Tennessee head coach Bruce Pearl calls to his players as they take on Memphis at Thompson-Boling Arena Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2011.

Tennessee men's basketball coach Bruce Pearl will not travel with the team to Georgia tonight.

The Vols (11-6, 1-2 SEC) play the Bulldogs (13-3, 2-1) on Tuesday (TV: ESPNU, 7 p.m.).

The Vols did their walk-through practice at Thompson-Boling Arena on Monday because of a scheduling conflict at Stegeman Coliseum in Athens.

“If we could have done our walk-through there, I would have gone,'' said Pearl, who traveled with the team to Arkansas. “But Georgia has a gymnastics meet going on, so I won't be able to work with them at all.''

Pearl, who's missing the fourth game of his eight-game suspension, isn't allowed to take part in any game-day coaching duties.

Georgia has opened as a four-point favorite, marking only the third time the Vols have been an underdog this season.

Pittsburgh was an 8-point favorite over UT, and Villanova was a 5½-point favorite.

Isn't Bruce only suspended for two hours before and one hour after the game? I remember seeing an ESPN graphic about this.......EVERY FREAKING GAME!!! Either we got bad information, or this article is incorrect. Was something changed? Why would he not go with the guys? Something is strange here.....

If Bruce had gone, the Associate AD would have to go to stay with Bruce to make sure he didn't text/call any coaches or players ahead of or during the game. Have you seen the Associate AD? Well, Bruce's wife would have none of that.

However, he would be able to start a new career as a grill cook or dishwasher for one of the local restaurants, gas pump attendant at one of the local gas stations, assembly line associate for a factory, or sanitation specialist (garbage man)at a landfill/dump.

VolWoman writes:

How sweet, we're invaded again.

To the UT fans - he can't interact with the team at all on game days. I think the 2 & 1 hour rules are due to offices or other things at TBA where he can go but can't be around the players.

No gameday activities at all (meals, walk-thrus) and not in the arena 2 hours before tip off.

I'm pretty sure this has been addressed here on GVX before in a Pearl interview, that while the specifics say 2 hr. before to one hr. after, that Pearl is trying to live by the spirit of the law and have no game-day contact. Mike, could you or someone reply to this to clarify. I don't think there's anything strange about trying to be way above board on this.

If Hamilton didn't do it last June he certainly isn't going to do it now despite the wishes of a handful of posters on GVX. So stop talking about how the past is not your desired history and start debating what the NCAA will likely do. I'm thinking they go after UT instead of Pearl.

VolunteerLifer writes:

I would think that having him in the travel group and around the gym during walk throughs, etc - but not on the bench at games would be a distraction to the team. It's probably best that he just prepare the team in practice and let them travel with Tony or only let them be with Tony on game days.

VolWoman writes:

That doesn't seem right that a visiting team isn't allowed a walk-through.

CoverOrange writes:

The two hours has to do with not being in the game facility. For the whole day Pearl cannot participate in any team activities. He can say hello in the hallway to individuals though.

In this economy you shouldn't be so willing to give up your and your family members jobs. People act like Pearl killed his Momma and buried her in the cellar..

He has been a great coach for us. He will continue to be a great coach if he can get thru all this mess.

The difference? The POTUS is not subject to the rules of the SEC and NCAA. He's only bound by The Constitution.

Hey, I am not going to come back with some talk about your girl friend or whatever. As I said before, you were a pretty decent guy on here once. Settling down a bit, we all take these sports far too seriously.

Save me a seat at Stegeman? I would have to drive 500 miles to see the game ! Besides, I have a wonderful friend who lives in Athens and we've been to a lot of the Georgia girls games and I rooted like heck for Georgia. I think it is an intimidating place to play a game and I thoroughly enjoyed the antics of Spike and the halftime shows as well.

But, I am not going to go to GeorgiaDawgs.com or whatever it's called and run down your team or your coach.

So, let's call off the Dawgs ( dogs ) and try to be friends here. We know what's in store for U T tonight so it won't cause the world to fall in if we lose it, and probably will..........although I hope not.

Just a thought or 2 here.........

CCLC,

No problem friend. In fact.......I..........apologize to a lot of people here. We pull for our teams and sometimes it gets out of hand. I like the fact we are all loyal to our teams and often we forget it's just a game. In fact I also do not like the way things came down on Tennessee and it's not the way to do things. We have to be honest and follow the rules, and still we all make mistakes.

On the other site I was on, everyone actually knew the others by their actual names, and even met in person at the games, etc.

So let's pull for our teams, respect the other guys, and we'll be okay !
