MURFREESBORO — Football Coach Derek Dooley called his Tennessee team a "really bad football team" after one scrimmage this spring.

The Vols still aren't where he wants them, but he said on Thursday that they have improved.

"We're a better football team," Dooley said. "That's really the goal of spring. Did we get better during the spring and does every individual improve their level of play?

"I think we accomplished that."

Dooley was the guest speaker at Middle Tennessee Christian School's annual spring banquet held in the school's gymnasium. Dooley signed autographs for more than an hour prior to the banquet, which acts as a fundraiser for the private school. School officials said the banquet was a sellout.

I certainly hope the Preds' outlook is good tonight, compared to the debacle on Wednesday.

Sports make me sad at times....

GO VOLS

Given that apparently some had other opportunities and all of them stayed, UT's assistant coahes showed approval of what CDD is doing. These assistants are, for the most part, experienced with solid resumes.

And every kid who verbally committed to UT, some very early, honored his commitment.

Happy Easter.

I well I hope our game with Montana is sold out. It probably won't be because who really wants to see Montana play?

Happy Easter to all!

Isnt there a Predators website you can talk about it with the other 50 Pred fans somewhere?
Just messin with you. Hope you get your wish, and I hope Dooley has the Vols prepared come September to compete. I guess this assessment is better than the last one, but Dooley sure isnt going to get anyone's hopes up.

Hah!
Dooley noted.
I mainly stay on Vol topics, but this is the playoff season. One can only hope it remains as such, for the next few weeks.

I liked the big name non conference schedule but let's face it. Even if you win you get beat up and then enter SEC play crippled, tired and slow. If you win the East and play for the championship, then there is a great bowl waiting. But if you lose to Texas, or USC then your bowl is less later on. So let's see some high scoring warmups to FL. Go Vols!!!!

I want to see Montana play and plan to be there. Of course I am much more interested in the team they will be playing on the other side of the field. Have you heard of them the TENNESSEE VOLUNTEERS!

Dave, Great observation. The Conference schedule is always tough.Scheduling some lighter weights ahead of that works for me.The kids have a good time. The reserves get on the field for some real game experience also.It makes sense to me.

I'm just glad we have an article about ut football instead of one about people who aren't here and didn't want to be here. I'm also glad we have a head coach who is more concerned with his own team and less concerned about players/coaches at other universities. GBO!

We best not take Montana lightly. They have been a strong program out here in the west for some time now, and are moving up in divisions. They won't be a UT Martin patsy. We just don't need an Wyoming type surprise on opening day...

They lost their coach the year before and didnt make the playoffs last year. I think went 7-5 so they arent the Montana they used to be, but I'm sure will be ready to play. I personally would like to see UT play middle of the road BCS conf opponent like Cinci or N Carolina than Montana and Buffalo but hopefully Dooley/Hamilton wont be trying to get out of future contracts with teams I've seen on the future schedules after this year and we can see some Nationally televised interesting games. PPV stinks, but at least we can go to the game cheaper than PPV.

Were still a young team and this will be a growing year. We still have depth issues on the defensive line and our offensive line has got to do a better job of run blocking this year. Our inexperience, youth and lack of depth at certain positions will show up at times this year but we should still be better than last year. The biggest problem is we play in the toughest conference in the country, so we have little room for error. Let's just hope other teams on our schedule have an off year or at least an off game the day we play them.

If you could have asked Fulmer in his last year as coach to say a little bit about his players, he'd say "I think I know their names". No offense to Phil, he's a great Tennessean, but he had lost his team. Not only does Dooley know their names, but what their strengths and weaknesses' are as individuals. He knows what makes 'em tick. There's a huge difference. Think all you want about MH, but he knocked it out of the park with Dooley. Time will tell, but Im loving what Im hearing.

We're better no doubt. I'm glad we have an easier schedule...we need it. We'll surprize some people this year. Next year look out! So screw all the Bamas, Gators, Auburns of the world. We are the Mighty Vols and win or loose us loyal fans will be out there rockin like there is no tomorrow!

Rocky Top forever!

Im from TN and now live in Pittsburgh. I watched the Penguins win both a Superbowl and Stanley Cup in the same year. I want the predators to win a cup as well as the Titans to win a Superbowl, It can be done I saw it happen here. Go Titans and Preds

Somewhat off topic but interesting. When Rivals was asked which football programs in the last 20 years were the "dirtiest," Alabama was cited with the most major violations. Check it out at:
