Tennessee will have to do without its preseason All-American for the rest of the weekend.
But the Vols might be missing Cody Hawn much longer than that.
Tests on a shoulder injured Friday night in UT's season-opening win over Xavier are still being examined, but coach Todd Raleigh was encouraged by the early diagnosis of a sprain on his non-throwing side and indicated he could return as early as next week.
If so, the Vols likely dodged a major bullet early in the season. Before going down in the top of the fifth inning against the Musketeers, the team's Triple Crown winner from a year ago had already hit a towering two-run homer to get started on a defense as a junior.
UT didn't miss a beat without him in the 16-6 rout, but eventually the absence of its best offensive threat could have created some problems for a team trying to get to the postseason for the first time under Raleigh.
