Surprise! It’s 6-6 at the half in Tuscaloosa, where No. 2 Alabama is a 29-point favorite over the Vols.
The only scoring is four field goals, two by Michael Palardy and two by Alabama’s Jeremy Shelley.
Tennessee struck first, a 12-play drive that ended in a 40-yard Palardy field goal.
Bama heaved a 69-yard bomb to Marquis Maze on the first play after the kickoff but could only come up with a 26-yard field goal to tie.
Shelley’s 29-yarder put Alabama up 6-3 in the second quarter.
The Vols answered with an 11-play drive. Da’Rick Rogers had a 21-yard catch on third down, but the big play involved trickery.
On fourth-and-4, Palardy lined up to punt, but threw a short pass to Anthony Anderson who fought for a 5-yard gain and a first down. Alabama was flagged for a face-mask penalty on the tackle and the additional 15 yards gave UT a first down at the Alabama 33.
They didn’t advance from there, losing a yard. On fourth-and-11, Palardy came on and hit a career-long 52-yard field goal to tie the score.
