The New Jersey Nets cut former Tennessee basketball standout Wayne Chism on Saturday.
Chism was one of 18 players trying to make the Nets’ summer league team and competed in two days of practices.
New Jersey coach Avery Johnson, who is overseeing the practices, will keep 10 or 11 players to compete in the Orlando, Fla., summer league, which begins Tuesday.
“Wayne is obviously disappointed, but he’s anxious for his opportunity with Sacramento,” said Jared Karnes, Chism’s agent. “This kind of thing happens in the summer league, and you don’t always get a clear explanation.
“This is why we set Wayne up with two different teams.”
Chism will fly to Sacramento on Friday and practice two days with the Kings with hopes of making their Las Vegas summer league team.
Sacramento will play in the Las Vegas summer league from July 12-18.
