Athlete Dixon commits to Vols

Tennessee picked up its 20th commitment of the 2010 class when recruiting coordinator Ed Orgeron extended a scholarship offer to Marques Dixon from Southwest Dekalb High School in Decatur, Ga.

The 5-foot-10, 185-pound athlete also considered Miami, Southern Miss and UAB.

'Coach Orgeron was great,' Dixon told InsideTennessee.com. 'He laid a complete plan for me. He went over my academics, gave me a plan for me to be able to get ready for the next level. He broke down the roster and showed me where I can be an asset to their program.'

Seems like a pretty good commitment-- I'm sure he has a lot of potential if the UT coaching staff offered him a scholarship. If he has a good attitude and works hard, he could contribute early.

This may very well be an excellent recruit. Kiffin stated he wanted some speed. Dixon has 4.4 speed. To heck with the 3-star rating. He will be a good one.

Scout.com only gives him 1. Got to get what we can get now. I still think it will be a top 15 class.

MANY MANY good football players were 3* recruits and these coaches know how to find them...Dexter McCluster for example was found by Coach O! Also Sam Bradford was a 3* recruit for Oklahoma and he only won a little trophy called the HEISMAN! So I say...welcome aboard young man and best of luck to you. Keep your head straight, work hard, and we'll be chanting your name on Saturdays!

MVP of Under Armour was Tennessee *** commit. Possibly best give all future recruits drug tests and test for GSR. I know. Would violate all kinds of civil rights laws. Besides, " good ole boy" hunters could test positive for GSR.

All this talk about stars and where our recruiting class ranks is pointless. With the exception of maybe one class in recent years we had a top ten class every year. Then look where that got us. If they can't stay in school for whatever reason then it does not matter how many stars they have. A three star with character is of more benefit than a five star that is not in school a year or two later. Not that all five stars lack character, it just seems that in recent years we have gotten a few duds. Even if we end up with a top five class this year, I'm waiting a couple of years to evaluate it.

Tired of reading about star rankings and such. They are all 0 stars when they set foot on college campus and then have to earn their ranking. Star rankings are just for the fans to brag and to let these 17-18 year olds be primadonnas for signing day. I thought UT fans didn't care about stars anyway, I thought we are only looking at character now instead??

Yep, you're right. We should trust your player evaluations! How the hell can you know anything about players other than what you read if you're on GVX all the time, AND on the Florida boards like you say you are. You can't judge talent on a computer. So your assessment of any player is basically just a bunch of BS. Quit lying!

What a dumpuck doofus.

From your link, consider Auburn, currently ranked #3 with 27 commits (verbal, not signed). They have 2 5 stars, 10 4 stars, and 14 (FOURTEEN, cr@p-for-brains) 3 stars.

Tennessee has 12 4 stars (not drastically different from Auburns 2 5s and 10 4s) 7 3s (which includes Michael Taylor, underrated recent MVP of the allstar game), and we still get to sign 8 or 9 more people. If they are ALL 3 stars we will still be up there close to Auburn who essentially is done. Notice also, dipstick, that Tennessee's avg stars (which apparently is really important to maroons like you) is the 5th best on the list.

As was said earlier, you're pathetic and prove yourself to be somewhere between embecile and flat-line with every post.

Very nice thanks for the link. Has some very good moves and can play both sides of the ball. Had a nice pick in the inzone in one shot. If he plays in ATL has some good competition around him. I proud to have him give a verbal and hope to see his name on VOLS list on signing day.

He looks like a project, but so was 3-star LB Patrick Willis whom practically no one else wanted out of H.S. ... and Orgeron had a fair degree of success with him at Ole Miss. Ordinarily I would not be at all excited with this guy, but I do trust E.O. as an evaluator of talent.

You guys can't always judge a player by their star ratings...some of these guys play at big schools with more talent in their area. I mean look at Chris Donald, he was a 5 star but he played against 1A talent. Look at Michael Taylor, he's a 3 star, but he plays against more talented competition.

Good link, SteamboatTicket.
I like how he seems to have good instincts on when to wait for blocks, and when to take off.
I also like how it looks like he's just jogging in a few of those plays, but he's still getting separation from opponents who seem to be going full speed.
He could definitely fill a need if he can return punts/KOs well for UT.
GO VOLS!

Speaking of Mc Cluster.. did you see his breakaway TD in the bowl game!! Break away is putting it mildly. Dude has some serious speed. A couple of guys looked like they had the angle on him and he still outran them....

I think your confusing what we said about Nukeese to what you guys said said about Ambrose. No one on here compared Nukeese to Percy but every Gator Nerd said you would never miss Percy that you had 5 just like him. How did that work for you? Your receivers sucked this year. You couldn't replace Murphy much less Harvin. You have zero cred and apparently limited knowledge of your own team.

vet4ut writes:

Yes, he is a 3-star athlete. More importantly, he is from a high school football factory of big-time division 1 players.

DC can step off. He should know why this is a good get...

It's not about this 1 player but about getting in good with the coaches and the other players down the line.
And, this dude may end up being a good contributor.
