Columnist: UT worst among the Sweet 16

Thanks, Mike DeCourcy. You just wrote Bruce Pearl's pre-game speech.

Say, Mike, how did this prediction work out? 5. Which team currently in the Top 25 looks most likely to lose in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament?

DeCourcy: Since Tennessee got through the initial emotion of performing without its suspended players and three of them returned to the team, it has been more or less a .500 club. In their past 10 games, the Vols have been exactly that: five wins, five losses.

I hope OSU and everybody else THINKS the Buckeyes have this wide-open path to the Final Four! As Silence said, Courcy--and a couple of other commentators linked to through his article--wrote CBP's pre-game speech for him. The Vols will harry Turner into at least a half-dozen turnovers, won't let Diebler touch the ball, and will get a couple of OSU's inside players in foul trouble. Then OSU's thin bench will betray them late. That's my story, and I'm sticking to it(;-P)! GBO!!! TCB!!!

I agree with you john. You hit the three reasons I think we can beat OSU:

1) We are going to send fresh bodies at Turner all night. Prince, Tatum and somebody else to spell them every now and then.
2) We defend the 3 point shooting teams pretty well and I don't think Diebler will be seeing wide open shots all game long.
3) UT is a much deeper team than OSU and that should be to our advantage.

Of course, all that is predicated on the right UT team showing up and not the one that goes brain dead at times.

As far as DeCourcy goes, he's normally pretty good but it appears he missed the boat on this one. I just refuse to make any firm predictions with this team because they are very erratic. They can beat any team remaining or lose to any team remaining. It all depends on their mindset that night. I think I'm just going to enjoy the ride for as long as it will go.

The other of course against a hot Kentucky team in the SEC Tournament Semi-final. GBO and beat Ohio State!

I don't drink Kool-Aid. Talent wise we are about 8 or 9 in line. Coaching about 4-5. The down side is I think OSU is up talent wise +10 points and coaching is a push. That means that we could win or get our butt's handed to us. This team can make the Final 4 (not will it but make it)with some outstanding play and coaching or could be smelling like Rat Cheese by 10:00 pm Friday night in my ol home town of St. Louie.

The article was written back on Feb 24. Right after we lost to Florida and doesn't include the 7 of 8 games we've won since. Back on Feb 24, having lost to Florida, staring Kentucky in the eye, with a trip to Miss St looming, a lot of us had reservations about what the NCAA tourney would hold for the Vols.

MSU is ranked so low because Lucas, their outstanding PG, suffered an achilles tendon injury in their game Sunday. Don't know if it is torn or not, but some commentators are saying that he is at best doubtful for their remaining games. As for picking the Vols last, what else is new? If we make it all the way to the Final Four, the media line will be that we had the easiest route thanks to the stumbles by Georgetown and Kansas. Even if we WIN the darned thing, they will point to the "weak" field and no doubt harp on how poorly our opponent played. If that happens, we will have the perfect reply: point to the trophy and give them the middle-finger salute! GBO!!! TCB!!!

The Courcy article was posted at 9:53PM Sunday night after all the weekend's games were completed. It may be that his info on the Vols was that far out of date; if so, we shouldn't be surprised that he rated us so low, but we shouldn't put any credence in his rating, either. I think he is just another smug Yankee who doesn't think any SEC team not named "Kentucky" can really play ball, the kind who was no doubt stunned by Florida's back-to-back championships a few years ago and still can't really believe they happened!

There hasn't been a serious article, certainly not an informative one, about CFB from TSN in almost two years. The majoriety are from the blogging ranks and none can write a coherent paragraph. Most sound like they learned their trade writing reviews of Rock CD's for the high school newspaper, and bring the same verbal gibberish to football and basketball. Naturally, KNS sports puppies turn to such tripe for inspiration and sustenance.

Your right that the article about the rankings of the final 16 was posted Sunday. But the article that Mr. Silence linked to regarding DeCourcy saying Vols are the worst top 25 team was written in February.

Oh, and wanted to say good prediction on using Josh Bone against Ohio, JohnLG.

Vols have to prove the know-it-alls wrong. Some of them never played the game. A few such as Jay Bilas did, however he is getting more smug and 'know-it-all' every day.
Now, as to our game with Ohio State. Has anyone heard who will be calling the game? Please don't say Brad Nesser and Jimmy Dykes, and surely not Vitale. Some of these guys rattle on and while we can see a game is in progress, they are often talking about something in a bygone era.
Anyway, it's not surprising the Vols aren't getting a lot of respect. The experts aren't comfortable with us being there, so their safe approach is to write us off and they hope they can then say " I told you so."

IMO, we really need to get off to a good start.
A 17-0 start is unreasonable but for sure, we can't come in tight, make a flurry of turnovers, let Turner and his cohorts have their way, and have to play catchup for most of the game.

Vols have proven they have can be hot as evidenced by some of the best performances in the biggest games they've played.

No Way. This is our best chance EVER to reach the Final Four. That is the goal. I want to watch the vols on the first saturday in April. If we lose, it will rank equally with 07 08 as the best. But let's make sure that doesn't happen. Any UT alumni, former TN residents or any Vol fan within 300 miles of St. Lous needs to turn out this weekend. MAKE YOUR PRESENCE KNOWN!!!

I would even settle for being called the worst NCAA champ in history(;-P)! Some people still put down our 1998 football champions as "lucky" because of the late pass-interference call against Syracuse, Florida's missed FG, Stoerner's fumble, and FSU's third-string QB. Well, I would as soon be lucky as good and most champs are a little bit of both.

Decourcy's original article (about us being 5 & 5) was from 2/24 I think and he was just stating his opinion - but he does rank us at the very bottom of the remaining 16 teams so he seems to not think very highly of us - but his 5-5 comment was accurate I think at the time.

The espn article about TN having no business being in the sweet 16 I think was actually being pretty positive about our team (and especially our coach's) reaction to the 1/1/10 incident. No big deal to me - we're playing with the house's money so let's double down and let it roll! GBO!
