Catholic High School offensive lineman Kyler Kerbyson was offered by the University of Tennessee on Tuesday.
That makes four Division I offers for the 6-foot-5, 290-pound tackle in just a matter of weeks.
Vanderbilt offered Kerbyson, a junior, on Feb. 9. Duke and Arkansas followed shortly after on Feb. 13 and Feb. 16, respectively.
Tennessee offensive coordinator Jim Chaney is recruiting Kerbyson.
With the recent influx of scholarship offers and attention, Kerbyson is maintaining a level head, Catholic coach Scott Meadows said.
“He’s handling it well,” said Meadows. “He really is. He’s got a great support system with his family. They do a really good job with it.
“(And) he’s been a great leader in the weight room.”
From his right-tackle position, Kerbyson was the highest-graded offensive lineman for Catholic this past season. He was an All-KIL performer and a PrepXtra second-team selection.
What he’ll play in college depends on the college, said Meadows.
“Arkansas likes him to play on either side of the ball,” he said. “Other places talked about him being an offensive tackle.”
Wake Forest and Clemson also are in the mix. Kerbyson attended a junior day at Clemson this past weekend. Clemson wants to evaluate Kerbyson during spring practice and for him to attend a camp there.
“It’s an everyday thing (with his recruiting), whether he’s getting offers or calls,” said Meadows. “It’s like nothing I’ve ever seen.”

Good Lord, CDD has barely been on the job for a month and half. Give him a chance. And if you want to root for Bama that bad, leave your orange stuff at the door as you exit.
KCHS_alum writes:
Saw the kid play all season at Catholic...He's a gamer. It helps to build a program with TN kids in the mix...the really good ones may want to stay home if they know they are valued by UT.
KCHS_alum writes:
Go to USC and root for Kiff or better yet, you know where all trolls end up any way. So save some time and go there now.
LCfastball writes:
When Bama or U.S.C. comes knocking on his door you just let me know....... Knoxville does not produce D1 talent.... And before you start screaming about Fuad's boy Nick, remember this, his daddy paid for him to go to school at U.T... He's playing on name only and everyone knows it.... You actually think he could play for Satan or Cryer.... That's why the vol's will be a middle of the pack team for years to come.... D.D. must think he's still at La. Tech offering kids like this..........
LCfastball writes:
Hated Kiff from the jump, but at least he went after kids that could play at Florida or Bama.... Not Vandy...
KCHS_alum writes:
Oh yeah...Kiff was the man. Scooped the heck out of Florida and wha'd we get...thugs robbing students at the Pilot. I'll take the mix of players including OLs with GPAs near 4.0.
Texassean writes:
You make a great point. Please make sure and tell Frank Beamer at Virginia Tech. He really seemed to struggle against us with 2 and 3 star local prospects. Or wait, perhaps it isn't just about getting the top recruits by star. Perhaps it is also about getting kids who fit what you are trying to do with your program. Maybe we could learn something from the Chic-Fil-A Bowl.

please tell me you are kidding A person that still supports Kiffin and would cheer for Bama. Man/woman whatever you are, just leave please
Southland writes:
scuse me folks but Tennessee has some great talent check the rosters of some of the big time programs dont be stupid about this. He will recruit outside of the state but when you have a young man within the city limits that can play you get him. Seems like we have let far to much talent from the state play elsewhere. go to all the other states and recruit. Sure but dont pass on talent when it is homegrown.
KCHS_alum writes:
It's a term of endearment...get over it and go whine somewhere else.
Southland writes:
well said, Frank Beamer wins a lot of games with classes that did not even rank in the top 25 of recruiting classes. Seems like some of you would learn after a while that the recruiting services all flock to the same spots and all say the same thing and overlook some tremendous talent and also some good people. Seems like a lot of the 5 star kids end up being thugs but if you still think Kiffin is the answer you really dont care about character or heart or honesty.
KCHS_alum writes:
Good post - Looks like CDD is looking at recruiting the same way.

Randall Cobb???
Those are just four that I know about at two schools! I'm sure there's more!
osbymartin#581730 writes:
I believe it was LSU fans that coined the phrase after he pulled something worse than a Kiffin... promising his team he wasn't going anywhere and then a week or so later bolting for the NFL...
illinoisvolfan writes:
Why are you so up in arms about this? UT made an offer and other schools will follow. No one even knows if he would accept the offer from UT anyway. My point was to give CDD a chance, which obviously you're not going to do.
Sometimes coaches recruit based on potential. This kid could pan out right away, he might need a redshirt year to hit the weight room. As I stated earlier, teams always need linemen. Based on his body of work as a coach, CDD knows what he's doing (ie: recruiting coordinator for the 2003 LSU National Champions). Hell, the Orange and White game hasn't even been played yet and people are ready to fire the guy. Just give him a chance...
TLepage writes:
Yes, tech beat us, but they have failed to beat upper echelon SEC teams when they have played them (i.e. LSU, UGA, and BAMA).... I'm not sure if we want to model our program after Franky-boy....
LCfastball writes:
You must like losing !!! I hate it.....
kharney#232751 writes:
Here are just a few D-1 players that made quite an impact at UT that were in state talent: Andy Kelly, Charles McRae, Reggie Cobb, Dale Jones, John Henderson, Shazon Bradley, Chris White, Johnny Majors, Bobby Majors, Jason Whitten, and Reggie White...... Just to name a few. I believe that a kid who grows us dreaming of playing for Tennessee will play just a little harder, work a little harder, take more pride in that orange jersey than others. It's a matter of personal pride.
So coach Dooley, you just keep after those homers. Real Vol fans love them!
illinoisvolfan writes:
I don't think any school in a major conference can make a living just recruiting 2 and 3 star players. Coaches will take changes on players like that who may fit their particular system, or maybe with a player who was injured his senior season, or stuff like that. I have no doubt CDD will continue to go after top talent with a surprise or two thrown in each recruiting season. And what's more, I think he'll win.
LCfastball writes:
Rogan will be lucky if he gets drafted... Warren had one good year at fla. st....X didn't have anybody else to fill the spot.. And your last comment, your talking Kentucky.... C-mon people are you all satisfied with U.T. and the failures in football... it's a joke in K-town.....
osbymartin#581730 writes:
They compete consitently does VA Tech. And calling a team that we demolished an upper echelon team almost made me laugh. Almost. They lost by 7 to UGA, by 10 to Bama and have split home and home meetings with LSU. Not to0 bad. 10+ wins 7 of last 8 years. Not too shabby. Sucks you have me defending VA Tech but Franky-boy has done pretty well in Blacksburg

he has done well in the acc, not in the SEC.... In fact, i can confidently say that program has never won a big game... I'm not sure if Frankey's model of success would work in the SEC... We are competing against Alabama and Florida, not a bunch of middle-of-the-pack football programs... As much as i hate to say it, Meyer and Saban are great coaches and have tons of talent on their rosters... We will not be able to compete with them with a bunch of two and three star kids... We need elite athletes to be a contender in the SEC and thats a fact...
illinoisvolfan writes:
I don't think any TRUE UT fan is satisfied with the last few seasons on The Hill. But, and pay attention now because this is important, ALL major programs go through periods like UT is at the moment. Florida weathered the Ron Zook years, Alabama survived seasons with anyone named Mike as head coach, Georgia has done pretty well following the Ray Goff and Jim Donnan periods. And guess what, Tennessee will come out of this funk too. GBO!!!
VOLinCockCuntry writes:
Don't forget Tyson Clabo from Farragut that is currently starting for the Atlanta Falcons. Fulmer really whiffed on him, considering his dad played for UT.
murrayvol writes:
I don't think Va Tech needs a lot of defending by any of us. They've been good for awhile.
osbymartin#581730 writes:
athletes are athletes it doesn't matter what school they are playing for...Randall Cobb is a great athlete..Chris Johnson played for East Carolina., does that mean he wasn't any good because he went to ECU?? Some of the greatest players went to school that NO ONE had heard of

And that's the truth.
JCJ1986 writes:
LCfastball, it's still very early in the recruiting process, alot of schools may jump on this guy's bandwagon later. If you remember Kiffin jumped on Michael Taylor early, he was at the time a lower-tier recruit, and his stock skyrocketed, and now he's headed down to Gainesville. But you and I are the only ones who seem to realize that loading up the roster with East TN kids assures us of a 4 win season at best.
InVAbutHeartInTN writes:
Ron Widby, D.D. Lewis, Bill Bates, Chad Pennington, Todd Helton....just a few Knoxville boys who were "not worth recruiting." It's heart, not location, that matters.
NeylandWest writes:
I sure am glad that Chad Pennington never took your words seriously.
espnthevolnetwork writes:
who are the others that are "loading" up the roster?
espnthevolnetwork writes:
I just don't understand why major colleges spend so much money on coaches with recruity skills and experience when all of the expets seem to be on blogs like this one.
Can someone please answer?
