University Of Tennessee announces stadium improvements, Gameday activities

As the University of Tennessee football team completes its final week of fall camp, and with the Sept. 4 season opener on the horizon, the University today announced several stadium improvements and gameday changes for the upcoming season.

While approaching Neyland Stadium fans will immediately notice the dramatic new plaza at Gate 21, complete with an arched entrance, permanent bench seating, brick pavers, and landscaping. Just outside Gate 21, a new amphitheater and “grand entrance” to the Hill serves as host location for the Vol Network’s Kickoff Call-In Show featuring Bob Kesling and Tim Priest. The Kickoff Call-In Show begins 1½ hours before kickoff. Other features of this phase of the Neyland Stadium renovation include:

• The Tennessee Terrace, a 1,804-seat area located just below the club seats on the west side. Terrace members have access to a climate-controlled hospitality area as well as enhanced concessions offerings.

• A large display area at Gate 16 that will house a twice life-size statue of Gen. Robert Neyland. The statue is being created by Blair Buswell, who has sculpted busts for the Pro Football Hall of Fame, and is scheduled to arrive mid-season.

• Large murals of legendary former Vols on the exterior of the stadium, featuring Gen. Neyland, Johnny Majors, Al Wilson, Peyton Manning, Doug Atkins and Reggie White.

Beginning with the Vols’ Sept. 4 home opener versus UT Martin, the “Vol Walk” returns to its traditional start time of 2 hours and 15 minutes before kickoff. The “Vol Walk” features the team beginning its walk from the intersection of Lake Loudoun Boulevard, rallying at the Volunteer Statue (Torchbearer), the official symbol of the University, and then proceeding down Peyton Manning Pass to Phillip Fulmer Way, entering Neyland Stadium at Gate 21A.

The Pride of the Southland Band commences its march 1 hour and 40 minutes prior to kickoff. The band route proceeds down Volunteer Boulevard to Andy Holt Avenue for the traditional “Salute to the Hill” on Phillip Fulmer Way, before entering the stadium at Gate 21A.

The Tennessee football team returns to the west sideline for the 2010 season, thanks in large part to the cooperation of the Student Affairs Office and Student Government Association. Minor adjustments to the student seating allocation were necessary to make this move possible.

Because of construction, access to the UT Athletics Ticket Office has been altered. During the week, the ticket office will staff a location outside Thompson-Boling Arena on the northwest side of the facility for will call pickup. The ticket office also will staff Gate 21 on gamedays beginning 4 hours prior to kickoff.

Season tickets and select individual game tickets are still available at UTtix.com.

TENNESSEE ATHLETICS TO USE FAN TEXT MESSAGING SYSTEM FOR 2010 SEASON

Tennessee Athletics in conjunction with InStadiumSolutions (ISS) will introduce a fan text messaging system at Neyland Stadium, beginning with the Sept. 4 game against UT Martin. This system allows fans to request immediate assistance from event management personnel through a text message.

“This system allows us to increase our efficiency in addressing fans’ needs in a simple and effective way,” said David Elliott, Assistant Athletic Director for Event Management. “Through the fan text messaging system, we are able to enhance our customer service capability.”

From a personal cell phone, fans can text “Vols” (a space) the issue and location of the incident, including the section number, row and seat number, to 69050. The fan will then receive an automatic reply message acknowledging receipt of the message, or if there is insufficient information, will be asked for a more complete message. Stadium staff, security or emergency personnel will be alerted and respond to the site.

Fans can text requesting assistance for a variety of issues including, but not limited to, medical, security, fan disturbances, lost children and customer service issues. Standard text messaging rates will apply.

REMINDER OF ITEMS THAT ARE PROHIBITED AT UT SPORTING EVENTS

• Weapons of any kind (including pocket knives)

• Outside food and beverages, cans, bottles, coolers

• Laser pointers, artificial noisemakers, strobe lights

• Video cameras or professional cameras (large lenses)

• Open umbrellas

• Radios or other audio devices without headsets

• Stadium seats with arms

• Signs larger than 8½” x 11”

• Large bags or parcels including backpacks and large purses

Why don't they make the Vol Walk the way it used to be starting at the player's complex. It gets way too crowded when they start right there near the stadium and you can barely see the players and coaches. And they have all these officers and staff blocking the view cause they all stand out in front of everybody

Johnny Majors but not Phil Fulmer?!!! WTF?!

Now if they would just let the team run through the "T" and not the "L".

Yeah. It only took Johnny 15 years to get over it. That is unless you heard about him going off yet again on an Alabama radio show last week no less. Critics on the other hand think Phil should get over it now. Johnny gets a free ride, but Phil has to crawl back? Geeze.

The rumor is that Dooley has purchased 96 golf carts.

It's a photo of Johnny Majors as a player. Can you honestly say Phil had a better playing career?

I have been a Vols fan since 1956. Have attended games since 1964, am a seasoned ticket holder, have driven from different states over 400 miles to attend games.
A vol through and through, let me vent one moment.
Cokes, $5.00 for a medium filled with ice, a hotdog $4.50, popcorn and peanuts $3.50-4.00.
I can afford these prices, but will not pay them.
Then pay for parking but be very careful where you park or car will be towed.
Have observed in the last four years in watching the Knoxville police at games. I know they have a hard job but why do they have to be so rude, hateful and give you the impression don't look at me, don't ask me anything, step a half a foot over the line Trouble. I have observed them yelling at women children and old men.
The trouble makers I can understand but not the average fan. Then be very careful how you drive away from the statium or you will be yelled at by the KPD.
Thank you for letting me vent.
This has been building for several years.
I have even made the KPD Chief aware of this.
NO answer.

Johnny took his lumps as well. If either would have set aside ego, then this issue would have been resolved long ago. Instead we've been forced to decide between two legends. I, frankly, choose both.
The "them" I was talking about was the people who decide on those kind of things, not Phil or Johnny per se.
Not trying to start an argument.

OSTOPPO say these look like Bo jackson stuff where he talked in 3rd person....Bo knows and Bo does this. It needs to STOPPO!! It has got to the point now that even the Wdoc(the originator) is pushing the envelope. It has been a while since a poster has used the term "being owned" . That particular poster disappeared several times and had to keep recreating hisself due to being banned. Yeah it was nafslov/naffy etc. The point is the cute wears off if we see it day after day after day. Wdoc periodically I can ease past(since I'm owned) and read the posters comments without feeling like I'm in 3rd grade playground talk. Oh well I need to STOPPO say OSTOPPO. That even bothered me doing that b4 my naptime.

Enhanced concessions in the Terrace simply means that those with seats in the Terrace will be able to purchase items like Philly Steak and cheese and other munchies that are not available in the regular concession areas.
These fans pay for these items as they get them. In other words there is not a buffett of "free" food like there is with the Club Seat area.
