MARTIN — Montori Hughes was easily the largest person in the room during UT Martin's weekly press conference on Monday.
But when offered some of the pizza and hot wings set out for media and personnel, Hughes passed up on the lunch that he might have feasted on a few months ago.
"It's part of my transition here to get back into shape and get back to where I can play to my top performance," Hughes said.
Hughes, a former defensive lineman at Tennessee, was dismissed from the team by coach Derek Dooley in June after a rocky tenure in Knoxville that included multiple violations of team rules under Dooley and previous coach Lane Kiffin.

Good luck to Montori Hughes! We forget that these guys are making the transition from boys to men. It can be a rocky trip. We need to encourage them. We need more good men in this country, not more hoodlums. Martin's a good place. I'm pulling for you, Montori!

Glad to hear that things are working out for him at UT-M. That game he had against E. IL must have been a sight to see.

I guess he's happy being the big fish in a little pond. He could have been All SEC and possibly All American. It's a shame really when you think about it.

Hated to see him depart.
In other news, coaching turnover seems to be hurting the gators.....

Here's hoping you live up to all that potential.

It's gotta be a big change to go from playing in front of 100,000+ to about 5,000, but maybe that change will be good for him. Martin is a good school. Good luck big man and get that degree.

Wish nothing but the best for Montori. Hope he continues to slim down and improve. Sounds like UT-M is a good fit for him.

That sounds familiar.

Another reason our depth is very low right now.

Sadly, we would not have beaten LSU or Bama even with: M Hughes; A Douglas; B Brown; D Oku; BJ Coleman; J Jackson; T Bray; J Hunter...

I disagree!!

Glad Montori is making something out of his life..Guess it just wasn't meant to be at UT.
Smokey says we sure could've used the size in the middle of the D-line..
