Kentucky guard Darnell Dodson won’t play this season

LEXINGTON, Ky. — Kentucky coach John Calipari says junior guard Darnell Dodson will not play for the Wildcats this season.

Calipari posted on his Facebook page Sunday night that while Dodson is academically eligible, he won’t be with the team when it travels to Canada for a series of exhibition games later this month. Calipari gave no reason behind the decision.

Dodson averaged 6.0 points as a sophomore last season, leading Kentucky with 50 3-pointers.

Calipari says Dodson could return to the team “if he meets our standards.”

Good news!!

Standards? Seriously? What 'standards' does Calipari have?!?

He must have done something REALLY bad if he can't meet the Smarmy Ones standards. He let Jeremy Hunt back on his Memphis team after permanently suspending him for beating the poo out of his girlfriend. Of course, like the current situation at Ole Miss with Houston Nutt and Masoli, good ole Cal didn't have an experienced guard going into that season. Funny how one's idea of "punishment" changes when a coach needs a player. Obviously, he doesn't need Dotson or it would be a different story.

BAD HEADLINES> Did the KNJ editor even read this story? It said Dotson would not be with the team when they go on an August exhibition trip to Canada. It said he could return to the team if he meets Cals standards (which wont take much!) "Wont Play this Season" ? Where did KNJ get that?

"KNJ"? Did your editor read your post?

My mistake, KNS. But maybe this group of Wildcats will finally allow Coach Cal to make it to the final four.

Exactly. Were Dodson a premier player (he isn't), "standards" wouldn't be an issue.

What Cal wants is another opening for next years recruiting class.

Standards? Perhaps, he won't take Calapari's money? Maybe that's what he means.

No doubt about that or Nutt's decision. I just get so weary of hearing these coaches say:

"We're teaching life lessons to these kids." (If they are an all conference performer or if they fill a position of need maybe. If they are a 4th stringer, forget it. They are on their own.)

"We don't throw these kids under the bus." (Unless it suits our purposes when we need a scholarship freed up of course.)

Call me cynical if you like but all I ask for is some consistency. For some of these coaches, it is extremely tough I guess to do that. And that includes some past UT coaches as well. (One in particular where the team discipline went to Hades in a handbasket over his last couple of years.)

Without the wins being vacated afterward? That would be no fun.

....the standards that get him the big NBA contract of course.....

Dodson is purely a 3 point threat;I suspect by Jan. he's reinstated..Cal's got a new set of fab freshman but there's no replacing Walls and cousins and the incoming talent won't develope as naturally as last years class

Maybe they should change it to "One and Done Night" at Rupp?
