RB Bryson wants to see UT at junior day

Jeremiah Bryson is ready to get his first look at the University of Tennessee.

The 5-foot-10, 175-pound running back from Smyrna High School.

Bryson said he’s never been on UT’s campus.

“My friends that have been there say it’s sensational,” he said. “They say it’s crazy how everything goes down there. I’d like to see how it is.”

Bryson has received scholarship offers from Illinois, North Carolina and Maryland. He said he’s also received interest from UT, Georgia, Auburn, Arkansas, Vanderbilt and Virginia.

Bryson’s visit on Saturday will be another chance to meet UT offensive coordinator Jim Chaney, who was at Bryson’s high school in January.

Bryson said he appreciated the interest Chaney expressed during his visit.

“It meant a lot to me for him to come to my school,” Bryson said. “I was pretty excited about it.”

Bryson has been excited to receive interest from Georgia, too.

He said he’s intrigued by the idea of playing for the Bulldogs because of the strong character of Georgia coach Mark Richt.

“He seems like a good coach,” Bryson said. “He keeps God close to him. He’s really serious about what he does and I really respect that.”

Bryson is being recruited as a running back but could also play defensive back in college.

Smyrna coach Matt Williams said Bryson is valuable because of his ability to play on either side of the ball.

“He’s a very complete player,” Williams said. “He’s so competitive and he’s not afraid to be physical. He can play anything.”

Bryson, who plays safety and cornerback for Smyrna, said he’s willing to play any position in college.

“I’m going to try running back,” he said, “but if I’m better playing defense, that’s what I’ll do. If I’m needed on special teams, I’ll play that.”

Bryson said he plans to take unofficial visits this summer, possibly to UT, Georgia, North Carolina and Maryland.

I remember playing against him in middle school and he scored at least 6 TD in that game too....I thought I was watching the next Reggie Bush.

I love this kid's attitude. "I want to play running back, but I'll play anywhere...even special teams." It sounds like he just wants to get on the field.

Yea u gotta like what you hear from this kid. How many recruits talk about playing special teams, seems very unselfish.

Thank goodness! I've read stories on a lot of different sites and I seeen several kids that say that they haven't been offered by Tn. Well, that might be ok, given CDD's time here but these same kids are being actively recruited by Al., Fl., Ga., USC-w, etc, etc. Then the recruits say, "I haven't heard from Tn. yet, was kinda hoping for an offer"... Reporter-Who's leading right now, it's Al. because they offered first, or Fl offered first. Most of these recruits are 4-5 star players too. Then ya hear about CDD offering a 3-star that was "being recruited by TCU, Duke, etc. It doesn't help perception of our new coach and his recruiiting. I hope I'm speaking prematurely on this, but it's a bit bothersome.
GO VOLS!!

i really hope we can score the athlete from Jackson... Is he going to be on campus this weekend???? That would be a nice start to the 2011 class..... GO VOLS!!!!

I've seen him play several times. He's a good corner but I believe he will be a RB. After hitting the weights he should play at about 190. He is lightening quick. I hope we recruit him hard.

Like the comment about Richt keeping God close to him. Hate them Dogs but Richt is a class act and it feels good to be able to say the same about our coach.
Speaks well of Bryson to know that is an important quality to him.

in response to transplantiam I think I see a pattern developing in CDD's recruiting agenda and I am in total agreement with it. It seems he is looking to the future and trying to bring in quality recruits/atheletes with 5 star attitudes when it comes to responsibility, good grades priority and team first mentality. I had much rather have unselfish TEAM players who are 3 or 4 star players and understand the importance of maintaining good GPA s than to have a bunch of 5 star selfish all about ME players who could care less about UT traditions or maintaining passing GPA s. At least with good atheletes who are young unselfish TEAM players he won't have to worry about getting them out of jail or kicking them off the team and wasting his time as well as scolarships on the unworthies.

I played with him in high school. (Smyrna TN). He is a great athlete but i think he will end up playing cornerback. He is a great running back but a little undersized to run the ball in the SEC. BEst of luck to him though. I would love to see him come here. That would be two from Smyrna, as most people know Rod Wilkes.

Vay_Owe_Ale_Ace writes:

Go (Smyrna) Bulldogs! Haha, Matt Williams was my U.S. History teacher back in 2001, now he's the head football coach of the purple and gold!

And yes, Marsalous Johnson played for Smyrna, as did Rod Wilks.

As stated by Dooley, this class needs to be loaded with linemen, which won't typically have as high a star rating as skill position players,so some people need to stop pulling their hair out and calm down. Do you honestly think Dooley is not going to offer the best players that are out there? These kids are juniors that haven't even played their senior seasons yet...calm down. This instant gratification generation is ridiculous. Let's see if they play well their senior season before we get our panties in a wad.

i said i wanted quality players and didn't care where they are from... I also said signing a couple of local boys per year was a good idea if they can play.... Washington is a 4 star prospect and a top 150 player.... You once again have shown that you have to no idea how to comprehend what you read.... Once again, go back and read my post....
