More prospects visiting Vols

Tennessee's visit list continues to grow.

The Vols are entertaining Cameron Clear from Memphis Central High School and offensive lineman Ethan Hutson from Destrehan (La.) High in addition to the five prospects previously reported by the News Sentinel.

Clear is a 6-foot-6, 265-pound tight end who is quickly becoming one of the top prospects in the state, with scholarship offers from Arkansas, Ole Miss, Mississippi State and Louisville. Hutson, a 6-4, 295-pounder, is considering scholarship offers from Arizona, Colorado, Mississippi and Mississippi State.

Aaron Lynch is also scheduled to visit UT's campus this evening. The 6-6, 245-pound defensive end Island Coast High in Cape Coral, Fla., is considering scholarship offers from several schools, including Miami, Florida State, Alabama and Ohio State.

The Vols also hosted the following prospects this weekend: DeAnthony Arnett, a 6-foot, 170-pound receiver from Saginaw (Mich.) High, Justin Coleman, a 5-11, 175-pound defensive back from Brunswick (Ga.) High, Zach Debell, a 6-7, 265 offensive lineman from Tarpon Springs (Fla.) High and D.J. Humphries, a 6-6, 265-pound rising junior offensive lineman from Mallard Creek High in Charlotte, N.C.

Worley is scheduled to leave campus on Monday evening.

I wish we could sign the to 6-10 OL in this class! maybe more! Sometimes it seems that the only guys who want to come to Knoxville these days are WRs! What are they going to do when the OLine can't keep Bray off his butt(I can't belive you can't say azz)! By the way I think Bray will be outstanding by year 3 and 4.

That's beyond a amusing. A&M was non-factor in the Big 12, and the Big 12 has been considerably weaker than the SEC (see Oklahoma 2008- they averaged something like 50 pts a game during the season and only scored 14 against Florida).

So tell me again how they would be dominant in a much tougher conference with more speed and better athletes?

FAIL

Tight ends make very athletic offensive linemen when they grow up.

You're right about some kids, but not all of them. Aggies have a HUGE following in Texas, with a tremendous number of alumni. They have often played second fiddle to Texas because Texas is the glamor program in the SAME conference. But A&M's attractiveness will be increased to top recruits when they see the Aggies would play in the SEC. And remember, Austin campus has become as left radical as Berkely, and many kids from Texas would just as soon stay away from that. I agree with the poster who said Aggies could be a powerhouse with a seat at the SEC table and all that talent to recruit in Texas.

What we're seeing is that Dooley and staff are quietly going about their business, getting recruits to come to campus for a nice visit when things are quiet (i.e. not on game day), coaches have time to meet and talk, families can meet with coaches and tour the facilities and campus. Based on the coaches DD assembled, I think both players and parents will be impressed.

Double D knows he has a great product to sell if he can get 'em to campus. Keep up the good work!

So true. I live in Spring, TX. My previous job had me going to College Station almost every week and there is absolutely nothing there.

Wait... they have a Wal-Mart, a Dairy Queen and.... thats all I can remember. Texas A&M would be a bad choice to go to school. It is too far to drive to Houston more than once a month for students.

Sorry to those for A&M joining the SEC but they are in my book about the same level as UK. It really does not make the SEC any better.

cjones I don't think anyone is complaining that he is not out recruiting, what we complain about or to put it in a better term is voice our concern about is how few players have committed and the ones that have, fall in the diamond in the rough category. We all want the same thing which is to see DD and UT succeed. Some of us don't believe that he can do it with average recruits. Some of us would like to see bigger splashes, some of us would like to see a bunch of 4 and 5 star recruits either commit or talk of committing. Say what you will about the previous staff, there was a lot of energy during the recruiting season. There was no doubt they were going to recruit some good players. They were always competing with UF, UA and UGA. Dooley might have the players with the highest character in the nation (I think we will have our share of idiots like everyone else), but if they get blown up at the line of scrimmage, its going to be a long year next year and every year after that.

Another thing, our coaches have done nothing to date to suggest they are great coaches and can as some would say "coach them up". This is going to be a tough year and to think all these kids waiting for the product will be impressed with what they see and then commit, I would doubt that. I would feel better if we had about 10 players who were excited to be a Vol right now. It could start with Worley then maybe a commitment from a player committed to another team. I want to see some momentum that gives me the feeling things are going right.

Last but not least, lets not lock out anymore kids at the gate due to a massive screw up whether it be an ex player or a new potential recruit. Let me see that the organization as a whole is first class.

I agree. Slive hardly seems strategic if he is looking at A&M and Missouri. Maybe he is stacking potentially respectable, but very beatable teams in the conference to boost the middle of the conference. That gives Arkansas, Ole Miss, Kentucky, and South Carolina someone decent they can beat. (Spare me the Mizzou/Ark Cotton Bowl - Arkansas is better now and that was Missouri's best team ever).

If we are not going after Texas, Oklahoma, and Va Tech, maybe we should sit this one out. If we are not going to be a SuperConference dominating most of the major Southern Recruiting from Florida/Georgia westward to Texas, then why grow? TV Markets aside, everyone still wants to watch the best. As long as we have the best talent, we can still win the titles.

with all the TEs he's getting, we at least know that the ones that don't work out at TE will make VERY athletic OTs and OGs.

everyone would love 28 5* recruits by now that just ain't happening. the 4* and 5* will come it's just going to take a lil while, our 2 commits are a 3* and the other a 3* or 4* . They probably won't go any higher (not because they suck they're already committed , and may not camp any where else ) If they show out their senior year they could move up.I drank the kool-aid last year too loved the recruiting excitement also, we're just doing it different now. The end result will be better good recruits and no sanctions. On another note i just saw texas ande texas a&m are staying in big 12.

A&m is not leaving the Big 12(10)..In defense of A&M they didn't have a great record last year but their QB Jerod Johnson could start for any SEC team; Bama and Fla included; He was 6th nationally in total offense;had 8 300 yard passing games and one game with 3 rushing and 3 passing TD's!!! they also have a DE Miller who had an unbelievable 17 sacks and more TFL's than I can count

I tend to agree with Iron on this...FLA:BAMA and LSU are stacking and racking em..Thats what a NC and SEC Championships will do for a programs recruiting. For sure Kiffin had a better recruiting staff..Understandably Dooley is a little behind but at least he got some good players to visit the campus..To be honest it reminds me of Majors recruiting style..4 big time recruits and the rest; solid homegrown work horses who bled orange and worked their butts off.

I agree with your assessment. I would also add that a good coach will recruit the type of player that fits his system. The 5 star OL might not be the kind of OL Dooley wants for his particular system. Some 5 stars would probably fit, but some won't. This is a marathon, not a sprint. I still am not sure what type of blocking schemes Dooley is planning on utilizing, but if it's zone, then most 5 star O-lineman aren't what he wants. Most 5 star linemen get their rating based mainly on their size out of high school rather than athleticism. If it's a zone blocking scheme, you want quick, agile, athletic linemen who may not be quite as fat as the 5-star guys.

Just a thought...How many West Coast teams are in the Big Ten?...You might mean Colorado, who joined the PAC-10...You know, the Conference with all the West Coast teams in it...As far as NFL breeding grounds go,it is really a coin flip with any big Conference school to find a path to the next level.......

• ACC: Miami outstrips Florida State, 63-56, and doubles up their first-round picks 26-13. They in turn outstrip everybody else: the next closest team in first-rounders is BC with seven.

• Big 12: Oklahoma leads the conference with 42 overall picks; Nebraska follows with 41, but Texas leads the conference by a gulfy margin in first-round picks with 13.

• Big East: 29 from Louisville, 26 from Pitt, and nobody with more than three first-rounders (Pitt and Syracuse).

• Big Ten: Like everything else around here, it's Ohio State and the losers. Sixty-nine Buckeyes have gone to the pros, with 16 of them first-rounders. Wisconsin and Michigan have both had 44 draft picks; the next closest in first-rounders is Penn State with nine.

• Pac-10: It's USC and the other guys. 61 Trojans, 15 in the first round. Next best: Cal, with 35.

• SEC: It's a tandem at the top -- Georgia has 55 and Tennessee and 54. The two teams also lead in first-round picks with 11 and 10 respectively. The Pac-10 and SEC are the only conferences in which all schools have sent sent double-digit numbers to the League. Of these, only Mississippi State has no first-rounders this decade.

I think these numbers show how equal the big-time programs are in sending kids to the next level..

No, I do not believe that he is too small. He is a high school DB who most likely has had limited weight room work. DB's are usually the smallest every down players on the field. You see DBs in college listed as small as 5'9''. Blanking on the Florida kid who signed with the g@ytors whose dad played RB for the Vols, he is listed at 5'9'' and even Kiffie the recruiting god wanted him.

Quickness, agility, and toughness are traits that make a great DB. If he is too tall, the quickness and agility might suffer.

Not meaning to knock on Majors, but he coached 15 years and only finished top 25 five times and never won a NT. That was also before we played Florida every year and before they were so dominate. To win Championships, which is what UT fans expect, you have to get the top recruits, not just 4. UT needs 4 and 5 star players with some 3 sprinkled in. Not 2 and 3 star with some 4 and 5 sprinkled in. Thats just the way it is if you want to win Championships nowadays.

Justin is a great young man. He started as a 10th grader and did a great job from the first snap. I get to see half of his games each year, and he can throw all the passes - great touch on the ball and leads receivers well. He is in a great High School program with a very good Offensive Coordinator. He is a young man of character and maturity. He is someone that former coach (see 1 year stint)at UT would never have been able to attract.
Lets keep the I 40 tunnel open so the Worley's can have an easier communte to Knoxville.

Gatorstomper, it's sad, but in Tejas the tu shorthorns are number 1 in the hearts of most kids. In most cases, if the horns want them, they get them. The SEC is no big deal here in TX. A lot of Texans are loyal Aggies, but I don't think being in the SEC will help them with recruiting. Besides, I think the horns would have to agree to continue the A&M rivalry every year or a move ain't happening, at least that's my opinion. Mack Brown gets little out of so much. It's easy for tu to recruit, but they don't do a good job of coaching their recruits. Bottom line, I would like to see the Aggies stay in the Big 12 and our Vols recruit more effectively in Texas.
