-game warmups I leaned over to my friend and told him the Vols were going to lose this game, you could just see it in the way they went about the warmups they were not taking Memphis seriously. On the other side, it was clear, Memphis was taking this seriously and they won, don't be surprised if it happens again.
