GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) — Florida coach Will Muschamp is cleaning up his act.
Well, at least his language.
Muschamp apologized Tuesday for his colorful words that were caught by television cameras during his team's 17-6 loss at Auburn last week. But the emotional first-year coach said he has no plans to temper his sideline antics.
"Just the language," Muschamp said.
"It's hard when you've got a 6-year-old and a 10-year-old at home and you've got to go home and explain to them what you said. So that's not good and that's not how we're going to run our program. That's it. Again, as far as the sideline stuff's concerned, we're going to be who we are. I'm just apologizing for the language, nothing else."
Muschamp lost his temper several times during the game — all season really — and at least two rants were picked up clearly by sideline microphones.
The most notable one came when running back Chris Rainey muffed a punt in the first quarter.
Replays seemed to show an Auburn player interfering with Rainey just before the catch. Muschamp screamed at officials, had to be restrained by an assistant and even called timeout to yell some more.
Cameras stayed on him throughout his salty tirade.
"That's not something that's going to be tolerated here at the University of Florida, first of all, by me and our program," Muschamp said. "That's certainly not representative of what this program and this university is about."
Muschamp is as fiery as any coach in the country. Nicknamed "Coach Boom" while he was defensive coordinator at Auburn, Muschamp brings as much energy to the sideline as anyone in uniform.
He jumps up and down with every big play, exchanges hugs, high-fives and chest bumps, and hasn't been shy about sharing his opinion with officials. If he were a basketball or baseball coach, he already would have been ejected this season.
His emotions are as visible as Florida's bright orange helmets. The guys in pinstripes aren't the only ones to feel his wrath, either.
Muschamp barks at his players and assistant coaches. He was caught on camera having words with special teams coordinator D.J. Durkin two weeks ago at LSU after the Gators allowed a first down on a fake punt.
Even though many of Florida's players were never yelled at as high school stars, they insist they enjoy seeing Muschamp's passionate outbursts, red-faced screams and emphatic celebrations.
Muschamp said he doesn't believe his demeanor has any negative impact on the team.
"I don't think it hurts anything, I can tell you that," Muschamp said. "That's going to be who I am. That's what I said from the beginning."

Ranting seems to be one of his better traits. He showed his buttt when we played him as well- for all the interference calls. Stress is a killer!
Jakevol writes:
Seems the Vandy coach needs to talk to Will. I don't really like his actions on the side lines. He shows his butt too much. It must not be working since Auburn took care of them Saturday and more butt whipping are forth coming. He may just simply melt down and run off the field in liquid form.

Cusschamp vs. Grantham may be interesting.

Muschamp is a dope (as is Weiss). The rants are a cover up for this ineffective coaching abilities and his mediocre team.
AlpharettaVol writes:
I think what he really means is that he will try to do it in a way that it will not be picked up by the TV mikes. I think we have come to the point where all coaches think they can berate the officials constantly, even when a play is in progress. It just shows that Muschamp has absolutely no class.

Vols,
There's inspiring your team on the sideline.........and then there's totally losing your cool in front of your team.
Appears the clock is ticking on W M's longevity if he cannot get a grip on his
sideline antics.
MemphoVol writes:
No doubt he had his hand slapped by his boss and was told to apologize. What a big baby!
OrangePride writes:
As I said some weeks ago to all you Florida trolls....Muschamp is someone who is going to embarrass you and become the "bad boy" of the SEC. And as his W-L record gets harder to defend, you will see his behavior only get worse and gator fans will begin to turn on him just as they did Zook.

Muschump is a true Gator...someone you love to hate. hope he's there a long time. starting next year, we will be beating them as long as he's there.

I can't wait for that one! G.B.O.!!!
BodeaneVol writes:
No...on to 8 in a row. I for one am glad he apologized, but I hope he doesn't lose his passion on the sidelines.
I mean, it is a lot more enjoyable than watching Barney Fife on the sidelines in Neybob, pacing like his wife was in delivery.

memphovol is right, foley twisted his arm.

Two things...
1. He and Brian Kelly should get together sometime and go bowling. They seem to have similar personalities.
2. I can't imagine the parents of a recruit seeing that kind of behavior are inspired to encourage their son to sign with him.

Can you give a short, simple explanation why you hate Coach Dooley? G.B.O.!!!

I can see why juvenile fans would admire a juvenile coach. Makes sense.

Don't see anything wrong with the HC sticking up for his team or complaining to the refs because every team gets bad calls..But Muschamp takes it too far and has time after time, which is not good for his health.
I guess it's alright if it's Muschamp that does this;but if this were CDD having to apologize. the trolls would be riding Vol fans and CDD because of it..Glad the CDD doesn't exhibit this behavior every time something doesn't go his way..I have seen him get upset, but nothing like Muschamp does.
Smokey says Muschamp needs to get his temper under control or he will be apologizing over and over, not healthy..
ProwlinAndGrowlinSmokeyDog writes:
BTW..if I were the trolls, I wouldn't be looking ahead to next year..You need to focus on the rest of the season and the issues the Gators have, which are plenty..Don't give me that c-r-a-p that the Gators have no issues, cause they do..
Smokey says you will still manage to win 6 games this year under the "greatest coaching staff ever assembled" according to the trolls..

Not slamming on WM but I can think of NO ONE I respect in my life who goes off like this and uses juvenile language like this to express themselves...again not slamming on Muschamp but the ones I know who act this way are basically very dimwitted, unrefined, uneducated, people with very little class....Will, just clean it up...oh and by the way...it OBVIOUSLY effects your team...that's the one sure thing....

I agree with tennrich1. A true leader is one who keeps control of his emotions when things to really good or really bad. Someone on any team has to maintain balance, and it should come from the head coach.
kman29 writes:
First off, nobody is looking ahead to next year. Florida still has plenty of opportunities to try and win the east, especially if they get Brantley back for the UGA game which looks promising. Secondly, nobody ever said Florida didn't have issues. Certainly them being a young team then having to go a game and a half against the top two teams in the country with 18 year old true freshman at QB and then go on the road and have the defending national champs with the same QB issues, yeah that is cause for serious problems, but as you all know injuries happen and you move on.
On the flip side, how long is Vol fan going to be talking about next year? It's clear you all have already given up on this season, but who can blame you all when 3-5 is staring the Vols in the face. Hopefully though a middle tenn. state win can get you all to 4-5 so that way the next week going to 4-6 won't hurt as much. Then MAYBE, just MAYBE by Nov. 19th Tenn. can get their first SEC win of the year against Vandy. Then again, Vandy should have beat the same UGA team who had no trouble with Tennessee, so who knows. But hey, we all understand that Dooley gets a "pass" for who knows how many years with you all.

He's got a problem, no doubt, and the Gators eeem to be falling apart.

It really was desparation. Folly was afraid that lil' Urbie was going to retract his resignation/retirement ... again, so Folly jumped for these two "big names." Folly really showed lil' Urbie that he can't mess with the mighty gatas!
Alabama 38-10
LSU 41-11
Auburn 17-6

I spoke to a friend of mine who is a big time Flordur booster and he says that cushchamp and lard buck liess will be gone by 2013.
The boosters are seeing through the cussing smoke and mirrors, and the wild eyed muscump can cuss like a sea going sailor, but he can't coach worth a bhit, and you can't get lard bucket liess away from the bolonga sandwiches in the cooler that he sits on all game,he's afraid someone might try to eat one of them.
I never thought my gators would have 3 loses so early in the season...maybe the boosters are right...changes have to be made...:)
kman29 writes:
funny, you don't want to post the Florida/Tennessee score?
Clearly the hiring of Muschamp like many hires of head coaches who have never had head coaching experience is never a certain to be a successful hire, but it is quite amusing for you to attempt to bash a coach who is already 1-0 vs. the Vols while your current coach sits there with his life time Vol record of 9-10 which is certain to probably be 9-12 after the next two games and an SEC record of 2-9 which will probably be 2-12 going into UTs game against Vandy. Yet this is success right?
By the way just as a comparison since you continually want to additionally bash Weis for his coaching ability
Dooley career record: 26-30
Weis career record: 35-27
Dooley career winning seasons: 1
Weis career winning seasons: 3
Dooley BCS bowl apperances: 0
Weis BCS bowl apperances: 2
Now I certainly am not going to be one to praise Weis as a head coach, but clearly his record as a head coach is more of an up grade that what UT is currently getting.

The temper tantrums Muschamp throws would embarrass a 5 year old. If you can't control yourself, how can you expect to control a team? As earlier posts expressed, why he hasn't been flagged is beyond me. If I was a player and lost it like he does, I would certainly point out his behavior if he got on me. You lead by example and his example is beyond poor.

Really, Coach Dooley's record has nothing to do with Little Willie being forced by Folly to apologize for his childish behavior.
I don't get you lil' GataBoys! If KNS posts a story about our Vols, all you wanna talk about are the Gatas. If the story is about your Gatas, all you want to talk about is the Vols. Can you ever stay on topic? Really, Coach Dooley's record has nothing to do with Little Willie being forced by Folly to apologize for his childish behavior.
