Kiffin says Southern California won't actively recruit UT commitments

Former Tennessee football coach Lane Kiffin told the News Sentinel on Wednesday that he nor his staff will actively recruit any of UT's commitments.

Kiffin, who will be introduced as Southern California's coach later today, said the players that were told not to attend class today by former UT recruiting coordinator Ed Orgeron, were only told to do so after their families called him and inquired about their options.

Kiffin said he would only recruit UT's current prospects if they announced publicly they were no longer interested in UT.

Kiffin said, for the most part, the two schools wouldn't likely be recruiting the same prospects.

He could always man up and say that every one of those players who committed to UT ought to honor their commitment...but commitment and being a man don't register with Lil' Kiff

He also said he wanted to coach @ UT.

It seems to me that you either recruit a player or you don't. Does a player pulling his commitment mean he is no longer interested in UT Kiffin? I don't think so. Why wouldn't they be recruiting the same players? Don't usc and UT only want the best players? What a load of garbage! Sounds like someone is starting to realize how bad they look and is doing damage control. I hope no one is buying this phooey.

Keffin Statement of Recruiting Committed UT Players - The integrity and anything else that Kiffin desires to say has absolutely no credibility period. Does Kiffin think that the Vol Nation is stupid and dumb enough to believe that statement in not going after UT committed recruits...one only has to look at Orgeron and what he was doing while Kiffin was in the press conference. UT is better off in the long run with Kiffin now gone and that includes the "horse on which he rode in on".

Watched Kippy on UTSports. Loved everything he said about how he tells recruits to committ to a school, it's fans, and it's traditions, not to a coach. Coaches come and go, but the school is always there. I wonder how many of these primadonnas will actually listen to him? Looks like Bray and his folks did. JC Copeland, too. Let's see who else is gonna man up and stay for the right reasons.

Hamilton said mid-termers enrolled as of 12:01 this morning (Wed.) were in school, i.e. it's not 'going to class' that's the determining factor. He also said Tennessee was not considering granting any waiver to any commitment in school.

Did I hear this right? So, all of the mid-termers are on the team and would have to transfer and sit out a year? Hamilton said he met with the mid-termers at 10:00 this morning. I'm guessing this was to encourage them and explain the rules.

I really hate Lane, his dad and Coach blOw..They are a bunch of scumbag weasels that were given a great opportunity by UT and then shove it up our arses 14 months later. It will be a mircacle if we can hold onto 50% of the blue chip recruits in this class. We need to hire someone that considers UT their final coaching job and want to work here the next 15-20 years. Anything else, will be a major mistake e.g. Muschamp (he will bolt for Texas or UGA in a NY second!!)

Maybe we should no longer call a kid selecting a school a "commitment". That's a term used by people with "Character".

I wouldn't believe a thing LK said if his tongue came notarized.

To say he would only recruit kids if they said they are no longer interested in Tennessee is the biggest bunch of double talk in the world. It is painfully obvious now that he was selling them a bill of Lane Kiffin goods rather than the University of Tennessee.

Yes, I know kids base a large part of their decision to attend a school based on the coaching staff, but the school and all it has to offer should come into play as well.

What I like about what Kippy Brown had to say was he would sell Tennessee first and the tradition that is Tennessee and all the things we love and are passionate about as Tennessee fans.

Whether Kippy gets the head coaching job or not he needs to stay on the staff because he understands what it means to be a Tennessee Volunteer.

best comment ever on GVX...i've been reading since it started.

i don't blame kiffin for leaving but i do blame him for lying to the current players, recruits and the fan base.

anyone that wants to still play for him at this point can gladly leave the state of tennessee.
