Tennessee got the invitation it was expecting.
The Vols also received a bonus spot, but it won't go to Jonathan Crompton.
An updated list of players picked to participate in the NFL combine published Tuesday by DraftInsider.net included junior defensive backs Eric Berry and Dennis Rogan, but UT's senior quarterback was left off the guest list for the Feb. 24 event in Indianapolis again.
Berry's addition was no surprise given his status as a potential top-five pick in the draft this spring, and he likely won't even need the workouts to keep it. But Rogan could benefit substantially after he made himself eligible for selection and kept his name in after the deadline to take it out.
Crompton could have helped his stock with an appearance as well. After finishing the regular season as one of the hottest passers in the country, he seemed like a much more appealing draft option. A rough performance in the Chick-fil-A Bowl and a concussion suffered in the closing minutes of it hurt his standing, but he apparently won't get to make up for it in front of a huge gathering of NFL scouts -- though he is playing in this week's Texas vs. The Nation all-star game.
Fellow seniors Montario Hardesty, Dan Williams and Chris Scott were all previously invited to the combine.

Good luck guys!

Realizing that they share very few similarities, it would be cool if Crompton could be the next Tom Brady. After all, he was completely overlooked by many.
It happens.

Someone WILL snatch up Crompton! He has what it takes to play in the NFL, just wait and see!
VOLS.......TCB.......KOKO.........GBO!!!!!!!!!!!

been a vol fan for my whole life.... Crompton isnt NFL material, perhaps he should check out the CFL, WD how can you say he would be a steal? and another Tom Brady, ha are you kidding me?
morristownvolsfan writes:
Montario should do great at the next level. He was hands down the best running back in the SEC this year.
murrayvol writes:
Not as confident he'll start but he's got a good shot at making a roster. Who knew?

What about that guy at 'Bama?
SanDiegoVol writes:
Just because you have been a Vol fan your whole life doesn't make you a expert scout. Crompton can make all the throws has a high football IQ. Going through 4 different Offensive Coordinators would be tough on anyone. Ive thought Crompton has always been a good QB just in a bad system. He finally was in a good pro style system and everything started clicking. He just needs a little more experience and he can make it!

What kind of hands are those? That guy at UA had a little better than avg 2 years, huh. Seemed like Ole Miss had one when we played them if I remember correctly.
One of the best IMO. But hands-down? IDK.
MidTennVol writes:
That's kind of a reach, isn't it? I love Montario as much as the next Vol but..."hands down" better than Mark Ingram? Dixon?

This is totally unrelated, but I just had to share this. Comcast Sports has a column about how the college coahes don;t really care about the recruits, just temselves - and who's picture do you think they have as an example - our own ex-Lane the pain

I dont know why Hardesty isnt gettin more attention...the kid can play the game. and is very smart with the ball

I'm not so sure about Crompton starting in the NFL, but I think he really could make a solid back-up. It was never a question of whether or not he had the physical attributes. The guy has a rocket arm and at times he fit the ball into some tight windows. It takes a special type of person to be a solid starter in the NFL, and I'm just not sure if he has that or not. I wish him the best though, and I'd be lying if I didn't admit that I wish we had him for another year.. Hardesty could possibly have a few really good years in the league, but his hard-nosed straight up running style will result in some injuries I'm afraid. I just hope, for his sake, that he performs well enough early, so that he can sign at least one big deal and get his money before injuries take their toll. Running backs are a dime a dozen in the league and their shelf life is really short. Don't get me wrong though, I think he's an amazing athlete and a great competitor, as well as always acting like a gentleman in Knoxville. A perfect example of what we need out of our future Vols. Go Big Orange!!

6 wins or not, I'd enjoy watching Montario run through you.

The phrase "Fear The Cromp" was coinded long before he flashed in the 2nd half of the Auburn game.
This year the phrase is "Fear The Poole..."

Don't know about you marc, and I don't know beans about Rogers, but Ambles has always looked like trouble to me. Sort of a 2009 version of Nukeese.
Ever notice for the most part, the offensive linemen (Green, Stone) tend to play their cards close to the vest, and the "skilled" position players like Ambles and the defensive stars can't keep their mouths shut? We all know the O line apparently requires a little more smarts than defense, just look at the Academic AA's from the O line vs defense but I wonder if anyone has every done a psychological study on offensive vs defensive linemen. Builders vs. Destroyers. I think it would be interesting.

Great post! I agree completely about both Crompton and Hardesty. There certainly are guys with more skills and bigger numbers than either of them, but few have bigger hearts. Pretty sure the team that gets them, and someone will, won't have to worry about reading any distressing news about overnight arrests with these guys.

I concur. He's the best that they have on the roster but I bet they draft or trade for one this year. Of the seven that they have drafted in their short history...they haven't had a lot of luck!
Chris Brown is sucking them out of 1.7 mill (unrestricted free agent - he's gone); Leach is $1.5; Moats is a steal at a half million (restricted free agent - probably gone); Slaton is about $400K. I'm sure that Arian is making the minimum. Cadillac Williams, Adrian Peterson, Larry Johnson, Ahman Green, Willie Parker, LenDale White.....are all on the free agent market with a slew of others so who knows.

I agree Morristown! Hardesty could be a late first round or early second round draft pick with a great NFL Combine. If Arian Foster can make it to the next level Hardesty shouldn't have any problem. I just hope Hardesty's knees hold up. Good luck guys and GBO!

I love Orange Koolaid! It tastes great even without the sugar, lol! And who is your favorite team? Hardesty probably scored on them somewhere in his career even with bad knees Redshirt Freshman through Redshirt Senior year. And as someone else posted Hardesty never had the Hogmollies up front like Ingram and McCluster had in front of them. Not only can he make plays in the running game he can also catch the ball out the backfield. Maybe you need to check out the highlights from the Auburn game or the end of the first half of the Bowl game. GBO!

Here's another article from the all star practices in Texas:
Nation practice
Prize prospects
Tennessee quarterback Jonathan Crompton and Hillsdale left tackle Jared Veldheer were hard for scouts to take their eyes off in Tuesday's practice and that will be a recurring theme this week. They are odds-on favorites to be the highest-drafted players from this game.
Crompton completed only 58.3 percent of his passes for the Vols in 2009, but his accuracy has been good in drills and in live action this week. His velocity and spiral have been consistently better than any of the quarterbacks in the East-West Shrine Game or Senior Bowl practices, outside of West Virginia's Jarrett Brown (who struggled mightily against pressure in the game). Crompton does need to unload more quickly when throwing intermediate and deep outs, on which receivers struggled to stay in bounds even if the ball is thrown on the money.

Yeah, I agree. I love Jon's moxie but NFL QB's are all about the head, not the hands/feet. Manning, Montana, Aikman, Tarkenton, Staubach, Brady - all make/made their livings reading defenses, changing to better plays, and being the no excuses leaders of their teams. Crompton, according to Cutcliffe, is lazy. He doesn't like to watch film, he doesn't fully understand when he does watch, and he makes terrible game day decisions with the ball. We saw it last year until Kiffin simplified the offense to the point a good HS QB could understand it. Unfortunately, so could a good SEC DC. I loved Jon's heart and I hate how he was treated at times, but NFL? I just don't see it. He simply doesn't have the analytical skills or work ethic to make it there. I hope I'm wrong. Go Vols!!!
owpgfam#615513 writes:
I love how you make these statements like you have the inside scoop. Crompton has been referred to as a gym rat by every coach he's had. How do you know what he understands about what he's watching? You don't. When did Cutcliffe call him lazy? That's the funniest thing I've heard/read.

NFL-wise, don't think Ingram would be so physical and get away with it in the NFL, Hardesty, however, had a lot of moves to put on.
