My, how the mighty have fallen.

I hope it's even worse for the Buffalo game.

richvol writes:

I knew this day was coming...with the economy UT has priced itself into this position. Add the poor performance and you get 20.00 tickets.

stevefrommemphis writes:

Well, UT charged me $40 apiece for 4 which I gave away.

Since everything else going on is reminiscent of the 1970s, whatever tickets don't sell should be given away to high school kids at the gate. They used to have "Band Day" and I think also let high school teams in at a reduced price. Make some money on the concessions. For this game, fill the place up with anybody willing to spend 3.5 hours at Neyland Stadium.

don't look now, but free student tix are next...

Jediphysics writes:

That's what happens when you charge $60 to sit upper deck at Oregon, with a 7PM kickoff... people are sick of the prices and sick of the phooey going on in the program. It's about time they got off their hands and figured it out. Seriously, though Dooley I think can turn things around, the athletics department and pricing needs a severe overhaul.

We have to have a sale on football tickets to raise the money to pay North Carolina to not play us. Are you implying that we don't have a good athletic director?

Hate to say it but there is only one Saban. 4 mil looks like a pretty good deal now. He's not the Bear but what's a Bammer gonna do on a Saturday. At least we have the Smokies...etc.

civilianvol_formerly_marinevol writes:

Mike Hamilton may not be the smartest athletic director, and he may not be as competent as other athletic directors, and he may not care anything about Tennessee traditions, and he may not know anything about negotiating contracts, and he may embarrass the fans by scheduling games with BCS opponents and then paying them tons of money to not play us so we can schedule games with teams like Buffalo (when we can't sell tickets for a game with UAB), but he's... well..., I mean hell, he's got to have some redeeming characteristics or we wouldn't keep him as our athletic director, would we?

To UofTFan. You are correct sir. The person you responded was speaking in frustration and not out of knowledge. Mal Moore has been hanging on my the smallest thread until he hired Saban. Bama fans wanted him gone and he finally got it right after several foolish mistakes. Man oh man, all of the bama fans that were silent over the past ten years are beating their chest and reminding me of why I hate bama. You need to put that pipe down every now and then and let it cool off.

I am putting forth my name for the university presidents job. I think I could do as good a job as any of the ones they have had lately. I would start a search for an athletic director immediately and would hire a crew of people to teach the young men that sign on to play football how to conduct themselves or to pack up and go play for a jr. college. I would cut ticket prices or expand the seats so my butt could fit in one and not feel as if I am suffocating. Any student wearing another schools shirt at a game would be forced to withdraw from school. Any coach that mouthed off like Kiffin would be immediately fired on the spot. I would pay the assistant coaches a pile of money so we could get some of the best and brightest and most honest assistants in the country. So call the board of directors and tell them I can move just about any time. I also would kick Pearl's backside for doing a great job and then embarrassing the university and bring more shame on it and possibly getting a good team on probation. The man was building a dynasty and now has endangered everything he has worked for and has smeared his own good name as well as the university and state.

26 comments...16 negative..7 positive..3 were kind of neutral statements. Want to know what the problem is with the program? Negativity. Yeah Hamilton invited to kid to Pearls house and made him lie too. Most of us wanted Fulmer gone, got behind the Kiffin swagger also. Moore got it right in Bama with his fourth coach. CDD is Hamilton's 3rd. I don't give a rat's behind about Hamilton, but I'm not consumed with him or looking for a scapegoat. I am FOR the Vols athletic programs and will let the other sort itself out. Anybody heard that we have a game this Saturday with the Gators? Hittin the sack ya'll so I can't argue tonight. Seems to me then, Bama must have had a lot of poor ADs through the years. Look how long they lagged well behind us in attendance despite many successful seasons.

Look in the mirror, bub. All you want for Christmas is to be Bama. Never were, never will be.

I expect people to be happy and enjoy this rare opportunity. Surely those who were complaining about high ticket prices aren't complaining about prices being too low now? If they are, then they can give a $20 donation so they don't feel so embarrassed.

And the most important thing the board will want to know is where will you get the money for all this

Dont be stupid. Lived in ala for 12 years. Had chance to move to Tenn ( pay cut lesser position) took it. Grestest move of my life. UT 7&6 better then ala 12-0 every year...

Am I the only one happy, who is on a budget and want to take my kids. Rock on. This is great. Yes, stinks that UT is not a Top 25 program and I can't wait for CDD to take us back to the 90s, but I am going to make the most of it while I can and we'll get to enjoy what could be a beautiful day late September day, a victory, and a great family event. I'm gonna get there early (very early for the 12:21 kick-off), have my 9-year old pet Smokey, and enjoy every moment.

I agree...ticket prices are way too high. Then again, if we are going to keep with the Joneses, we gotta pay top dollar for coaches & facilities. But wait, didn't the SEC just sign a sweetheart deal with ESPN? What gives? Somethings gotta give...damn I'm confused.

This is simple economics. You cant charge for Porsche when you're selling a Corolla. Unfortunately, that is the shape our program is in. I'm not casting blame to any one person because there is plenty to go around. From the fans, former coach(Kiffin), to the AD. This has nothing to do with the economy. It's all about the product on the field. I hope Dooley can bring championships and stability back really quick. This year is the least excited I've been about football in my lifetime.

I'll burn any extras I end up with on the street in front of Neyland Stadium before I sell mine to a Bama fan for $500 apiece. I don't need the money that bad. You people driving up from Tuscaloosa without tickets may find out that we Vol fans learned our lesson in 2008.

GOPROKID (Inactive) writes:

Don't pay over $10.00 for a Fla vs Tn ticket.
After the 1st quarter.. when the Gators are up by 21... there will be tickets all over the ground outside the stadium. Just look through the pile and get a pair on the 50yd line.
ENJOY THE GAME. BIG ORANGE? WHAT'S SO BIG ABOUT YOUR FOOTBALL PROGRAM?

I brought three tickets today at the reduced price. I splurged so I could take a friend who have never seen a game at Neyland. I haven't been able to afford tickets in a long time due to becoming disabled and having a low income. Normally each football season I buy 3 new shirts for us and we watch the games on TV. This promotion allows me to add a live game to our fall and I am extremely thankful.

I have read your inane posts to too many stories ad nauseum, and I refrained from responding to your foolishness until now. I am a UT grad from the 80's and have season tickets since the 90's so I have seen Fulmer's HC career in its entirety. The only point on which I agree with you is in my dislike for Hamilton. I agree that Fulmer took UT football to the pinacle, but he also let it slide to mediocrity in his final years. What I can't stand for is your constant criticism of General Neyland. If you were a true UT fan, you would give General Neyland proper respect for his accomplishments, not the least of which was developing UT football into a national program, winning national championships, and instilling the traditions that have made UT football what it is. Traditions that your hero, Phil Fulmer, held dear. But you let your bitterness cause you to lose sight of what UT football is, and to see only your worship of Fulmer as your reason to exist. Not only do you not show any support for UT, you don't even show the respect to the man who made UT football what it is, as well as defending our country as a soldier, when his country needed him. You are not a fan of UT football, and you are a pitiful excuse for an American as well.
