Orgeron making push for Copeland

Ed Orgeron isn’t letting his Tennessee ties or the pressing recruiting calendar affect his advances.

The former UT recruiting coordinator, who has the same job at Southern California, contacted those close to Vol commitment J.C. Copeland on Monday night, encouraged the defensive end to postpone signing his letter of intent on Wednesday so he could take an official visit to USC this weekend, according to a source close to Copeland.

Copeland declined, the source said, and the 6-foot-2, 240-pound defensive end from Troup High School in LaGrange, Ga., is expected to sign with UT today.

Copeland opened himself up when he took an official visit to LSU last weekend after having been committed to UT since May.

A Twitter: For whatever it might be worth, Markeith Ambles changed his twitter profile picture Tuesday to a photo of him smiling and wearing a North Carolina toboggan.

The 6-3, 195-pound receiver from Henry County High School in McDonough, Ga., is expected to sign with North Carolina, USC or UT today. However, it is possible Ambles could postpone his decision until after National Signing Day.

Stone’s Stance: James Stone hasn’t been talking, but is expected to sign with UT.

That isn’t a guarantee. The 6-5, 300-pound offensive lineman from Maplewood High School in Nashville has been solidly recruited by Alabama for three years and coach Nick Saban has strong ties in the Nashville area.

This shouldn't surprise any of us given the events of the last few weeks. It's clear Lame Fibbin is not a man of his word.

It's one thing for an assistant coach to take a job at another school, and following the orders of his new head coach, recruit a kid he was recruiting at his previous school. A guy has to do what he is told.

But Lame Fibbin is a flat out liar. This is at least a half dozen kids that are committed to UT that him or his staff have contacted. I thought one of attractions of USC was that you walk out the door and fill a signing class. Maybe it isn't so easy these days with UCLA becoming a player in the PAC 10 again. Or maybe it isn't as easy to recruit with all the rumors about probation for SC flying around.

If a man can't, or won't stand by his word, he isn't much of a man.

You are correct, Lane Kiffin DID say that "he" would not contact the recruits but would talk to them if "they" called him. The key word is "he". Kiffin did not say what his staff would do or not do. lol remember he always seems unaware of what his staff does when put to task o being asked the "hard" questions or that he cannot control what ED O does.. LOL What waste of oxygen for the rest of the world Lame K. & Thug Co. are !!!!

Pay close attention to what Lame says he is pretty smart suffice to say. He CHOOSES his words very carefully in front of the camera

When he made that statement of "he would not be contacting UT recruits but would only talk to them if they called him", he just used the media to get that message out to all the recruits in one whack of hey "CALL ME" !!!!! LOL

Word is that Kiffen and Orge have been given the cold shoulder by many recruits out West. Between the Raiders fiasco and the way he did the Vols, many consider the USC coaching staff to be "dirtbags". It is USC though so they are getting looks. That is why they are going after these guys they recruited to TN.
Remember they did not do a good coaching job here. The clock management by Kiffen in the UCLA and Alabama game was horrible. Need we say anything about the gameplan for Ole Miss and Va Tech.

What Orgeron is doing now is NOT the same he was doing last year in efforts to recruit for UT. Not even the same game here. Yes the VOL fans like myself bought into the L & O Train Company and ignored the blatent signs of lack of character, respect, and integrity, etc... that were there all along thus we now are paying for.

We hired Ed from the pro ranks....so no Ed didn't recruit players to his 'new' employer that he had orginally recruited to his previous employer.

Gee, Vandy and South Alabama must be recruiting some pretty good players since UT's class probably is going to finish in the top 15 and maybe higher. Of the current players, it's doubtful that there will be a mass exodus unless they want to sit out a year. Unless there are more Nukeese's that we need to weed out and then I hope Dooley shows them the door.

I know that I loved it when he was doing this to other schools which is the same reason I don't fault him AT ALL for doing it to us. In fact, I wish we still had the entire staff from last year, but unfortunately for us Lane's dream job became available and I don't have a problem with him taking it. As far as us looking like fools, I don't buy that. I think we were about a field goal away from an upset and if they had stayed, a solid top 3 recruiting class.

FWBVol writes:

You are talking apples and oranges when you try to compare what the former coach and his staff did last year and what they are doing this year.

Every good coach recruits until the signature is on the paper. A good recruiter doesn't take "No" for an answer.

The former head coach said his staff wouldn't recruit any UT commitments unless the kids called them. But with at least a half dozen Tennessee commitments (that we know about), including kids that were already on campus and about to attend class, they did just that.

If Lame had never made the statement that they wouldn't contact kids committed to UT it would be distatseful, but the guy is a liar and that's what angers us.

What SEC school did O coach at last year, leave 3 weeks before signing day and then go after their recruits? It is NOT the same. New staff went after commitments at other schools that he did not already have ties to. Huge difference.
