The start and finish for Derek Dooley's first spring at Tennessee were already known.
The new coach filled in the rest of the dates on Friday.
UT will open with the first of 15 workouts on March 18, with either two or three practices each week leading up to the Orange and White game on April 17. Originally the Vols were expected to open the spring season during the first week of March, but Dooley has pushed it back and will therefore be able to operate all five weeks without an interruption for Spring Break.
As confirmed last week by former quarterback Jonathan Crompton, UT will also hold its Pro Timing Day on March 17. A coaches clinic is slated for April 8-10.

Has coach Dooley and his staff built a underground bunker on campus and hiding in it until spring practice?
Geeez, come out and introduce your staff to Vol Fans. Maybe even introduce yourself to our 2011 recruits too. C'mon Man.

I'm glad they're keeping a low profile as far as media is concerned. Let them go more public during or after Spring Practice. I'm just excited about spring practice being "soon". I wish i lived in Knoxville so i could attend a few practices. I'll settle for the Orange & White game tho. GO BIG ORANGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's up to us to fill in the rest of the story. Here's a starter : Will CDD be a visor guy, a baseball hat guy, or a boonie hat guy..?
cloudodust writes:
A players parent told me that CDD has held a series of one-on-one conversations with each of the returning guys. Asked questions, kind of like a job interview. Hey, it's a starting point with a bit less glamour than the last HC who stopped by Knoxville for a cup of coffee.

YEA! Any little crumb of Tennessee Football, I will take. Enjoyed the football posts on another site. I enjoy TN basketball, but for me, it is football. Spring practice cannot come soon enough. BTW just hope we get some info during spring practice!

I don't see him with any type of hat/cap at all. Maybe a hooded sweat shirt in real bad weather or a pork pie hat.
AtLeastMyTeamHasPerfectSeasons writes:
Looking at him on the LA Tech sideline.....he goes Majors. That is only sporting a clean-cut crew.
CadmiumOchre (Inactive) writes:
I'm sorry, you're all wrong. CDD is a derby guy. He's cut in the Bat Masterson mold.
AtLeastMyTeamHasPerfectSeasons writes:
Looking at LT highlights, he was quick to even take off the headphones, with NO headgear.

Just like a lawyer, never in the puplic eye until you wind up in court !!!!!!! Did U.T. football die after signing day or what !!!!!! Where's Hooker when we need him...lol
tnsportsman writes:
Exactly, I agree!
Tennessee needs Communication, PR and Marketing with the VolNation and Media! Regardless of whether we like it or not 24/7 News and Sports is a fact of life in 2010! If you are a Major College Coach today, you better be tuned in with PR, Marketing, Social Networking and Texting. IMO, those that aren't will be out recruited and have the Fan Base upset.
GO VOLS!
ps: when is Junior Day and who is coming? It would be real UT like in PR to present a list!

Hmm. I was kinda hoping for the Hoss Cartwright signature 10 Gallon lid myself...

You know nothing about what I'm talking about and it's not being like the Former SOB! It's about being in tuned with todays world of young kids that use the media and social networking.
And we as Alum, Donors, Season Ticket Holders and UT Fans have earned and paid for the right to information and making sure our University stays up to speed in using PR and Marketing.
Go Big Orange!

We had a coach previously that could not keep out of the headlines, and usually not in a good light. Yes, plenty of news, gossip, media attention, but not always good. This coach is not concerned with news for the sake of news. He is busy getting a handle on his team and program. I will judge him by success on the field and no NCAA interest, not taking shots at everyone and anyone and having to constantly be in the spotlight.

Yep & he also told the young men to focus on their studies. The ex stated the education didn't matter. The only thing he was hired for was to win football games. The Vols strength, conditioning, and mental preparation is now at another level.
Today's game hinges on playing fast & smart. Dumb & loud will only get you moral victories. Welcome UT fans to a whole new level of class. As the keyboard turns....

Yes, the talks started on Thursday Feb 18th, continued today the 19th and will conclude after meeting all day on Sat the 20th....according to what I read today. Pete was there along with several others. There was no mention of Kiffin. They are discussing football and basketball violations, with the most focus on football. They were told not to comment on any of the meetings. GBO!!!!!!!!!!

Hey folks just curious....are the new recruits going to be working out in spring practice and playing in the orange and white game??

Rome was not built in a day,Everybody is looking for a quick fix in football,I think Coach Dooley is getting a good foundation that will stand,I like the it we do not hear everything that is going on over there with football, save us from reading the negetive stuff ,from people that do not have the mind for building a program,He said that he will earn our trust so give him a chance, I beleive he is a little smarter ,not to open up all the bad talk,I am fine with it,GBO ,Hang in there coach
tnsportsman writes:
Only the 8 early enrollees can practice in the spring. The rest of the 2010 class will have to be in school in August to practice.
Go Vols!

Oh okay, thank you tnsportsman. Go vols!

I'm not talking about bad PR and breaking the rules like the Former SOB did. Good PR, Marketing and Communication from the Head Coach is part of a healthy and pro-active Tennessee Program.
Us Alum, Donors, Season Ticket Holders and the VolNation deserve positive information and the media needs positive sound bites and information in this 'New World of Instant News'. You either join what the world is doing now or lose out!
Real simple IMO
GO VOLS!

Totally agree. Saban doesn't sit in a hobbit hole during the off-season, he's constantly on the road marketing Alabama...and in case Farragut hasn't noticed we aren't getting the free publicity that Bama is getting after winning the NC.
I hate Kiffin, but he did one thing well and that was keep the University of Tennessee in the media. He took over the program at a low point and we DID improve from the year prior.
One thing I will never hold against Kiffin is his win/loss record. NOBODY could have turned the Vols into a championship program in one season after Fulmer's lazy recruiting and alzheimer-ish attitude towards discipline.
I'm glad Kiffin is gone (and more glad that he took the Crypt-keeper and Manbearpig with him), but we should resist the temptation to demonize every tactic he employed at UT. I'm not saying that we should return to the daily insults or weekly NCAA violations, but we should try to keep UT front and center in the media. TNSportsman is 100% correct when he says that UT has to be tuned in "with todays world of young kids that use the media and social networking."
If the mean, hot girl dumps you before prom, what do you do? You ask out her best friend...you don't sit around swearing that you'll never go to prom again. Think about it.
