Georgia assistant seems to give Gators choke sign

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The Florida-Georgia rivalry may have a new twist, this one courtesy of Georgia assistant coach Todd Grantham.

A television snapshot from Sun Sports in Florida shows Grantham, the Bulldogs’ defensive coordinator, seemingly giving the choke sign as Florida’s Chas Henry lined up for the winning field goal Saturday in Jacksonville.

Henry drilled the 37-yarder, ending Florida’s three-game losing streak and giving the Gators their 18th win in the past 21 years against Georgia.

Florida coach Urban Meyer and quarterback John Brantley said they heard about it, but neither saw it from across the field.

Georgia coach Mark Richt does not normally speak to the media after Monday’s practice, and the school did not respond to requests for comment from either Richt or Grantham.

Agreed. I would hate to see media outlets actually do some journalism for once on important news. That would be a breath of fresh air in my opinion. Tell me about how Richt is handling the heat, Meyer feels about his offense, or something of importance, not that a coach gave a kicker the choke signal. At least Richt didn't pat his qb on the butt & clap after the pick in OT. I liked Fulmer but damn that got old after a while. OH & EVERYONE GO VOTE TODAY SO YOU CAN HELP DECIDE OUR FUTURE!!!

Why don't you educate us all on how it feels to have no life.

Depends. Did you use a coupon or gift card and if so did you tip 20% on the discounted bill?

sit. stay. roll over. play dead.

good dog.

mark richt in 10 years has not beaten florida and tennessee in the same season.

next time georgia beats tennessee, i am heading to las vegas and placing my entire financial future on the gators to beat the dogs. i will be able to retire immediately after the game.

I haven't heard of any Gator who was upset by it. I saw the picture the next day and my first thought was "Ha ha sucker, beat you again."

Funny how easy it is to brush off minor stuff like this when you're holding 18 wins in 21 years.

Not a train wreck yet but there's an ugly trend that's making many Dawg fans nervous.

all i have to say is gnm, you should be writing for SNL. classic stuff.
wish there could be more humor like this with each story instead of "you vs us."
keep it coming.

What's the FLA kicker doing looking to the GA sideline anyway? I say good for the GA coach for being passionate and into the game. And to those of you that mentioned how petty and silly our media has become - I agree 100%.

CrankE writes:

He was just doing what Bulldogs always do against Florida.

Why is so much made of The World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party? You'd think Georgia was on par with Florida or something. Tennessee has beaten Florida twice as often in the past 20 years, yet gets less respect.

If UGA were serious about winning championships, then they'd lay down the law to their coach, "Beat Florida. Period." And to say it can't be done ignores how close Georgia has been and how many times they've been that close.

(Uh, same thing goes for my beloved Tennessee by the way. It CAN be done.)
