Saban's wife has input on look of statue

Work has begun on a statue of Alabama football coach Nick Saban and his wife will have a say in how it looks.

The Tuscaloosa News reports that the completion goal for the statue to commemorate the Crimson Tide’s fifth national championship coach is April 17, the date of the annual A-Day spring game.

MTM Recognition, the company that did the statue of the four previous UA national title coaches along the Walk of Champions plaza outside Bryant-Denny Stadium is also doing the bronze replica of Saban.

Project manager Corey Beltz says Saban’s wife, Terry, is one of several people who gets to give input.

Beltz says they’ve been told to emphasize Saban’s love of student-athletes and of teaching.

UA athletic facilities director says the cost is estimated at about $50,000.

I think they should emphasize his total lack of personality and charm. It should wear his perpetual scowl since the man is physically unable to smile. It should be cold, heartless, stonelike... kind of ... hey... like a statue!

AWOLVol writes:

Does this mean that they have statues along the road to their landfill that display Mike DuBose, Dennis Franchione, Mike Shula, Ray Perkins, Bill Curry, and Mike Price??? I've always thought re-naming our campus streets after sports figures was a little cheesy, but this is just straight up narcissism.

rockytopatl writes:

And after he leaves to go back to the pros, or to Florida after Urbie wigs out, they could let the statue take over the team and not skip a beat!

How exactly do you emphasize his "love of student-athletes and of teaching" on a statue? Is he smiling to hoards of students (no... he doesn't do "smiling")? Does he have his arms wide open as if he's going to give a hug (no... only opens up arms to complain about a penalty)? Is he going to be portrayed sitting on a desk writing checks to scholarship funds so people will leave him alone about non-football things such as making a statue of him?... ding ding! Winner!

KNS must be snowed in today. You would think, with 3 days 'til NSD, there would be SOMETHING to report. Hell I so bored, I'm sittin' here waitin' on Bob Ross' Joy of Painting to come on......it's always good for a nap.

I wonder if this statue has a replacement insurance policy on it. If it is to honor Saban, it might bolt like him when he does the same to Bama he has to 3 other teams.

We've had weeks of nothing but rain here in Calif. But it must be really bad there in Knoxville and East Tenn. I can't think of anything more boring that talking about a Statue of Saban with only three more recruiting days before NSD. Well maybe I can. I sit here day after day waiting on news about the Vols. Sure wish KNS could drum something up that we could all gripe about. Both TJ and WD are strangely quite and I don't see much from 99. A few Trolls need to be held under water until the bubbles stop. Well here is hoping for something before tomorrow.

Hey, the Senior Bowl is on....3 Vols are playing right now. That's more what Vol fans want besides Saban statue news.

Saban is getting a statue for winning a National Championship. Something Doolittle will never have to worry about.

Why is this news? Does somebody at KNS have some man love for Saban? How about an update on the recruits that did make it in for a visit?
