Tennessee football coach Derek Dooley had just finished his speech at the Orange Grove Center’s annual “A Breakfast for Champions” on Friday morning when a Big Orange fan approached a member of the media.
Said the fan: “Dooley must have been up there for 20 minutes, and he didn’t say one word about football.”
And that’s a good thing.

Big money has overcome college athletics and even for me- I become infatuated with wins and loses. It was an eye opener looking at Pat Summit's stat sheet when I read she never had a player who didn't graduate. At the end of the day, they are impressionable young adults....STUDENT athletes. It's hard to stay grounded and realize it is very difficult to have your cake and eat it too.

Question for the KNS. Once someone is banned, why re-admit them??????? Oh well, red-flag this one for future removal.

I also wonder what so many people on this board really want for UT. Turns out they hated Fulmer, Hated Kiffin, and now is seems there is so much hate and bad wishes for Dooley. One has to wonder, what does the future really hold for the Vols with such fan support.

Aside from the content of this story and more specific to your comment, I doubt our fanbase is any different from those around the country. Try living in enemy territory like Gainesville, FL. I did, and they're just as impatient and rabid as anyone else who takes pride in their football program. We want wins. Who doesn't? I too respect Dooley for the person he is, his integrity and character, and for what he stands. But 1-7 in the SEC won't cut it with UT. Maybe Vandy, but not UT. Aside from who Dooley is as a person, I have yet to see any tangible evidence or hope that he is the guy to get this program competitive in the SEC. I'd like to have him as a neighbor, but not as the coach for my Alma Mater because he hasn't indicated he can do the job, including winning.
Oh, I'll support my Vols like I always have. But supporting doesn't mean agreeing with. Do I want Dooley to succeed? Of course. Has he giving me hope that he will succeed? If success includes SEC wins, Nope.
