Catholic OL Kerbyson offered by Florida

Add another Tennessee rival to the list of schools after Kyler Kerbyson.

The offensive lineman from Catholic High School confirmed via text message that he received a scholarship offer from Florida on Wednesday.

The 6-foot-5, 290-pounder also has offers from UT, Florida State, Alabama, Southern California, Illinois, UCLA, Maryland, Vanderbilt, Memphis, Duke, Arkansas, Kansas and Virginia.

Ohio State, Georgia and Notre Dame have also shown strong interest.

Lord knows we need OLs. Come on Dooley, go after this guy. If anyone out there knows this young man, help work it out!!!! We, for sure, don't want him going to another SEC school.

Don't let him get away. We have to trust the coaches that they will do the right thing, and if he steps foot on campus, make sure his name is on VIP lists.

I think this kid is a must get for Derek Dooley and his staff. He will end up being a 4 or 5 star guy with all the programs that are offering him right now.

As much as I despise Notre Dame, I'd rather see him playing for the Irish than Lippin Kiffin, the Gators or Alabama.

Why not play for Florida, there are lot of positives for the move... Experience of living

Is it me or has the UF nerds stopped commenting on here so much?

I only see one today. When TeaBag was on the team they were on this site with about 10 of them gloating.

Maybe they can see what is going on with no super boy and a coach that wants to retire every time he thinks about his ex QB now playing in Denver.

I am always willing to say it ow it is and sorry UT and UF fans, but Bama is the head of the SEC at this point. UT fans should be able to accept it, but there will be some arrogant Gator fans who think UF will still win the SEC. And if you think it will happen you are kidding yourself.

I only hope to see a UT team that plays hard and smart for 48 minutes of gamt time every game in 2010. If these coaches can coach UT will be back very soon.

Last 2 years we had top 10 recruiting classes. With 2 more UT will not be able to blame any loss on a lack of players.

GO VOLS

The thoughts are correct, but the times are a bit off...if they play hard and smart for 48 minutes every game, what about the other 12 minutes??

Rich,

I am trying to keep an open mind related to Dooley until I see his coaching performance during the regular season. However I must say Dooley's performance thus far during the offseason or recruiting season has me worried. I do feel we are behind in recruiting this year. I know it is early, but here is yet another example of great kid, who should at least have UT high on his list, and he hasn't even received a scholarship offer. Any thoughts as to why Dooley has provided a scholarhsip offer? I am not sure what to think at this point. He should have an offer from his State University.

This kid is going to TENNESSEE. Duke's chances are better than Florida, Alabama, or USC. Would you care to wager me, you miserable mangina?

Funny you mentioned that, I watched the replay on SEC Digital Network this morning. Always thought Cody was overrated, and after watching the replay, he never would've gotten that last block if it weren't for Dareus. I could swear he was the one who blew up Corey Sullins allowing ol' man-boobs to get through. Dareus is a freak, can't wait to see him move on to the NFL after next year.

My apologies, Dooley has offered.

The title of this article had me thinking Florida had offered and we hadn't. Of course, Hooker always has to play the Florida card to rile up the UT faithful. My blood was up and I read the article to quickly and missed the UT included in the group of offers.

Kerbyson needs to go toe the school that is the best fit for him. I'm a Vol fan, so I want great players at Tennessee. I think the fans would love to see a hometown guy on the field. But, you have to think about a 17-18 year old kid. The chance to go play at another big time school, see other parts of the country and grow up as a young man...all that can be pretty attractive. Long term, I think players get a lot more loyalty and support when they stay close to home. But, it comes down to what's best for the kid. For reference, see Aaron Douglas.

TLepage writes:

does anyone have any inside info on this kid???? I'm assuming that he is a catholic, being that he attends catholic HS..... That makes me wonder if he is a notre dame fan..... If so, does a ND scholarship offer put ND in the driver seat.... Or since he is local, he could be a longtime UT fan.... Or he cou;d have no affiliation to either school.... Does anyone know anything about any of this????

The KNS is headquartered in Knoxville (obviously) and Kerbyson is probably the best HS prospect in the Knox area this year.... Consequently, he gets a lot of press because he is easily accessible for interviews and draws a lot of local interest (since he is a hometown prospect)....

Isn't it obvious? You have a local prospect who lives 20 minutes away from UT and he's pulling in offers from Florida, Alabama, USC, and Florida State. Why would you not put his name in the paper? And btw, Dooley offered Kerbyson way before any of those previously mentioned schools did, back when his only offers were Duke, Virginia, and Vandy. And a lot of you ripped Dooley, and now you're screaming for him to go get him. So the lesson is chill out, and stop worrying about all the other schools and let this staff do what they're being paid good money to do.

laughingatvols writes:

Keep telling yourself that Urban is not dedicated, that will work for you until about the end of the first quarter on Sept.18th. Tebow is not the only reason that UF has owned the vols lately. There are a lot of playmakers being coached and developed by the best down in Gainesville. Dooley is a major upgrade from Lame Kiffen, but it will take him a few years to dig out of Lame's mess. In the meantime, Urban knows Gator history and Tennessee is a rival and the coach's name is Dooley. Urban will have his team prepared to put the vols away quickly and then let the youngsters get some playing time in an SEC game. Keep talking big and taking UF lightly, that is exactly what UF wants. Bama and and the Gators will keep trading punches to be the SEC champ while the rest of the league sits at home the first weekend in December.

EXACTLY! I remember when CDD first offered and all the whiners were complaining about him not going after the 4 and 5 star players. They whined about why we would offer someone that no other "Big Schools" had offered.

Well maybe CDD has a good eye for talent and maybe he's the one setting the standard out there in the recruiting world.

We gotta give it just a little more time folks, `cause that's what the prospects are doing. They're waiting to see what's gonna happen this fall. My guess is we won't see most of these players make a commitment until November and later. At that time...all these kids with Tennessee listed as one of their choices (and there are many) will know what kind of coach and what kind of team we will have...win or lose.
