Tennessee guard Cameron Tatum has a sprained right ankle after rolling it when the Volunteers hosted South Carolina.

Tatum wasn’t expected to travel with the 12th-ranked Vols to Nashville on Monday night but might still join them on Tuesday before they face 22nd-ranked Vanderbilt.

Coach Bruce Pearl says the redshirt sophomore had some additional swelling in his foot and planned to get an MRI and more treatment.

Tennessee (18-4, 6-2 Southeastern Conference) faces its toughest road stretch this week with a trip to third-ranked Kentucky on Saturday following the Nashville trip.

Pearl joked on Monday that one of his concerns was getting the orange blazer he wears when facing Vanderbilt and Kentucky dry cleaned while on the road.

don't worry about cleaning the blazer...just win!

I would love them to beat Kentucky, but please beat Vanderbilt. The more Vandy wins, the more obnoxious their fans are and I have to hear about it living in Nashville!

On the replay, man that looked ugly. Let it heal so we can use CT in the coming weeks.

Hang in there, Cam.

Since this schedule was arranged for ESPN to have their "rival week", I have to ask how many other schools have two rivals they are playing on the road this week?

Man that was a bad turn on that ankle. Hope he can get some rest and ready to play later down the road.

Don't get it....we knew all this when he left the floor on Saturday....another no new news piece I guess. As for the blazer, why would it need dry cleaned on the road? They'll be home Tuesday night and don't leave again til Friday afternoon....just more Pearl kool-aid for the masses I guess.

This type of injury may be with him the rest of the season. I hope NOT!

I had a similiar ankle roll-and-sprain in 1999 horsing around with friends, beer, and fireworks. I was on crutches 4 days and it took about 2 weeks to walk correctly again without a limp. I say Tatum might miss rest of the regular season, I believe is about 8 more games.

But I was not an athlete and these kids today come back quicker and quicker from these types of injuries.

We can hope Cam has a somewhat more scientific rehab routine than you probably had(;-P)! It would be a shame if he has one of those lingering, chronic things. I had high hopes for him to be a real contributor this year. I just hope he is good to go by the end of the season. We could use him now but we will NEED him in the tournaments.

Probably depends on how high up on the ankle the sprain is...you're more than likely correct though...its hard to recover quickly from those..

I have loved watching Tatum since his first game. He just looks like a man on a mission. It hasn't always been pretty but he is young yet. He'll heal fast and give us some great moments this year. He's already shown he can come back.

I bet you are right. I did something similar to an ankle way back in high school and it took forever to heal.

As the only Doctor which (like what I did there?) I trust, is there any kind of Shaman ritual you can perform to help our wounded BasketVoller in his time of need? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated, Doc. I'll hang up now and listen to the wisdom forthcoming...

Not sure, but I do know Vandy played at TN and then at KY during the same week. They were able to get a split, let's hope TN can as well. Would rather have the victory over Vandy this week for the SEC standings and tiebreakers.

Bad looking sprain...But the rotation will shrink and that to me is a good thing...I still think the rotating players in and out at a specific time is not working...Too many times a hot player gets pulled because of the rotation set before the game starts...Some substitutions are made in game situations but way too many times, if you really are watching the game and the bench, players get up and come in the game at certain minutes during a game...Even coach Pearl has said in interviews that the rotation is set before the game...I think that was proven not worthy when the VOLS was short handed with the suspensions earlier in the year...The players had longer minutes and the ones that were scoring stayed in the game longer...Go Vols..Beat Vandy

Amen! I live in the Nashville area and having been hearing about it ever since they beat us in football in 2005. I hate Vandy. Beat Vandy and GBO!

Speedy recovery and regardless of what a California pot clinic says, that green ganja won't help you heal any faster.

we all knew he was hurt, yes, but not the extent...and they have been slow to put out info, probably cause the sprain was so bad they had to do multiple diagnostics...I like others have been waiting to hear if there are torn ligaments or even a fracture. it was a 'bad' turn of the ankle...could have even been career ending, needing fusing like Bill Walton's...so don't give us phooey about you knowing the story already. i doubt the trainers and medical people knew the whole story till yesterday.

what is good to hear is that there doesn't appear to be any surgery involved, and hopefully the young man can be back sooner rather than later.

bigorangekoolaid writes:

WOW! Didn't know so many doctors and medical experts were on this site!! Impressive! Some can even determine severity of injury from their 300 level seats! LMFAO!

If I had a $20 bill for every time I sprained my ankle, I would be very rich. I sparined it so much when I was younger, mainly when I would run in gym class or something like that. I had to keep it wrapped up quite a bit and even missed time in gym class because of it. To this day, I don't even attempt to run in fear that it would happen again. My point is that I know how it feels, but I'm sure he feels worse than I ever felt because it was darn near broken. I never came close to that. I just know when I saw it on TV, it looked like his ankle had been snapped.
