Ed Orgeron isn’t letting his Tennessee ties or the pressing recruiting calendar affect his advances.
The former UT recruiting coordinator, who has the same job at Southern California, contacted those close to Vol commitment J.C. Copeland on Monday night, encouraged the defensive end to postpone signing his letter of intent on Wednesday so he could take an official visit to USC this weekend, according to a source close to Copeland.
Copeland declined, the source said, and the 6-foot-2, 240-pound defensive end from Troup High School in LaGrange, Ga., is expected to sign with UT today.
Copeland opened himself up when he took an official visit to LSU last weekend after having been committed to UT since May.
A Twitter: For whatever it might be worth, Markeith Ambles changed his twitter profile picture Tuesday to a photo of him smiling and wearing a North Carolina toboggan.
The 6-3, 195-pound receiver from Henry County High School in McDonough, Ga., is expected to sign with North Carolina, USC or UT today. However, it is possible Ambles could postpone his decision until after National Signing Day.
Stone’s Stance: James Stone hasn’t been talking, but is expected to sign with UT.
That isn’t a guarantee. The 6-5, 300-pound offensive lineman from Maplewood High School in Nashville has been solidly recruited by Alabama for three years and coach Nick Saban has strong ties in the Nashville area.
