Halftime: Tennessee 6, Alabama 6

Surprise! It’s 6-6 at the half in Tuscaloosa, where No. 2 Alabama is a 29-point favorite over the Vols.

The only scoring is four field goals, two by Michael Palardy and two by Alabama’s Jeremy Shelley.

Tennessee struck first, a 12-play drive that ended in a 40-yard Palardy field goal.

Bama heaved a 69-yard bomb to Marquis Maze on the first play after the kickoff but could only come up with a 26-yard field goal to tie.

Shelley’s 29-yarder put Alabama up 6-3 in the second quarter.

The Vols answered with an 11-play drive. Da’Rick Rogers had a 21-yard catch on third down, but the big play involved trickery.

On fourth-and-4, Palardy lined up to punt, but threw a short pass to Anthony Anderson who fought for a 5-yard gain and a first down. Alabama was flagged for a face-mask penalty on the tackle and the additional 15 yards gave UT a first down at the Alabama 33.

They didn’t advance from there, losing a yard. On fourth-and-11, Palardy came on and hit a career-long 52-yard field goal to tie the score.

Let's not celebrate too much still a half to play. Keep em out of the endzone boys!!!!! GO VOLS!!!!!!!

These boys are fighting their rear ends off. Go Vols, Get 'em!!

GBO! Don't let up in the 2nd half! Let's go Vols!

Palardy is having one heck of a game so far. Very refreshing. Now, if Simms would get on board and quit staring receivers down....

Fight Vols Fight. 2nd half, let's set a new standard!!!

Very impressed as with a whole lot of other people. Defense is playing lights out. Loved the play on special teams with the 4th down conversion. That 52 yarder was a buttpuckerupper. I am really praying to the Orange FootBall gods LOL, that the 2nd half will not be a let down. But they have the momentum, the offense really has got to get moving and in the mean time were down bama's defense.

Fire Dooley! Not.

We get the ball back with 2 minutes and change, and Doofus Doolittle plays for a moral victory. He just took the wind out of these players sails. His coaching is disgusting.

Ok you are right I was wrong, I admit it. So I'll buy you a cookie LOL. However I would just to see this every game play like they have nothing to lose.

tdvol1989 writes:

I hope Dooley yelled at them the whole half because Saban did. Be ready for Alabama to try to swing momentum. Don't let it happen.

CrankE writes:

I'll have to say that I'm seeing some things improve with this team.

Impressed with the running game.

Impressed with the kicking game-this is the kind of kicking that we expected from Palardy when he was recruited.

Defense is playing above their heads.

At the half, Dooley says we need to complete some passes on third and long. Disagree. We need some better plays on 1st and 2nd so that it's not always a 3rd and long.

Here's hoping that this doesn't fade away in the second half like so many other games.

CrankE writes:

I think ESPN has their sideline microphone placed inside a Tide cheerleader megaphone.

Simms is killing us! Bring in Nance at QB. He has experience throwing to Da'Rick at Calhoun!

tdvol1989 writes:

Terrible start. Dooley should pull a Lou Holtz and call a timeout to have church on the sideline. Our guys are ALL a step short. Our defense is nowhere near the receivers. Stone did not even try to block on the screen.

Then Walls miffed. Why wait until Bama scores to clap? Get PISSED NOW!!!

tdvol1989 writes:

Normally, I hate burning timeouts, but it was past time. He needs to get in their face and ask them if they are satisfied with a half-time tie. Don't bring up youth again unless you know for a fact that ALL FRESHMAN are quitters at half-time.

Where did you play football and where did you coach. Show some respect for the Coach.

The D is not killing us but our OC is he only calls same play up the middle and never around the ends

brokendownoldvol writes:

Ole well same ole same ole. Wilcox hasn't stopped a team on their first drive of the 2nd half yet. Who's the secondary coach? Tn's defensive backs look as lost as a Jr. High team seeing a team pass for the first time.

Classic example of team coming out flat and then deciding to play. 3 and out and the driving down the field.

and, the inevitable 2nd half collapse.

Simms....for crying out loud please play like a d@mn senior!

tdvol1989 writes:

Poole and Simms teamed up on a 1 inch lack of effort each. Then, Dooley clapped. That was a bad sign.

There is a script somewhere and we are following it to the "T" for Tennessee. Oregon, Georgia, LSU, and now Bama.

Let me guess, it is the freshmen.

lomas98 writes:

Not really surprising. Play teams tough for a half and then get rolled.

kd45music writes:

There's a very good reason for that. We can't get outside the linebackers and ends - not enough speed and lumbering guards that can't get out there, either. This one is over. Once again - no second half adjustments worth a phooey. Every team knows they can throw on us. Alabama doesn't have to run. But they will in the fourth quarter when we are worn down to nothing.

CrankE writes:

another bobbled snap.

Vol_Believer writes:

Since when do we decide to just throw in the towel for the season because Bray goes down ? Simms should be washing jocks after the game at best . We have QB's that we recruited for a reason . Why not give them a shot ? What more could we lose?
I have really had about enough . WIll this ever end ?

no they didn't. They said Alabama leads the nation defensively in three and outs.

The BONES say we have quit. Everyone knows that a rout is on. So, they just don't care. If they are not going to play and call plays with life or death urgency, then they just need to walk off the field.

Matt Simms is terrible. I hate to blow Worley's redshirt, but Matt is THAT bad.

Witch Doctor agree with the Simms thing..BUT YOU dont throw your freshman QB out first start against Bama...Witch Doctor say this IS the 1=2 team in the Country we playin' Witch Doctor say anybody thought we had a shot needed their head examined because they sure dont know sports.
Go Vols.

Witch Doc, I made that comment earlier, only I included Jackson on the list. Your football comments are much better than your political ones. Bones never lie.

I don't want to just beat up on a young man, but Matt Simms could not start at any other FBS school. Why in the world do we stay with what does not work? It did not work last year, it is not working now. Try Worley, try Nash, try something. It does not matter who this kid's dad is, he does not have the talent. With him, we can through the entire rest of the season down the toilet.

Thanks for the correction. Hard to catch what they're saying between hearing every cheer from the Tide megaphone and my own hollering at unconscionable errors.

We do when Simms is playing. I think last yr. before they finally got Simms out TN was 1 out of 50.

Notice how we do not even try to challenge extra points. It is a total lack of desperation to win. Sure Bama is better, but the best team doesn't always win. I say we are in 4 down territory right now all the way through the game. Richardson is really good, but he is not good enough to take on 7 guys.

Pray for a Special Teams miracle or Pick 6 to bring respectability back to Rocky Top. Next year will never get here.

We have quit, absolutely quit.
