Taber Spani returns to Lady Vols practice

Tennessee got back one women's basketball player from the injured list on Wednesday.

Junior guard Taber Spani, who underwent surgery on her left elbow on Oct. 4, was back at practice, wearing a sleeve on her left arm. Spani originally was projected to be sidelined for three to four weeks by the procedure, which removed a build-up of scar tissue.

"I'm just glad to have her back," UT coach Pat Summitt said.

Spani averaged 8.0 points, 4.1 rebounds and 22.8 minutes per game last season, starting 26 of 37 games.

"She's somebody we know is going to play significant minutes,'' Lady Vols assistant coach Dean Lockwood said. "So she needs to get in the fold and get the reps in."

Freshman point guard Ariel Massengale continues to be sidelined after colliding with teammate Cierra Burdick last Monday and suffering concussion-like symptoms. She watched practice for a second consecutive day.

Guard Kamiko Williams is recovering from knee surgery that she had in July.

That's a good-news article. Anxious for the day when we have 100% of players practicing full speed ahead. This injury thing drives me nuts.

We need to be ready to make a statement from the get-go. From pre-season to 'creampuff' competition, we need to be scoring, rebounding, assisting & defending like it was a championship game. No playing down to opponent; no fear of opponent; just full out face up; down in the stance-stick 'em in the eye basketball. For Pat's sake.

That's gonna be my 'thang' this season — everything is for Pat's sake...

I like that! We also need to be a 40 minute team this year, and not coming out in the 2nd half expecting to dominate every team. But yes, for Pats sake hopefully this team will show NO mercy.

These girls are tough. I love their attitude and spirit. I believe this could be a very special year! Go Vols!

Don't get your hopes up. Until Pat has someone that can teach big girls moves, how to draw fouls, how to shoot a simple fade away and other techniques, they will go just so far. They have the tallent as a team. Has Pat ever won a championship without good big girls!

I hope Taber plays within herself this season...she's talented enough to drain 3 after three ball on these haters this season, so the post is opened up for Vicki, Gloria, Isabelle, and Cierra. We're thin in the post this season, but we're excellent in the post LOL
