Chism missing practice with knee sprain

Tennessee senior Wayne Chism will miss today's practice on account of a sprained knee, according to Vols coach Bruce Pearl.

Chism left Saturday's game at Georgia at the 9:22 mark of the first half.

After a trip to the locker room and a thorough examination, Chism returned and played 27 minutes in the 78-63 loss.

“With him having a sprained knee, and not playing today, and seeing what happens tomorrow, it's a challenge,'' Pearl said. “He (Chism) has been living with trainer Chad Newman.''

Tennessee plays host to Vanderbilt at 7 p.m. Wednesday in Thompson-Boling Arena.

Chism is second on the team with a 11.8 points-per-game scoring average, and he leads the Vols with 6.4 rebounds per game.

I cringed on the replay where Wayne got hurt. Close to being alot worse. Take care of yourself, Wayne. We need you down the stretch big man!

Bring back Williams. The punishment has already fit the crime.

Got to get him ready as that was a rough blow to his knee in the GA game. Does anyone know when Williams will be back if EVER???

volnsc writes:

The hit looked bad on TV. He needs to get fully healed and not hurt it any worse. Hate it for Wayne. A true Vol. His value to this program over the last four years has always been understated and underappreciated by many, but not CBP.

Surprise. I actually agree.

I actually thought he tore something in his knee when he hit the floor cringing and slapping the floor. The replay made it look worse than it turned out. Get better Wayne and as others have stated we need you big guy! GBO!

The replay of the collision of Wayne & the Ga. player looked really bad. I am very glad to know it is a sprain & not something much worse. Get well as fast as possible, Wayne, we need you!! But your health & healing of your knee is the most important thing of all. I saw the radio show after the game when you had your little son with you, he is precious! Thanks for bringing him out for us to meet.

Take all the time you need, big fella! We're gonna need all you can give to slam the 'Dores on Wednesday. Like everybody else, I thought he was gone for the season when I saw that collision.

VolJunkie writes:

Should be no correlation between Wayne's health and Williams' return. If the punishment is done then so be it, otherwise we will play with who we have. I know CBP will do the right thing.

Go Vols!

VolunteerLifer writes:

We're already way too thin at the post to risk losing Wayne. Hopefully he's ready enough to play Wednesday, but if not I say don't risk a worse injury by playing him just to win one game. It isn't worth it.

I totally agree. I think CBP knows what he is doing.

It's gonna be a tough one. I hope you're right. With Wayne presumably limited, some of the other guys are going to have to step up, especially from behind the arc.

If Williams comes back he may have to sit and watch Kenny Hall!! Great play for a freshman!

I'm guessing Williams' fate with the team is tied to outcome of the 29Jan court date...Get well soon, Wayne.

Okay, everybody wanted all 4 of those guys kicked off the team with no questions asked when they got arrested. Now that the team has lost and face some adversity with possible injury, people want them back. You can't have it both ways and judge when they come back based on the teams play.

What do you think Ogilvy will do to a freshman? Hope Kenny continues to improve - he has All-SEC potential next yr.

Poor Weezy has had a tough year on both knees. I wish everyone on this team had his strength, determination and drive to succeed.

yeah...but do the missed layups and lack of b@lls fit the team?

Chism's pretty tough; no one on this team can fill his shoes...If you watch the replay; the GA. player he ran into is smiling while Wayne is rolling in pain..What a classless jerk!!!
