UT first baseman Stubbs, Ole Miss pitcher Cooper transfer to Walters State

Jordan Cooper, who appeared in 8 games for Ole Miss last season as a freshman, has transferred to Walters State Community College along with Tennessee first baseman Cody Stubbs.

Copper, a former standout at Farragut High School, pitched 11 innings with no decisions and allowed 15 earned runs for a 12.27 ERA. He struck out 11 and walked 8.

Stubbs started 21 games and appeared in 46 for the Vols as a freshman last season. He hit .241 with 26 hits along with 3 home runs and 13 RBIs in 108 plate appearances.

He is expected to play outfielder for the Senators.

Let's just agree that some of you said some would leave and stop there. Or do you have to come back on and see I told you so ? That proving what? Ego stroking self for the most part.

I agree with you. It's unfortunate, but players leave teams all the time for many different reasons, whether it be the coach, personal problems, grades, etc. I hate to see Stubbs leave, because he would be a valuable part to the outfield, but may be he felt intimidated from Toles coming to UT instead of going pro. Good luck, Cody.

"this team is going know(no) where." correction applied and I no what I'm doing.....

on topic, where does that fit the article?

No matter the reason it is always a concern when a productive player that was counted on for next season, Cody Stubbs, transfers out. It is especially painful when one considers the performance of the team over the last 3 years.

Hopefully, the recently renewed concentration on recruiting local talent will pay dividends in the not too distant future,

I'm with you Plastic - this site had an article announcing him committing as a junior along with two other big "thumpers" back in 2008. His parents were Vandy grads and good friends with CTR. He loved his visits to UT. He played on a national USA Junior team back in 2007 and was a can't miss.

Don't know and can only speculate - he did not gell with CTR/program direction; or he did not make his grades; or he ended up not liking UT. There is little doubt he will be tutored well at WSCC. Those guys get gobbled up by the SEC and others pretty quick. He may be setting the stage to go to Mom and Dad's alma mater.
