Mississippi State WR Chad Bumphis out for bowl game

STARKVILLE, Miss. — Mississippi State’s leading receiver Chad Bumphis will miss the Bulldogs’ bowl game after breaking his collarbone during the team’s 31-23 victory over Mississippi on Saturday.

Bumphis, a 5-foot-10, 195-pound sophomore, has 44 catches for 634 yards and five touchdowns this season. He left Saturday’s game after the injury, but the extent of the damage wasn’t found until an examination on Monday afternoon, according to MSU spokesman Joe Galbraith.

No. 22 Mississippi State is bowl-eligible for the first time since the 2007 season and only the second time this decade.

Bumphis is expected to be healthy for spring practice.
