The skinny: Thomas’ commitment may not have been the most newsworthy, but it was important for UT, as it showed coach Derek Dooley and his staff were able to cross the invisible fence that seemed to be barricading the Memphis area from the Vols over the past years. Thomas flirted at the end with a chance to see immediate playing time at Southern Miss, but ultimately stuck with the pledge he made to wide receivers coach Charlie Baggett in October.
