JOHNSON CITY — The University of Tennessee football practice for today has been moved from Milligan College.
The team will practice at 1:15 p.m. at Science Hill High School in Johnson City, according to Vols spokesman Jimmy Stanton.
The move was part of a contingency plan in case it rained, according to coach Derek Dooley.
All practices are closed to the public, but individual periods of practice are open to the media.
Dooley and selected players will be available for media interviews following today's practice.

The field at SCIENCE HILL is the new synthetic grass...Very nice

The house that Steve Spurrier built...Science Hill! I might be able to sneak over and hide in the bushes and watch. Very nice field. I heard they are going to scrimmage there on Saturday at 4 pm.

So will we move our games if it rains? Just wondering. I've always felt you practice like you play. If it rains in practice then that's that.

Go TOPPERS!
aj_vol#248433 writes:
Science Hill doesn't have an indoor facility - it is field turf (outside).
They are moving so they will be able to practice the entire week
bogey74 writes:
Come on Rich, you can do better than that... The practice is moved to another outside facility (in the rain) so as to not damage the facilities/fields at Milligan.
Tau_of_Tennessee writes:
The field at SHHS is situated in a low area between two banks. I would imagine it will be hard to keep the practice completely private. Good chance for the locals to get a peak at the 2012 Vols!... albeit perhaps from afar. GBO!
Rich_Is_Re-born writes:
I didn't mention practicing indoors did I? No I don't think I did. I was thinking if you play on grass, which UT does, perhaps practicing on grass in the rain would better prepare you to play on grass in the rain come gameday. Did my post bother you that bad? REALLY.....REALLY?
Rich_Is_Re-born writes:
See my previous post. Oh I forgot, this site is dedicated to "TRUE VOL FANS". God forbid anyone goes against the grain of what the "TRUE VOL FANS" think. No Dooleave, Doofus, Doolittle talk from me, NEVER. Just honest opinions on how I see things. It amazes me how so many on here push so hard for their views to be heard and respected while continually trashing the idea of doing the same for others. Boy this site isn't what it used to be. All sites have trolls, but it's the holier than thou "TRUE VOL FANS" that have ruined this site. Can't even post on here anymore, geez.
GreerVol22 writes:
I despise Spurrier...but like him or not he has the chicken heads where UT was back in the 90's and early 2000's...on top in the east.
I still say that jerking players around from field to field cannot be good for focus. But what else can you do? Poor planning and execution of the revamp in K-town of the facilities.

I just read your post and what I heard was:

Not sure, but believe are natural turf.

Since the VOLS open on a Friday night, just curious why the High School games didn't move to Saturday???

This is on par with the rest of your posts. Mindless drivel. Atleast you're consistent, and you do have a pretty good screen name.

There's a load of Vols Fans in the Tri Cities. Nice to see their camping there. Why do you think ETSU Football progam could not make it,, their all Vol Fans. Spurrier was All State QB and All State in Baseball and a good basketball player at Science Hill.
lomas98 writes:
If the field was that questionable and delicate, why was it picked as the destination? It's probably not as bad as we think though. Can you imagine the implosion of this message board if someone got hurt while practicing on the wet field there? Dooley is probably being overly cautious.

Love the concept of getting away and developing team chemistry. TB especially needed some time away to gather himself and concentrate on fb only..Has anyone heard if Peterman has completely recovered from that injury?? GBO!!

Relax folks. Practice moves from nat turf to syn turf all the time. No big deal.
I think the unfamiliar settings will be good for the guys. Makes them uncomfortable. Forces them to adapt. Hardens the psyche.
rbwtn writes:
I remember scrimmaging against Steve Spurrier at Science Hill when in High School and yeah he was the same then (Cocky) as he is now except he backed it up at Quarterback.
johnlg00 writes:
The Vols may have also felt some obligation not to churn all of Milligan's fields into mud pits if it was really wet. Those soccer fields and such don't usually get worked over by 300-pounders in cleats. That wouldn't be a problem with the fake turf at Science Hill.
BIVOLAR_BEARE writes:
Not to forget they play their first game on artificial turf in the G-dome..Just a thought.
johnlg00 writes:
The field might be OK in drier weather. The wetness over the last several weeks is uncharacteristic for Upper East Tennessee this time of year. Glad they had a convenient alternative, which may have been part of the plan all along. Despite all the talk about team-building and such, they probably would have stayed in K'ville if the new practice facility had been ready, but I hope they get what they want out of the time away.
Rich_Is_Re-born writes:
"Come on Rich, you can do better than that".....Guess that makes both of us smart a's.
But knowing that I'm your "pal" makes me feel better.

These practices on differenr fields is no different than away game fields, unfamiliar places just might make you focus a littler harder, I say make it as difficult as you can and make the unexpected happen, put them in a lot of different situations. GO VOLS VFL

4 Star Reeves-Maybin 6-1,205 just committed to the Vol’s. He is a gifted athlete that put up big numbers on both sides of the ball as a junior. He has played safety and linebacker on defense and Scout projects him as an outside linebacker on the next level. He has a lot of room to grow at that position, but he has all the skills to be very successful there. He can run, he has good size, he is aggressive, he can move in space, and can turn and run with running backs.
Maybin stood out at multiple events this summer, including the Nike Memphis camp and the Music City Classic. At 6-foot-1, 210 pounds, he's somewhere between a safety and linebacker. While playing safety, he's more than comfortable in coverage. He already has a solid body, so bulking up to play linebacker at the next level isn't out of the question. The Vols have a talented defender, regardless of the position he ultimately plays.
Jr. year Stats: Running 170 Att, 1,448 Yards and 31 TD’s: Passing threw for 1,267 Yards and 15 TD’s: on Defense 103 tackles and 3 fumble recoveries. All these Stats where for his JR. year only.

"...4-5 years ago, calling out the staff and ridiculing the players for NOTHING..."
NOTHING? NOTHING? We're just now recovering from Fulmers final years of complacency and mailing it in, and you say for NOTHING??
Your Fulmer worshippers are worse than the Trolls by far. At least they're just trying to agrivate. You clowns are in total denial, and that's a far worse "mind" issue.

Steve Spurrier was from Tennessee and he left the state to play QB for Florida. That was a very smart decision.
Steve Sloan was an even better QB out of Tennessee around the same time. He refused to go to Tennesse and he went to Alabama. That was a very good decision also.
People who grew up in Tennessee know to NOT attend Tennessee to play football because of the "fans" like this GREERVOL

I am tried of reading negative stuff about a team that is very dear to me so, I have not posted in a while. The #1 reason, imo, for the move to Science Hill was to prevent injuries to players on wet natural grass .The #2 reason, as one poster cited earlier, was to prevent tearing up Milligan Field. The Vols are going to surprise a lot of people this year. It will be so wonderful to see all the trolls eat crow and vanish from this site. Enjoy reading true Vol fans articles and can't wait until the 31st. all orange vfl.
