Tennessee locker room after Vandy game
If you haven't seen it already, here's the video that has Tennessee coach Derek Dooley "a little disappointed" that it was made public and the video that has Vanderbilt coach James Franklin bookmarking bulletin board material a year in advance of next matchup. "We’ll have a lot of discussion about this next year when the time is right," Franklin said.
The video was shot in the Tennessee locker room following the Volunteers' 27-21 overtime win over in-state and SEC rival Vanderbilt on Saturday, Nov. 19, 2011.

Dooley's stock just rose in my eyes. Who gives a flying flip what the coach from Vandy thinks or cares. I sure don't because my blood runs orange. Go Big Orange. If you don;t want us to talk about you, then win the game and it will shut us up but until then Vandy you are our *itch like it or not!!!

Note to Coach Franklin, grow up. Second note, you are the coach at Vanderbilt and you have done nothing so far to go around acting like a Harbaugh, Spurrier, Parcells, Belichick. Man up big boy, get a few BIG WINS and then you can try and act like your S**t don't stink. Problem will always be that you are the head coach at Vanderbilt.

I see nothing wrong with celebrting in your own locker room. I think Vandy or any one for that matter does the same thing after a win. If Franklin can't take it he needs to get out of coaching or at the least away from Vandy because they are going to lose.

Really!?! You'll have A LOT of discussion!?! Is this how you will prepare to play us next year? Don't think that is the best way to prepare your team, coach.
Also, "When the time is right?" No time is right for you to cry about what we said in our own locker room.

So Dooley doesnt like that the video is out there and what does KNS do?? They go and post it.
NottaVol writes:
The truth is that you should be embarrassed about this video period. I mean celebrating like that after an upset victory of Vandy, good grief. The part where they were tossing DooLittle up in the air almost made me sick. I tell you what though, after thinking about it he's a perfect fit up there. Go Cats Go!!!
adimatteo#261830 writes:
so the news wants to make an issue of something said in locker room.
Sorry, but neither Dooley nor team have anyhting to be upset about.
Nice job to whoever decided to video it and then share it, ridciculous.
I would expect that coaches will do and say a lot to get their teams going and to make them feel good whent they are in their locker room or one on one.
This is nonsense and again no apology necesaary as far as I am concerned, there than from the idiot who decided to stir it up and run it
and that goes for any coach, anys chool

I was wondering if I was the only one who was thinking that. Really sad that the hometown paper has so little respect for the hometown team's coach

The one thing that was taught at UT that has been consistent coach after coach........hate Vandy because they hate you. Good for Coach Dooley, good for this team and good for this university. If this offends anyone they should find other interests. If this upsets someone at Vandy - tough......
If this gets under Coach Franklin's skin - get used to it because it will be the same year after year after year. I assure you Vandy has not closed the gap. UT might have closed the gap by falling off the last few years, but Vandy had nothing to do with it.
Vandy just needs to go back to West Nashville and get on their knees and give thanks that the SEC still writes them a check.

The record since 1950 is 55 to 6. Vandy won most of their games between 1892 and 1925. 55 wins to 6 so why would Franklin be upset that record is there for all to see.

I am impressed that a Cats fan has enough balls to get on a website that is discussing football, because we all know that KY knows nothing about playing football and knows even less about celebrating a win in football.

A win is a win, regardless if its an upset or that you were favored by 20...And remember Vandy was favored in this game, so why should the Vols not be happy... Had I been a RECRUIT visiting the Vols and been in that dressing room you can believe that I would have been impressed.. It was full of life,, it showed the relationship between the players and staff, so let it be.. I hope they do the same thing after kicking the butts of Ky..
barefoot43 writes:
You obviously have no idea of the history of UT and Vandy and obviously never played for UT or Vandy. When UT was at its best this is the way the game....rather the victory was celebrated. You just became aware of it because someone used their cell to video the celebration and post it (I would guess that will not be happening again). All victories are celebrated and in-state traditional rivalries are cherished even more, regardless if they are against doormats like Vandy.
volsfan74 writes:
NOTE to Coach Dooley, his staff and players. After ALL victories please walk to locker room in complete silence, no celebrations, no discussing the victory if you are asked about the victory your reply should be "No Comment". We need to respect the teams that have VERY little experience in Victory Celebrations such as Vandy and UK. Excessive celebration may hurt the ego's of there coaches and players. Hence forth the NCAA will recognize this as the "Franklin Rule".

Absolutely. Those teams go nuts after every win. Have you ever been in a locker room after a game?
I have waited some time to comment on the 2011 Vols. With one game to play we are 5-6. Have you looked at the BCS rankings lately?
Three of our losses were to the TOP three teams in the BCS rankings and two of those are ROTATING opponents on our schedule.
We have faced the perfect storm this year with scheduling, injuries and youth. To weather that storm at 6-6 will be an accomplishment and a springboard for better things to come.
Celebrate when you can. Learn always.

Uh...actually they linked it. Someone else posted it.
And bully for them. A UT coach who is publicly revered and respected by rivals will be privately derided and disrespected.
To borrow from NASCAR, if your rivals don't hate you, you're not trying hard enough. (Or more to the point, you're not beating them often enough.) And if they don't at least hate you, then they probably won't respect you either.
As for Lane Franklin, he's energizing the fan base without the wins. Sort of like James Kiffin did. Let me know how that works out!

Love the passion and enthusiasm that Dooley brings to the team. It's what was always missing with Fulmer on the sideline. That level of intensity is showing up on the field and will increasingly show up as Dooley leads a top recruiting effort that fills the roster with great talent and character. Go VOLS!!! Dooley and Martin are incredible Hamilton hires. With a few 3s yesterday in Maui, Duke was going down. Great teams in the works on the gridiron and the court!

Eight,
Fact is this, it is the first time that a lot of these freshmen have been there. The whole team has been to the wood shed for the last 5 weeks. Granted its Vandy but considering the butt end of the cow that this program has been hanging from for 3 years, just accept it, let these young men savor it and maybe , just maybe , they can use it and learn from it. Better days are ahead....remember that there was a time that even the Tide lost to La-Monroe...

Vandy was the better team that made more mistakes. The refs gave it to Tenn. Tenn won in OT at home vs Vandy... a team that had won 4 games in two years. Franklin has a great point. He will not lose to Tenn again.

A couple of points need to be made here.
1. Yes, we're UT, and maybe in other years victories over Vandy haven't meant as much. This is an extremely young team, though, that has had to battle through a lot of adversity (injuries, transfers, etc.) and was facing a much better than usual Vandy team. I'm personally glad they care and played like they did.
2. Franklin's attempt at a response was to say that UT shouldn't be celebrating a victory over a team that had 4 wins over the two immediately preceding seasons. Nice move, Franklin, throwing Bobby Johnson and Robbie Caldwell, who are by all accounts two of the classiest football coaches out there, under the bus. Taking that into account along with the ends of the Vandy-UGA and Vandy-UT games, I think we're finding out which of the two coaches is actually, shall we say, class challenged.
beef4davols writes:
Simple as this...we are never meant to see or hear what goes on in the locker room unless you can earn your way onto the team. Whoever put that video out will probably be banned. Regardless, I love the video and the teams reaction to a win (even if it was "just vandy"). And Franklin has to decide if it's going to be "woah is me, we're Vandy" or "I'm Bille Bad A-- the new guy on the block." It can't be both.
ACWLY writes:
I do agree with Dooley, the locker room should be a place of privacy especially after such an emotional game. But, Tennessee was just celebrating an extremely crucial victory, it really didn't matter who it was against? The spirit shown makes me feel proud of all our team!
buzz29 writes:
No problem w/ the overall celebration. It was a big win against a traditional rival who was favored to win, and it's hopefully a step toward a bowl game. Unfortunately, a moron felt the need to intrude upon the team's privacy in its locker room. Be careful w/ the word "always". Speaking in absolutes often comes back to haunt folks who do it.

I have been in Tennessee's locker room after games. The celebration is always the same after a win. The song is always the same except for changing the name of the school they have beaten. The Coach's victory speach is nearly always the same,as is the speach after a loss. I would guess all teams do the same thing.
Vandy should be use to this by now.If they want to change the locker room scene, then they need to change it by their play on the field.

HAHA! Didn't this same Vandy team beat down your Cats 38-8?! Joker Philips is your head coach and you want to talk trash about Dooley? We have beaten you 26 times in a row, which is more times than UK has beaten Tennessee in HISTORY (all time series record: 74-23-9 in favor of TENNESSEE). Sorry, but UK fans have zero place to talk any trash about football. Beat Tennessee, then you can say something. Until then sit down, keep quiet, and wait for basketball season.

I would bet every team gets excited over every overtime win.
This was Tennessee's first SEC win of the season. It was a game that most people (including Vegas oddsmakers) didn't think they would win, and it keeps them alive in bowl contention. It was a good win over the best Vanderbilt team in years.
In case you didn't notice, the Vol program is down right now-- it has been since '08, due too poor recruiting up through 2009.
If the Vols didn't win this one, the rebuilding process would take a huge hit.
Let them enjoy it. I enjoyed it, too.
100000strong writes:
Did you think they had tea and crumpets in the locker rooms? It's ridiculous for anyone to be upset with this. Happens in every locker room...unless your Vandy. "We don't give a damn about the whole school of Vanderbilt, because we are Tennessee!!!". Great song.
cgbtn writes:
Every time Vandy wins a football game, they make and sell a DVD. If Vandy had won, they would already have a DVD on the market entitled, "Victory in Knoxville." Franklin would be featured saying his team is far superior to the Vols.
By implying the TN video will be motivation for his players next year, Franklin is saying they were not motivated to play this year. Vandy really should not be taking victories for granted.
OrangePride writes:
Obviously, anyone finding this locker room scene a surprise has never been part of team or in locker rooms after a tough victory. Make no mistake, Vandy came to win and it was a GREAT game. So a celebration of this nature is to be expected. As for the coach using a touch of strong language, that is also pretty common in locker rooms. That all said, it was Franklin who refused to shake hands. It was Franklin pushing players aside who came to shake his hand. It was Franklin going ballistic on officials. THAT stuff was all right on TV to see. So save the sportsmanship lecture and grow up.
