Wright, Price lead Lady Vols

Phoebe Wright and Chanelle Price ran to victories Saturday in the Kentucky Invitational as Tennessee's indoor track and field season got underway in Lexington.

Wright won the women's mile in 4:43.5.

Price took the 800 meters in 2:06.95.

"We had a successful first meet, posted several personal bests and qualifying marks, and came out of the meet healthy," said J.J. Clark, director of track at UT. "Our teams showed a lot of positive energy, had a solid performance and demonstrated some good team unity in our first meet together. I thought we were able to shake the rust off a little bit today, and I'm excited about the upcoming meets as we prepare for the bigger meets down the road."

Annie Alexander was second in the shot put at 54-7.25.

Evander Wells had the top finish for UT's men, taking second in the 200 meters at 21.20. Wells was also fourth in the 400.

Jackie Areson was fourth in the women's 3,000 and the UT men took fourth in the 4x400 relay. Robert Rasnick vaulted 15-7 to take fourth place for the Vols.

On Friday night, UT freshman Tyler Stepp took third place in the men's high jump at 6-10.25.

Women's Tennis: Rosalia Alda and Zsofia Zubor each had wins in singles and doubles for No. 11 Tennessee as the Michigan Invitational got underway.

Sixth-ranked Caitlin Whoriskey, meanwhile, lost 1-6, 4-6 to No. 7 Laura Vallverdu of Miami.

Alda topped Gabriela Mejia of Miami, 6-4, 6-3. Zubor bested Danielle Mills of Miami, 7-6, 6-1.

UT got wins from all three of its doubles teams against Washington.

Alda and Zubor won at No. 2, 8-1. Whoriskey and Natalie Pluskota won 8-6 at No. 1. Katie Lee and Maria Sorbello won 8-0 at No. 3.

Men's Tennis: Tennys Sandgren won his UT men's debut on Friday at the SEC Indoor Championships in Norcross, Ga., beating Jonas Luetjen of Ole Miss, 6-4, 2-6, 6-3.

Then the mid-term addition lost in the round of 32, 1-6, 6-3, 3-6, to Eric Quigley of Kentucky.

John-Patrick Smith, Davey Sandgren and Boris Conkic notched wins for Tennessee in the round of 32.

Top-seed Smith beat Chris Doerr of Mississippi State, 6-3, 6-1. Davey Sandgren beat Artem Ilyushin of Mississippi State, 4-6, 6-0. Conkic topped Will Reynolds of Georgia, 6-4, 6-2.

Conkic and Tennys Sandgren won doubles in the round of 32, beating opponents from LSU 8-3.
