Cameron Clear, 17, a 6-foot-6, 255-pound tight end from Memphis Central High School, is the News Sentinel’s top-ranked high school football player in Tennessee.

The next three weeks will decide everything for Cameron Clear.

As the tight end from Memphis Central High School prepares to take an official visit to Tennessee this weekend, he insists that all of the colleges he’s still considering are currently on even ground.

Failed? The paid GVX site was a financial success by any measure you want to use; we just decided we wanted a larger audience.

Jack, despite what you say, there is no way a financially struggling newspaper would have cancelled GoVolsXtra if it was making money. Period. Also, you are charging for the same kind of content that was free a month or so ago. ( At least you still had Dave Hooker when you were charging before, and subscribers actually received significant recruiting news.)

Jack just something to ponder. I am a subscriber to the News Sentinel, have you ever considered giving a free account to subscribers? That could possible increase your subscribers and as you and I both know my yearly subscription is a lot more than a yearly access to GVX. Just a though, also thanks for the current site it does give folks a place to gather and share opinions/comments.....

2007 wasn't 2009.

GVX247 involves writers and features that we didn't have prior to its launch.

Hooker was hired when we launched the paid site and he was hired because we were launching a paid site. This time around two reporters were hired and GVX247 taps into the whole 247Sports network for content on GVX247 as well, an advantage we've never had as a single team site.

That's a little tough because GVX247 also involves another company as a partner.

But what we did ask for is the right to print in the newspaper complete GVX247 stories that would be premium paid content online. And if you are a print subscriber, you may have noticed this already in your newspaper. They are being used on Sundays mostly, where we have more space.

We think we've enhanced our recruiting coverage in print by doing that.

Perhaps you should all do what I just did.....cancel your KNS subscription. I'm tired of paying $180/yr only to be given the "bait and switch" in an attempt to squeeze a little more money out of me. I will simply get my Vol news from http://smokiespost.blogspot.com/ and avoid all the GVX links on their page.

I think my next cancellation will be the KNS that comes to my professional office. Perhaps if a few hundred more people do this, they will get the picture.

Congratulations KNS; your greed just cost you about $300/yr.

Yes I have noticed most if not all articles eventually show in my daily paper, unfortunately by the time it makes it into the paper it is old news that has already been posted elsewhere. I must admit I seldom read very much from the newpaper when it comes because I have read most of it online somewhere. I had already noticed I would read articles in the past on Golsxtra.com that I would be telling my daughter about and it would show up in the paper days later.

I do understand the business side with your partnership but also know that it can cause problems when you start charging for something that was free. But hey I guess it happens every day. As far as canceling my subscription to the paper it will not happen unless the economy gets worse than it already is, my wife says it more than pays for itself with the coupons she clips.

Take care........

But I would not pay in the past for the KNS when they attempted to be a pay site, and I will not pay for this "CVX247" either. There are too many other sources to derive news from. I have other things more important for my $. Isn't that what ads are for on the govolsxtra site?

Just food for thought and a comment from a reader.

Charge for content all you like. But it'd better be d*mn good. So far, it's not. And despite Jack's assertion that the previous iteration of paid GVX was a success, that's the same issue that faces this paid service.

This is a crucial period for Tn. recruiting. With Cam Clear and Gabe Wright visiting on 1/15, Brandon Fulse, Mickey Johnson, and Tom Smith on the 21st, Lamar Dawson, Kent Turene, and Derrick Milton on the 28th, the Coaching staff needs to land at least three of these that aren't already on board, and, if they can land four star rb Marlin Lane and db Byron Moore, this will be a good class. I may be wrong but I believe Antonio Richardson is going elsewhere.

i agree $10 a month is too much but they couldnt justify having 2 sites for just 2-3/mo for the paid. They ought to just charge 5 or less a month for this site and be done with it----------it will weed out some of the lower end idiots, trolls and ours alike--------that will be the just reward for those bellyaching about trolls so much that this would becomes a small pay site to flush some out ( like we dont have our own trolls on other sites as well)

Dead Head I think you have that correct. It appears that during hard times all areas try to grab more income. Goverment raises Taxes and all necessities go up. If you aren't heavy into Oil companies you can't get 2% on your investments. All that really does is crush the marginal income people and in bad time that is a lot.

I haven't a real care in the world one way or the other regarding the pay for play innuendo being proposed, as I will deterimine my own value rating of this so-called 247, and if I don't like it, I won't "play" and go elsewhere for Vols information.

That said, who is Jack Lail? He certainly comes across as a very insecure power struggling arrogant jerk, who has taken it upon himself to take a purely business matter and make it his own little personal power play agenda. What's disconcerting is that while he is actually being paid a salary to perform productive assigned tasks at KNS, he is instead wasting a great deal of time and effort thinking of cute, smart alec responses solely intended to antagonize those rightfully expressing their opinions of opposition to the new pay 247 site. Mr. Lail is clearly taking liberties not afforded by or intendended as a part of his profession and job description with KNS. His "it's my ball, and if you don't like it, I'll take it and go home" attitude and flagrant needling with his self-instated authority is really quite unprofessional. I can only imagine that he is very little respected passive-agressive personality, stuck in perpetual corporate America doldrums, having accomplished nothing of any great value in his adult life. I imagine he probably has struggles with authority within his own household and is likely seldom the wearer of the proverbial pants. Based on his behavior, I suspect he wants so badly to be somebody important but cannot, so in turn he sits behind the comforts and security of his little monitor in his cubicle and pecks away obnoxiously terse remarks to likely loyal long time readers. Sad really, because it is impossible for anything positive in any regard to result from his insulting commentary. I am very surprised KNS has not cracked down on him yet, but it is just a matter of time, and this will without fail come back to bite him in the figurative and literal end.
