Melvin Goins has neck injury, sits out practice

Tennessee senior point guard Melvin Goins is being held out of Monday's practice with a neck injury he suffered in Saturday's 61-60 loss at Florida.

Vols coach Bruce Pearl said Goins has been checked and cleared of a concussion.

Goins suffered the injury when he took a hard fall in the first half, but he returned to action in a matter of moments and played 31 minutes.

Pearl did not give a timetable for Goins' return, but he is expected to be ready to play when Tennessee plays host to South Carolina at 7 p.m. on Wednesday at Thompson-Boling Arena.

More details as they develop online.

Glad he didn't have a concussion, that might have explained his last shot. Sorry, couldn't help it.

I am ALL VOL, but his guard play just ain't cutting it. GBO!

I love Goins tenacity but the kid just is not an SEC starting PG. I think he can bring something to the team off the bench or if the other PG starts getting into a grove he can become a stopper, but you just can't have him run the offense for any extended period of time. Last year he was at his best when we moved him to shooting guard. Unfortunately he is to small for that roll.

Hang in there, Melvin. Praying that it's nothing serious and that you fully recover quickly.

Prob cuz BP rattled his neck for shooting a 3 point at the last sec when we only needed one. All kidding aside, get well soon Melvin!

Pearl has protected Goins all season. If he was going to roll him he would have done it after he single handily lost the Charlotte game. DC you just like him in there because as long as he plays this team is stuck in neutral. If anyone steps up at the point, this team will be dangerous. I know that scares you and some of your dip sh?@# troll friends.

He can't drive the lane without running into our big men, the big guys can't shoot, and nobody is screening or cutting, so what is the pg supposed to do?

I was surprised the refs didn't call a foul on Brian when Mel charged into him.

get well soon melvin.

by the way, any troll who comes on this site and makes fun of an injured player is a low life piece of dirt. why not imagine one of your own family, sister, brother, wife injured, or perhaps sick with a disease and this forum making fun of them. both of you sleez bags are worthless cowards who hide behind a monitor. did i leave out the word punk?

there again, get well soon melvin.

He must've hurt his neck while shoving his head up his $%^ at the end of the Florida game.

As we all know trolls have no lives. A troll who posts on a day-to-day injury of a UT basketball player is beyond comprehension.

Good luck to Goins in getting back on the court.

VOLFROMNC writes:

He showed some toughness playing the rest of that game after the way he fell. I think that Pearl is feeling a lot of pressure and for whatever reason he chose Goins to be the latest scapegoat. I have less faith in Pearl every game. Hope Goins can turn this into a positive because his coach has shown a serious lack of class on this one. Not to mention that he's a cheater. Don't blame your players for what you created.
