If you have to go to "GVX" to read the story then put it under the "GVX" heading and not under the Top Stories. Paying to read columns failed once before, what make KNS thinks it will be a success this time.

Jack, despite what you say, there is no way a financially struggling newspaper would have cancelled GoVolsXtra if it was making money. Period. Also, you are charging for the same kind of content that was free a month or so ago. ( At least you still had Dave Hooker when you were charging before, and subscribers actually received significant recruiting news.)

have to agree with everyone here, jack. just file pay stories under a pay heading so we won't waste our time clicking them.

It is quite obvious the pay site is failing miserably. No one is posting after the articles and jack fail is getting more and more bitter. LOL!!!!!!!

At issue here isn't whether GVX should offer paid content or not, it's about the quality of that paid content. Thus far I haven't seen anything that wasn't easily obtainable somewhere else. And that really is the core issue.

Charge for content all you like. But it'd better be d*mn good. So far, it's not. And despite Jack's assertion that the previous iteration of paid GVX was a success, that's the same issue that faces this paid service.

All newspapers every are struggling financially because of the internet and its their right like that of any business to try to generate revenue. Its everones right as well to not subscribe to it but to dog them because of it is biting the hands that feed. You folks keep this attitude then I wouldnt blame them for pulling this free site altogether----then you have to subscibe or go to lot more trouble getting information-----------you complainers just never know when to quit ---having this free site is not a right but a nice gesture from KNS that they can pull any time they want as an "up yours"-----they give you a free site for you idiots to use to constantly dog them??????

I can see the paysite thing, but I strongly agree that it has no place in Top Stories. This is frustrating. Please stop throwing it in the face of those of us that don't want it.

They won't do that right now because every click on that site no doubt enhances their advertising revenue.

I give my money to VOLQUEST. Seems like GVX is just cloning there stories. This little venture will fail. I love General Quarters on VOLQUESt that comes out every Friday.

i agree $10 a month is too much but they couldnt justify having 2 sites for just 2-3/mo for the paid. They ought to just charge 5 or less a month for this site and be done with it----------it will weed out some of the lower end idiots, trolls and ours alike--------that will be the just reward for those bellyaching about trolls so much that this would becomes a small pay site to flush some out ( like we dont have our own trolls on other sites as well)

Well at least some posters here have an idea that newspapers and other news sites are trying to develop new revenue streams. It's a fact of life. What I don't understand is the vitriol over an attempt by a BUSINESS to try to pull us into subscribing to a paid service. If you don't want it, hit the "back" arrow on your computer. I know that's difficult, but it's a lot easier than posting ignorant comments of complaint.

Dead Head I think you have that correct. It appears that during hard times all areas try to grab more income. Goverment raises Taxes and all necessities go up. If you aren't heavy into Oil companies you can't get 2% on your investments. All that really does is crush the marginal income people and in bad time that is a lot.

Richardson is down to Ga. 40% and Vols 60%.

Nothing more than a lifelong University of Tennessee athletics fan here since 1963 and currently living in San Diego, California with no option at all of having the Knoxville News Sentinal delivered to my doorstep. I haven't a real care in the world one way or the other regarding the pay for play innuendo being proposed, as I will deterimine my own value rating of this so-called 247, and if I don't like it, I won't "play" and go elsewhere for Vols information.

That said, who is Jack Lail? He certainly comes across as a very insecure power struggling arrogant jerk, who has taken it upon himself to take a purely business matter and make it his own little personal power play agenda. What's disconcerting is that while he is actually being paid a salary to perform productive assigned tasks at KNS, he is instead wasting a great deal of time and effort thinking of cute, smart alec responses solely intended to antagonize those rightfully expressing their opinions of opposition to the new pay 247 site. Mr. Lail is clearly taking liberties not afforded by or intendended as a part of his profession and job description with KNS. His "it's my ball, and if you don't like it, I'll take it and go home" attitude and flagrant needling with his self-instated authority is really quite unprofessional. I can only imagine that he is very little respected passive-agressive personality, stuck in perpetual corporate America doldrums, having accomplished nothing of any great value in his adult life. I imagine he probably has struggles with authority within his own household and is likely seldom the wearer of the proverbial pants. Based on his behavior, I suspect he wants so badly to be somebody important but cannot, so in turn he sits behind the comforts and security of his little monitor in his cubicle and pecks away obnoxiously terse remarks to likely loyal long time readers. Sad really, because it is impossible for anything positive in any regard to result from his insulting commentary. I am very surprised KNS has not cracked down on him yet, but it is just a matter of time, and this will without fail come back to bite him in the figurative and literal end.
