5 Big Things against Montana

Dan Proctor draws the start of the Tennessee football season

1. Getting Grounded: The Vols ranked last in the SEC and 105th nationally in rushing offense in 2010. Last seen, they pounded out 29 yards on 27 attempts in the Music City Bowl. Time to ramp it up.

2. Montana vs. SEC: Montana's experience with the SEC consists of a 92-54 loss to Kentucky. Oops, that was basketball. This is the Griz' first taste of SEC football.

3. Dallas & The Four Sophomores: Sounds like a '60s Motown act, but we're talking offensive line. UT is believed to be one of only five BCS teams without a senior starter in the O-line. Thomas, a junior, is the old man.

4. Another Brick in The Stadium: Actually, there are 700,000 of them. That's the number UT says it laid to transform the north and west sides of Neyland Stadium. The face-lift also includes new panels depicting former Vol heroes. The Kickoff Call-In Show also has a new crib.

5. The Lost Art: Vol fans might reserve the biggest cheer of the night for a successful punt return. Devrin Young, get well soon.

I'd sit in the west end zone or the southwest corner of the stadium. At least the sun will be above you and moving behind you as the day wears on.

Keys to victory:
1. Show up
2. Put on uniform and pads
3. Hold on to the ball
4. Give your all for Tennessee
5. Go home, get ready for Cincinatti
In that order too.
Go Vols. At least 8 wins this year, maybe more according to how the young guns play. Next year, SEC champs.
By the way, que the trolls. If (rather when)one shows up, ignore and don't reply to their comments like they aren't there. They will go away then.

Montana is not well known in this part of the country but in D1 they are the winningest program the last decade. But this years team is down a notch, especially on offense. Their young QB has missed two weeks with an ankle sprain, but shoul...d be ready on Saturday. Montana has a defense that could match UT's, but the offense has struggled all Spring. Their defense has a true NFL Player in a 6'3 corner, projected to be a third rounder. Tennessee will miss the three seniors on offense early in the year that caught 1600 yards of passes last year. We saw Kentucky struggle last night trying to replace their receivers who caought 1900 yards of passes. The 99 degree heat in Knoxville plus the humidity will be a big bonus to UT as Montana cant begin to match depth with an SEC team. It will be tougher than expected as Montana does have 1 all american and three all conference players, but overall should fold away into the night. UT wins, but next week Cinn will not be so easy.

Sitting under the overhang at any spot other than the east side should do it. Be sure to cheer for the Vols.

OK Preacher. But I think you may be wrong. It all depends on the Fl game. If we win that one, we will win the east and there will be a rematch with one of the west teams. Could well win that also. So ask for some help in Gainesville. Please Go Vols

A few other items on the wish list. 1. Get some short range, safe passes to Neal and others in space. 2. Be patient. If the game does not come to us right away, play field position and eventually our athleticism and skill will take over. 3. WIN the special teams play! Field goals and punts will be critical in the first half..pay attention. Just my thoughts. GO VOLS!

OrangePsyched writes:

I think that they will wear down in the second half due to the heat and our depth. I hope however that we start out strong and don't have to rely on a tired hot team to put it on them. I respect Montana but if we're going to be a good SEC team this year we need to establish it from the get.

Their football program doesn't have much to ruin. Tn did make 2 sec championship games under his watch as oc not to mention winning the nc. Not too shabby.

I still can't believe our dismal running game last year..Chaney went totally pass happy with Bray last year and that's just not VOL football..I just looked at our 2 deep OLine roster and it looks da%n good to me..The play of Bray;Poole and our line will decide how far we go this year..Couldn't help but notice that AJ and Maggit are starting as LB's..Iam not sure if thats great recruiting or lack of quality upperclassmen..Lathers probably won't be game ready till late october

Good post!!We will see quickly if our WR's respond..Moore was an underrated key player and DaRick isn't as solid..You are soooo right about Cinn...The similarities are uncanny..Second year coach;hot shot QB and WR..and a 1200 yard RB..Like our defense they were #63 in total defense..Turnovers;poor special teans and failure on 3rd down conversions will cost us the game

You are correct lomas98. Sanders downfall was that he wanted to play Rick Clausen as we should have done. Mr. politics Phillip Fulmer wanted to play Eric Anige, it split the team and things went downhill from there.

I just hope we don't overlook them to stare at the Buffalo match-up on 10/1. Guys, let's take it one game at a time. I'm not saying forget about 'em, just saying let's take the first three games one at a time.

Mike, I don't believe anybody responded to anything you said. So, I thought I would respond to you. Here it is: did John Adams write this for you? I somehow can detect he did this for you as to return a favor for you explaning to him how to tell the difference between facts and heresay. Also, do you really enjoy working with John Adams? Now, once again, let me ask: WHAT THE HECK IS THIS ALL ABOUT. If comedy, I did smile a little and giggle once. But, was it worth it?

This is exactly the kind of unnecessarily hateful mess that I hate about fans today. That's right, try to make someone feel dumb at any given opportunity. Even a fellow Vol fan, ooshbag.

Dang, triumph, where ya' been? We would swap you for about a half dozen of our resident Florida trolls in a hot second. Hope that doesn't get you in trouble with the aforementioned, but trouble with that crowd would be a mark of distinction in my opinion. I heartily echo your sentiment that UT v. UF needs to be the premier game in the SEC again.

Thanks John.
Triumph has been dealing with a sinkhole problem with his house here in Central Florida.
Great business to invest in if you have the money.
Have no alligence to the trolls who come on here. Coming to a rival teams website and trying to bust it up with smart a.. comments is
kind of like exposing yourself in public except
you can't get arrested.

If anybody just watched Auburn luck out against Utah State it emphasized that SEC football is about the lines of scrimmage, plain and simple. If we can run and stop the run, Montana (and most other non BCS-level foes) will be no problem. If we can't, well....did anybody see Auburn/Utah State? 'nuff said.

Great time of the Year! I love Tennesee Football. Trying to be realistic with my expectations. Can't expect too much out of this young team; give'em a couple of years...and we will be major contenders in my opinion!

Speaking for myself, I would be delighted with eight wins.
