Chism gets 15 stitches after elbow near eye during NBA workout

Former Tennessee forward Wayne Chism took an elbow near his right eye during a Thursday morning NBA workout and suffered a laceration that required 15 stitches.

Chism was in New Jersey working out among 36 NBA prospects in a combine type of setting with 23 teams attending, according to his agent, Jared Karnes.

Karnes, of Knoxville's Allegiant Athletic Agency, said Chism suffered the injury during a pick-and-roll and is expected to make a full recovery.

“Wayne is doing well and in good spirits,'' Karnes said. “He wanted to go ahead and continue to play, but they required him to see medical attention.

“We're waiting to see if he'll be able to play in the opener of the Rocky Top League, and Wayne has a workout scheduled with the Dallas Mavericks next Thursday and Friday.''

Chism plays for the News Sentinel, which opens against Ray's ESG at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Bearden High School.

Ouch! Hopefully it was deep and not wide.

Hopefully he showed he was tough by battling.

Also at 1:43 p.m. it says that Chism will be playing for "New Sentinel" in the PRTL. I know this paper gets a lot of flack for careless editing, but COME ON! You can't even spell your own name right? How about taking a few extra minutes to edit these stories before posting them.

That's why they should just stick with 'KNS'. That is very difficult to mess up.

Weezy is 6'9 and if he were 6'11 he would definitely be a late 1st, early 2nd rounder with that height and the skills he displayed for 4 years.

My hope is that he was able to demonstrate some of those skills before having to exit stage left.

According to BOK, it was Pearl's fault.

According to naffy, a white guy did it.

I hope you heal up quickly, Wayne!

You mean that it wasn't Pearl's fault that Wayne wasn't taught to strengthen the tissue around his eye? Everybody knows that is some of the thinnest skin on the whole body. What determined athlete wouldn't work as hard as possible to strengthen that skin? What decent coach wouldn't insist that all his athletes work to protect themselves from such injuries? If he just had tougher tissue around his eyes, he wouldn't have gotten that injury. That is a sure sign of a weak-willed, poorly-conditioned athlete. Sure it is; gimme a break!
