Nets cut Chism from summer team

The New Jersey Nets cut former Tennessee basketball standout Wayne Chism on Saturday.

Chism was one of 18 players trying to make the Nets’ summer league team and competed in two days of practices.

New Jersey coach Avery Johnson, who is overseeing the practices, will keep 10 or 11 players to compete in the Orlando, Fla., summer league, which begins Tuesday.

“Wayne is obviously disappointed, but he’s anxious for his opportunity with Sacramento,” said Jared Karnes, Chism’s agent. “This kind of thing happens in the summer league, and you don’t always get a clear explanation.

“This is why we set Wayne up with two different teams.”

Chism will fly to Sacramento on Friday and practice two days with the Kings with hopes of making their Las Vegas summer league team.

Sacramento will play in the Las Vegas summer league from July 12-18.

As a Kings fan we could use a big man off the bench and I think Wayne should be able to make our summer team and hopefully our roster. Best of luck to him.

At least he has some options. Looks like he may be joining Tyler and Lofton in Europe. Could be worse.

Wouldn't it be great if in a few years the headline is:

"Chism Cuts Nets"

Good luck Wayne. You're talent and style of play will get you on a roster at some point. We are all rooting for you.

If you can't make the Nets' summer league team, you're not cut out for pro basketball. Hang em up Wayne and pursue more realistic opportunities.

Wayne all of us true Big Orange fans are behind you 110%. You set such a great example for all athletes who bleed orange at UT. Your determination and work ethic kept our team together thru some difficult times. You "stepped up to the plate" and NEVER backed down from any opponent, regardless who they were, i.e. Kansas, Kentucky, etc. My wife and I wish you the very best. Please continue setting that good example for younger athletes wherever you play. GBO!!

Nets. Avery Johnson. New Jersey. Whatever.

Keep on truckin' Wayne. You will find a home and the other teams will be wishing they did not have to play against you.

CHITOWNVOL writes:

He just needs a chance to get into a game time situation and he will be fine

BuckettVolz writes:

Hang in there Mr.Chism... looking forward to see you playing in the NBA!!!!!

6MillionDollarPumpkin writes:

Sorry folks, but he is just not a really good player. He was good at UT but he will not make it in the NBA! Hate to tell you but it is the truth.

PopsinCapetownSA writes:

Wayne look at this way, you may have dodged a bullet. Sometimes the best things in life seem like the worst things when they happen; like when I begged my wife not to divorce me 35 yrs ago. Thank God (as usual) she didn't listen to me. Pop$
