Andrew Power is hoping the fourth time is the charm.
Tennessee’s newest commitment will be playing for his fourth school when he suits up for the Vols in 2011.
Power began his career at South Carolina where he redshirted for a season as a walk on before leaving just prior to the 2009 fall semester.
The 6-foot-5, 255-pounder from Myrtle Beach (S.C.) High School said he left South Carolina too late to enroll in junior college so he played at Georgia Southern for a semester before transferring to his current locale: Arizona Western Community College in Yuma, Ariz.
“It’s relieving but I’ve still got work to do,” Power said of commitment to UT. “But I’m not done by any means.”
Power held scholarship offers from Memphis, Nevada, North Texas and Utah State, but said UT stood out for two reason: its coaches and the opportunity to play immediately.
UT has only one proven tight end on its roster: senior Luke Stocker.
“The (other) thing that stood out was the coaches,” Power said. “They’re great guys. They shot it to me straight. They didn’t beat around the bush. That’s the way I like it. I don’t like sugar coating.”
Power said he’s plenty ready to get back east.
“I like it out west but the people out here are a little different,” he quipped.
By signing with UT, Power will get an opportunity to play his old teammates at South Carolina. He said there’s no revenge factor in playing the Gamecocks.
“I’m looking forward to playing everybody,” he said. “It’s just another game.”
Power is UT’s third commitment of the 2011 class, joining offensive lineman Alan Posey from Clarke Central in Athens, Ga., and linebacker Christian Harris from Etowah High in Woodstock, Ga.

Probably not... How many offers did he have from major football programs??

Well… they really do like some JC boys. Not only a JC kid, but a walk on from SC as well. That will boost the rankings. Enough already with JC players for 2011, 99.99% of the time THEY NEVER PAN OUT IN THE SEC.
Need to focus on highschool JC players are JC for a reason.

Why do some of you guys constantly question everything? If you can't or won't support CDD they stay off the website. I for one am sick of it.

I don't like us getting a former walk-on, but back off of Dooley. Give him a chance. He hasn't even coached one game yet at Tennessee. Let's see how he does come football season. If he does well the recruits will follow.

Dooley,
Make sure to save several scholarhsips for future USC transfers!!! How about a few OL from USC and Mitch Mustain. We would back and ready to compete for the SEC East Title. Go VOLS!!!
budd#207344 writes:
If JUCOs are used correctly they can help fill in the missing pieces until the regular recruiting adds depth. UT and many other SEC schools have used JUCOs successfully in the past. It isn't the player as much as can the coach teach.

You have to like the concept - Tight End Power
FearlessFreep writes:
In case you hadn't noticed, the Vols are in a numbers crunch. in a year where OL depth is going to be iffy at best, CDD needs to find some ways to get additional blockers in the game. One of those is through Tight Ends, or H-Backs. If Power can serve that purpose, then more 'power' to CDD and the Vols.
DC_Vol writes:
Hey Rich,
I feel the same way. This type of recruiting makes me nervous. By the way, do you think we will have former Kiffin coached USC players on the field this fall?
Ironcity writes:
It is the player. You can't coach speed and pure skill. You can be really successful with great players and average coaching (see Fulmer). You will fail with great coaching and lousy players (see Kentucky). If this was a pick up after the season before the JC commitment time then I would be OK. This is the middle of the summer when we have no reason to reach. I hope the kid turns into a star but I am not excited about a kid who quit at South Carolina suddenly being a diamond in the rough for us.

Mitch Mustain bolted to S.C because he couldn't compete at Arkansas. He has impressed noone there either. Why would we want him here?

I agree would like the Senior center from USC though.

Not true. Name a 4* or 5* recruit on the Utah team that undressed Alabama in the sugar bowl. Boise State is also not getting 4* and 5* players. Those ratings are wacked anyways. Get good players that FIT the system and have them play as a TEAM.
scvols writes:
Just because Mustain can not beat out the USC QB's, does not mean he can not beat out ours.
Ironcity writes:
I watched a lot of games of Ark. that year and Mustain was awful. Mcfadden was fantastic and was the reason the team was good. That said, a lot can happen between a Freshman season and a Senior season. Heck, a lot can happen between a Junior season and a Senior season just ask Crompton. Not sure why he would come here though.
Lostvolinhighweeds writes:
Idiot coach or not, after young Mr. Mustain lost the starting job at Arkansas, he packed his trash and left rather than digging in and fighting.
Since arriving at S.C he has been beaten out by two true freshmen and the only reason he has not bailed there is because of having to sit out another year. It of course is all up to CDD, but I would just as soon pass.

I agree with you 100%. It appears we have a wave of whiners instead of supporters. If I was going to be that negative, I wouldn't log in.

A walk on at South Carolina and Dooley gives him a scholarship.. Evidently his mind (Dooley) is still in Louisana. Just hope a lot of us have to eat our worries and concerns about the recruting happenings at UT... But I doubt we will.

Back to the subect of this JUCO recruit (not Mustain). How many D1 scholarships were offered to Shannon Bobbitt? For those of you who only follow football, she was a 5'2" JUCO point gaurd who no one gave any shot at D1. But she improved greatly in her two years there and Pat took her when we needed a PG. Shae lead us to a NC and got herself drafted to the WNBA. Another example, how about Chad Pennington who developed in his first couple of years. He went on to the NFL when no big school saw potential out of high school.
My point is maybe this kid is no longer only a 2 star out of high school. Maybe he's a 5 star out of JUCO. Trust our coach and sop pretending you know sooooo much!

Hate to burst the bubble, but no USC junior or senior wants to plat at UT. Why would they? We will not be in a major bowl for two yrs either. If they transfer, it would be to a Fl., Ala., Tx. etc.

And thanks for being a rival poster who brings civil discussion. Being born and raised a VOL and spending my college days at Clemson, I have a certain dislike for all things UGa, but can't say anthing bad about them. Always had a great time in Athens and enjoyed tailgating with the Dawg fans.

I would like it if all these posters would wait until we have played at least one game and see the Dooley system before selling us down the road. I, for one, am willing to give him at least one season before making too many comments. You all could be right, but I hope you're way off base.

Hey, don't get me wrong, I thoroughly enjoyed watching Utah beat Alabama, won't happen again though, not as long as Saban is coach, and hey, I like Dooley too, just like I liked Dan Hawkins when he was first hired at CU. But the fact is, Dan Hawkins is all but done, if Utah played Bama this year, they would get crushed, and Dooley, well, time will tell, but the 2 and 3 stars that Hawkins has recruited are too small, and too slow, but, at least they are not getting thrown in jail. This ain't intramurals! This is Big Time and more importantly, Big Money Football and it takes 4 and 5 star players to win in this game.
CadmiumOchre (Inactive) writes:
It's early. The kids need to digest the news, talk about or to someone (family, friends or whatever) and come a decision. For those marginally entertaining the idea, it's illegal to kidnap players from USC or anywhere else. The kids have to decide for themselves. Uh-huh

Hey Big Orange!.... Whether we get 2 stars or 5 stars or JC transfers..... it's gotta be won on the field. So what ever CDD's recipe is....I just trust he'll put together a winner. No reason to complain until the time is here to complain.

Since the NCAA has announced USC recruits can transfer without sitting out a year, maybe UT should explore that option and contact some of their linemen.

Power is part of next year's signing class, so he can't help with this year's OL depth.
CadmiumOchre (Inactive) writes:
You are probably right - BUT - all the teams you mentioned are LOADED. Breaking into the fist string will be tough. AND there's the risk of destabilizing the morale of the team by replacing established starters with transfers.
More than likely, most would go to programs more on par with Va Tech, NC, Clemson, or Nebraska.
I can see the UT being a choice with 2nd or 3rd stringers who figure they have a better chance of starting on a shorthanded team like the Vols.
Now, let's see what unfolds.

After wading through some of the posts concerning this JC TE prospect, I have to tell you your comments were the only really intelligent ones I read.
We know on every post we'll have the naffys, nosirrees, listentothe music.........usual idiotic trolls etc, but when so many so-called Vol fans panic, go ballistic over such news, they are leaning more and more to becoming trolls themselves.
Unless someone says a kid is a "6"star or whatever,
is someone Florida, Notre Dame, or Alabama etc wanted,
they have 0 potential.
Good to know a few Tennessee people won't turn tail and run over the hill.

Me too but it depends on which version. The one that was an ultra recruiter and actually coached players? Then YES I miss him. The one that became lax and all but hands off coaching to the point he couldn't recruit on a level with the new kids on the block (Saban and Myer)? Then NO, i don't miss him.
