Music City Bowl looks at UT, Vandy, Mississippi State

— Vanderbilt, Tennessee and Mississippi State all have one regular-season game left to pick up their sixth win and reach bowl eligibility.

Their fans won’t be the only ones with their fingers crossed on Saturday.

Representatives of Nashville’s Franklin American Mortgage Music City Bowl, the Auto Zone Liberty Bowl in Memphis and the BBVA Compass Bowl in Birmingham will all have a rooting interest.

The three teams must win for the bowls with the three last SEC tie-ins to all have a chance to have teams from the conference. The Music City Bowl most likely just needs at least one of

Happy Thanksgiving to you as well mister bluebird of delightfulness.....Wow so that is how you start a day of thanksgiving huh? The good news for you is it can only get better after your rock bottom start. On topic, yes we are not all enamored with a low tier bowl, but thankfull with a victory Saturday to be considered for one at all. Thanksgiving blessing to you and all poster children!

6-6 and being invited to a lower tier bowl is not what any Vol fan wanted or expected at the start of the season. However, given the way the season went with it's perfect storm of injuries, inexperience and the toughest schedule going 6-6 and going to a bowl game is a pretty good way to end the season on a high note.

Rock on Vols, beat UK and go bowling!

Certainly not what anybody wants but all of the "experts" thought we'd be 7 and 5 at best. And I firmly believe, if Hunter and Bray aren't hurt, we'd be 7 and 5 for sure. No shot at Bama or LSU but those two would have made a huge difference together against Georgia and South Carolina and I think we would have gotten one of those games with both of them playing.

As you said, given everything that's happened and a top 5 schedule, a bowl wouldn't be a bad thing. (Not the least of which is the extra practice time you get for your younger players.) Got to start stepping it up in year 3 and 4 though or we'll be riding the coaching carousel again.

It is so intersting to see that ewe started postering with this screen name in June before the season started. So you had formulated your well thought opinion of Coach Dooley(not your 3rd grade version) and the VOLS. Cheer up your Thanksgiving can only get better since ewe started at the bottom :)

I remember a couple of years ago when Jay Cutler lead Vanderbilt over Tennessee. The UT-Thugs were so ticked off after being beat they threw their helmets down and walked off the field cursing at the crowd, one of the players reportedly spit on the cameraman. Really Classy Tennessee.

That loss to Vandy was not "a couple years ago". It was more like 6 years ago. And those UT-Thugs that were so ticked off after being beat they threw their helmets down and walked off the field cursing at the crowd, one of the players reportedly spitting on the cameraman, were recruited and coached by Fulmer.

Apparently, you're such a "Philbillie" that you cannot even make up your mind.

Bowls used to mean something....don't anymore. Years ago a 7-3 record wouldn't even get you noticed for a bowl invitation. It's equally repulsive that high dollar programs would schedule teams like Montana, MTSU, Buffalo and such simply to become bowl eligible. Going to a bowl is no big deal anymore. Really sad....

Vandy?? What a joke! From a business standpoint that would make no "cents". Maybe VU is good for about 5,000 tickets sold, considering that almost no Vandy students live in Nashville, and will be out of town on break.

It's a Friday night game, so one would expect many Vol fans to buy in, and spend at least 1 night in Nashville. That's what Nashville really wants. Bet the stadium would be more than half full of Orange. MSU would not be a bad second choice, but probably still would not draw like the Vols. Memphis is a better place for the Bulldogs. So many Vol fans dislike the Memphis trips.

I don't recall what game it was but UNC got bitten by the new rule and it cost them a probable win.

I expect 8-4 and no less. 7-5 will somehow keep CDDs job but 6-6 and he better be gone.

Uh, payout for Music City Bowl is up to 3.6 million, not "$500,000". And I certainly am not worried that we couldn't have beaten North Carolina in Knoxville this year. And there is quite a list of teams who got beat to death by those three, including Auburn, Florida, and Georgia (soon enough). Why don't you go to their sites and bust their humps as they all three have far fewer reasons to be mediocre than we do? And yes, we are better off without Fulmer, not because he wasn't capable, but because he just didn't care enough anymore. Chavis and Cutcliffe? The former only good with NFL-calibre players, never coached anybody up, the latter a great coach but doesn't have the political skills or savvy to be a HC in the SEC. If Dooley truly stinks, he will be fired by Hart soon enough, not really your problem. Have a great holiday! Go Vols!!!

Donig a repeat of last year [if UT beats UK] is not what vols fans thought woold happen in Sept. but given how the season went it has turned out better then many thought, if only the mild cats go down, which should happen. A win in the bowl game would be a plus over 2010.

You forgot Florida. Even the TV announcers said you could hear the whole Tennessee Team deflate when Justin Hunter went down. After watching several games I believe that with Rogers improvement, He and Hunter would have proved to be game winners. I'm not saying we beat them, but Georgia and South Carolina would have been very competitive which if won would have given us a 8 win season.
Note:If Kentucky does not win tomorrow, it may be another 25 years because everyone pretty much agrees that next year is the year things starting returning to normal on Rocky Top.
One last word. I believe this team deserves a bowl game as much as any Tennessee Team I have supported. This kids played through injuries, Heartbreaking loses, bad luck, etc. They never gave up and from what I seen always played hard. I was watching the LSU game and at the end, down by 31 points, they were still hurrying up trying to score. Kids with lesser character would have just quit. I like this team a lot more than some of the 11-1 or 10-2 teams we have had. They are a special group who are going to make everyone very proud next year or the next. I'm already very proud, but I know some people need wins to be proud, and these kids are going to give them to you very soon.
