Tennessee certainly hopes its football schedule is easier next season.
The wait for the Vols and the rest of the SEC to find out will continue at least through the weekend, however.
Following the recent additions of Texas A&M and Missouri to the SEC, the league has yet to release its adjusted 14-team schedule for 2012. Two SEC athletic directors said publicly last week that the release would come before Christmas, but the SEC posted a statement on its official Twitter account Thursday updating the situation's status.
"Working through the final stages of the 2012 football schedule," the statement read. "We'll release it once it's complete, but not before Christmas."

Easy, can the East-West thing, every team declares 3 rivalries, then splits the rest into two groups of 5, on even that they play in even years, the other odd that they play in odd years. Done.

I remember last year when the Sissy/Chicken-Vols dropped the North Carolina game because it was a difficult opponent and scheduled mighty Buffalo instead to lighten up the schedule.
Does anyone know if the Vols are planning on dropping any games this season to lighten the load, perhaps the North Carolina State game?

Georgia State, Akron, and Troy??? I know the Vols are rebuilding and dont want a gauntlet to go through, but scheduling all of these powder puffs in one season without any real non-conference opponents at home will not help fill seats at Neyland in 2012.

Is this the number of times you'll be here whining about the Vols? 2011 has to be the year for trolls who have been so consumed with Tennessee that they just cannot make it through a day without rambling in a similar fashion as yours.
A new years resolution for GVX should be to clean up this site and show trolls like you directions to a site for the team you do like.

A few thoughts:
1) Dropping LSU and Arkansas and picking up MSU and Mizzou is huge. This drops too sure losses and replaces them with games we have a chance to win.
2) For those lamenting the non conference schedule, this is the last year of that. We are scheduled to start a run next year finishing our home/away with Oregon, then Oklahoma for 2 years, then Nebraksa for 2 years. Also, NC State is no gimme. The lost to some bad teams, and blew out some good teams. It depends on who shows up.
3) I think next year shapes up to 4 sure wins (Georgia St, Troy, Akron, Kentucky), 2 sure losses (Bama, Georgia), 1 likely loss (South Carolina), and 5 toss ups (Vandy, Florida, Mizzou, MSU, NC State). I realize that we lost to Kentucky last year, but they should be pretty bad again next year, and I hope we improve. Also, it's a home game.

After florida's year with 5*'s backing up 6*'s you still troll here? Funny. Did you mean Foley, because after the Muschump hire, yall should be starting to wonder. Dooley has two years worth of talent to make up, Muskrat came in with a loaded team, and almost matched Dooley's record. I think we both know who should be worried more. That would be the lizard faithful, TROLL.
The 14 team, and maybe more in the future, conference is going to destroy some traditional games and rivalries. There's no way around it.

So according to Chris Low, the previously scheduled game with Arkansas will instead be changed to Miss State.... I can live with that.

Perhaps this will be the year UT stops listing the SECCG on THEIR schedule. Rather forward thinking when you only have 18 wins the last 3 yrs.

The release of the schedule is one of my favorite articles of the year. Everyone of you concede the Alabama game and pick out your other losses, how pathetic.
orangeman1 writes:
No doubt the addition of A&M and Missouri will take away traditional SEC games that we love. I look forward to playing Auburn and who knows how long that will be. I wonder if they plan on ditching the 2 consecutive years of playing the same West opponent and go to playing a new West team each year. That would make more sense. I also think UT's out of conference schedule the next few years is going to make things tough considering we now have to play A&M and Missouri. It sounds like they are still only planning on having 8 conference games though and as long as we have Vandy and Ky and 3 OOC pansies then UT should be fine.
orangeman1 writes:
Given the teams you listed, and with the talent UT has coming back having another years experience, I would break it down a little different.
UT should expect to beat Georgia st, Troy, Akron, Ky, Vandy, and NC State. NC state was bad last year. They got beat by Wake and an 8 loss Boston College. They also got blown out by Cinci and Fsu. The only decent win they had was Virginia and they ACC was down this year. UT wouldve won 8 or 9 games with their schedule. SO, thats 6 "should" wins in my mind. Bama is the only "sure" loss and Florida, Georgia, SC, MSU, and Missouri are toss ups. If UT can just win 2 of those 5 toss ups they should win 8 games. I definitely want more than 8 wins next year, but wouldnt be too disappointed if they ended up with only 8 as long as UT plays good and hard in every game.
stevefrommemphis writes:
They need to have a NINE game conference schedule, but they probably won't. All SEC season ticket holders will have to purchase tickets for at least three non-conference cupcake games and some schools will have four. Pathetic.

Excellent post. Best I've seen on here in a while.
A couple thoughts.
I hate to concede a guaranteed loss.I know bama is great, but anything can happen in college football on any given Saturday.
Also, I think Georgia and SC will be tough, especially on the road, but once again, I don't think they are solid losses.
BUT, and that's a big but, our guys have to fight for 60 solid minutes. These teams will not give up a loss at home without a huge fight. This SEC schedule will be a great test of where our team is mentally, physically, and be a true gut check.
If we have another SEC season like this last one, Dooley will probably be shown the door. If our guys will play for him and truly represent Tennessee the way our fans deserve, it could be a great season.
Ringleader writes:
It was Alabama wanting to drop Georgia. Alabama has a loosing record against Georgia since 1966, and they have a loosing record against Georgia at home. Saban has a loosing record against Georgia also. It was Alabama joined by Hart which put Missouri in the East which was flat stupid and without any reasoning. Saban said moving Auburn to the east would give them a recruiting advantage.
NottaVol writes:
So you're saying that Saban is scared to play Georgia, haha. Where were you during the "Blackout" a few years ago? I hope Santa shots in your Cheerios.
Ringleader writes:
You got it right.............
Best I recall, it was 30 to 10 UGA the second half of that game, and Georgia almost set a new NCAA record for a come from behind win. If not for a single interception, UGA would have won.
And........Saban is and has been scared to play UGA
VolGrad writes:
1. The SEC will have a nine game schedule eventually. However, they cannot suddenly start with one as it would cost a great deal of money for all the teams to buy out of previously scheduled non-conference games to make it happen. That is a fact, and it is not in dispute.
2. The SEC is still the toughest conference in the country. Playing non-conference games has always been part of the slate, and at least 2, usually 3 are typically scheduled against lesser competition for good reason. The SEC already beats up on itself and would rather use MOST of its non-conference slate to set itself up to play those premier non-conference teams in bowl games. Remember when you purchase season tickets that it is all about the TEAM, not just ticket holders.
3. I hope this has been helpful.

Actually, we didn't "drop" LSU. They were not going to be on it in 2012 anyway. We had just completed our home and away with them. Arkansas, however, was on it originally since we were in the middle of our home and away with them. And, yes, having Miss St. instead is rather nice although they usually make it tough for us.
Looking forward to the upcoming season. I wish we had televised scrimmages each weekend against other schools throughout the spring. But then, I'm just a college football junkie and can't get enough.

Add the additional same conference opponent.(MO)
Continue the same opponent as rival from opposite converence.(AL)
Continue the opposite conference rival that was played last year.(AR)
Delay the new opposite conference rival that normally would begin in 2012 to 2013-14.(MS State)
Room for 3 "little sisters of the poor" opponents.
If the SEC AD's are really courageous, they should have three teams from the opposite conference, besides the rival game, and one big intersectional game for each team. Only one little sister of the poor to devour. Now, just how hard could it be? The SEC Champion might have three losses, or maybe four, but if healthy it could beat any team playing in other conferences. Go Vols! SAVol
VolGrad writes:
"from the opposite conference" I assume means "other division."
And if the SEC champion had even 2 or 3, much less 4 losses, it might never ever play for an NC again.
Eventually, the SEC will play a 9 game SEC schedule. That is sufficient. What is the real motivation for changing how many alleged powder puff teams we play when we already beat ourselves up enough with an SEC slate of 8 and eventually 9 games? The fans??! What about the health of our team?
I'd like to see as many SEC teams qualify for BCS bowls as possible as well as the NC game. That won't happen if we kill ourselves off. Playing our division teams (now 6) and eventually 3 opponents from the opposite division should be sufficient. That already will bring the number of non-conference opponents down from 4 to 3 teams. And some of those remaining 3 for Tennessee will include the likes of Oklahoma, Nebraska and Oregon. Not too much room left for anything more than the homecoming day powder puff team.
Go Vols!

For what it's worth, I think Vols fans (and really SEC fans in general) are short-selling Missouri. I've got no love for them, but I am realistic and my eyes indicate that they will be a tough game for every SEC East team next year. They are well coached and will begin recruiting better now that they are SEC members. Don't know if any of you saw them dismantle North Carolina the other day, but it was pretty impressive (granted, UNC isn't a great team but they had more talent than Missouri and still got their butts kicked).
