Renaldo Woolridge injures ankle, won't practice on Thursday

Tennessee junior wing Renaldo Woolridge injured his right ankle Thursday morning and didn't practice with the team at Thompson-Boling Arena.

Woolridge appears to have suffered a sprain, although the official diagnosis has yet to be released.

“He turned his ankle coming down the stairs coming to practice,'' UT coach Bruce Pearl said. “We don't know the severity yet.''

Woolridge isn't expected to practice with the team Thursday afternoon, as the Vols are having double sessions in preparation for their game at No. 3 Pittsburgh on Saturday.

The Vols are expected to add sophomore transfer Jeronne Maymon to the mix before the game at power forward, which has led to senior Steven Pearl moving from second team at power forward to backing up starter Cam Tatum on the wing.

Pearl said Maymon has not yet been officially cleared, though he's aware Maymon's grades have been posted on another website and it's apparent the final clearance is a formality.

Is that the best you can do?

Woolridge is honestly the least productive player on the floor, unless stupid fouls are considered productive. His minutes are far better off given to S. Pearl.

Really? Come on man. Perhaps he hasn't lived up to his hype, but he gives his all. Plus he is using his UT degree for something... the music industry. Yeah it might be rap, but it's still something constructive. Perhaps not in sloooooow East Tenn, but go to Memphis. Better yet, go to Cali/ NY. There is as good if not better money in record producing as there is in sports. But hell, I guess guys like you prefer kids who get in trouble, or coaches who cheat. Woolridge WENT OFF against Kansas. Me, I will NEVER forget that.

I'm not the biggest S. Pearl fan, but he does deserve more minutes than Woolridge. I stand by my prediction, Tobias Harris will be an All American, and this WILL be a final 4 team.

RW is not the best player on this team but he does work hard and has occasional flashes (Kansas) He is also smart and helps the team in the GPA arena. I think down the road UT fans will be glad he went here as he will represent us well in whatever he does.

Agreed. I don't mean to bash any players but that is just keeping it real. Pearl is more productive than Swiperboy, but is he going to be more productive at the 3 than Jordan McRae would be? That's the question. I think Pearl is better off getting those minutes over McRae in this game given the physicality of the opponent.

That being said, I hope Woolridge recovers quickly and comes on strong down the stretch this season.

Woolridge is a talented big body player. He has yet to figure out where to fit in or how. But he may end up being very important to us this year as a rebounding, defensive three as he improves and grows, and next year as either a three or a four. I hope he quickly recovers and is available for duty this weekend.

Off topic but VERY IMPORTANT. Justin Worley (UT QB commit) has been named Gatorade NATIONAL player of the yr. This is a damn big deal. Gatorade State player of the yr is one thing, but Gatorade NATIONAL POY is on the Peyton Manning / Candace Parker level.

I like Woolridge and his defense is night and day better then it use to be. His shooting is not so hot but his effort and length has really helped this team. I really believe that other then Harris, any player on this team is replaceable. Its what makes this team so good.

Totally agree, he has no body control, shooters we have, we need more defenders and drivers to the rim. I can't wait to see JM play.

When you're up you're up and when you're down you're down. Woolridge has been mostly down but his "flashes" have been pretty good. Maympn though may be here to save the day against Pitt.
