Ad for Vols' head coach posted on Craigslist

An image taken from Craigslist showing the "job offer" from the University of Tennessee to be football coach.

An enterprising individual has taken to Craigslist to either vent frustration with - or perhaps poke fun at - the University of Tennessee's ongoing search for a football coach.

The ad, which was posted on Wednesday night after word leaked out that Louisville's Charlie Strong had taken his name out of the running, was still active as of late Thursday morning.

Among other qualifications listed are the ability to recruit two- and three-star players, reducing player arrests, scheduling games with directional schools and to be able to not break NCAA rules while on camera.

Swiping references are made to Lane Kiffin, Bruce Pearl - "abide by the rules and regulations established the NCAA, unless he holds a bbq at his house, in which case that never happened and you've never seen that player before if anyone asks" - and to using funds from the academic side of UT.

True to form, the ad closes with, "Seriously, we've offered this to like ten people already, someone's gotta not turn us down."

LOL. Should have kept Fulmer and probably should have kept doofus another year or two.

Otherwise, you may want to look at promoting your OC to head coach, or something.

Petrino? He's good for a year or two, but he'll bolt when/if he resurrects his career.

Chaney doesn't want to be HC, obviously. Petrino would stick around for at least 4-5 years but at least the team would be better off in those 4-5 years.

Come on Hart.....HOW long do we have to wait to offer Petrino the position. Let's get a coach whether it be Fulmer, Petrino, etc....we MUST save our recruiting class, at least what we have of one left.....actually, even if there is anyone left that wants to come to UT.

I would not have a problem with that. Coach Fulmer has served his time in jail. No one loves Tennessee nore than he does. He still may have that " play not to lose mentallity " but you can bet his attitude would be different this time around. The Kids would be motivated and ready to play and for sure they would have the thing they lacked with Dooley : GOOD COACHING !

I will be happy to coach the Vols -- my salary requirements are minimal ( I'll do it for $500,000). I just want a buyout clause for $4.5 million...see, I will do as well as Dooley at a lower price:)

PS: I even have ties to UT, I graduated from there in 1968, so I have the passion for the Vols that Dooley did not (could not) have:)

BRING FULMER BACK NOW

orange_glory writes:

get chavis he is a tennessee guy. i know he has said he doesnt want to be a head coach but make him an offer he cant refuse. keep the entire staff minus a couple (sunseri and secondary coach) and everyone else stays on payroll. the cheapest option and chavis can tweak his staff as needed in the future. i also know he is still bummed about our loyality but prove to him we made a mistake and beg for forgiveness. he has recruiting ties everywhere in the south. oh my alarm just went off i must have been dreaming

Does even the most delusional fan think the University is going to bring Coach Fulmer back? Why even suggest something so ridiculous? It is almost as silly as digging up and resurrecting the body of General Neyland to coach next season or thinking Jon Gruden is heading to Knoxville.

All of those have or are currently being considered, how about some new ideas.

Hart should have turned the search over to a blue-chip head hunter committee. He obviously doesn't know what he's doing by letting coaches play with him to get big raises from their current schools. I have less confidence in him every day. He's starting to look pretty foolish.

civilianvol_formerly_marinevol writes:

UT made a huge mistake when they fired Fulmer, and I think most people see that now, though many won't admit it. However, bringing Fulmer back is not the solution to the problem now. We need a young energetic coach to come in and turn things around, and there are plenty of them out there (e.g., Butch Jones). Our main problem the last several years has been incompetent athletic directors. Hard to believe that Hart was so unprepared for this, when, after the first few games, few people thought Dooley would make it through the year. Hart should have already been in contact with the agents of at least 20 candidates before he pulled the plug on Dooley.

Wait a minute....I just thought of something. If we can't find someone that wants to come and coach UT, how in the world can we expect anyone to want to come and play for us!!!!! I firmly believe that whomever we hire, our program will now be set back at least 4 years. Wait a minute, would it be possible for us to go into next year without a head coach? If you think about it, it would save the university quite a bit of money and when we loose, I wouldn't have anyone to blame! Sounds pretty attractive if you ask me!

AncientVolFan writes:

Water under the dam now, but any coach in it for more than quick bucks has to look at the difference between the way UT treated Fulmer and the way Penn State treated Paterno when he had two losing seasons.
The names don't really matter, it's not about Fulmer per se, but the way he was fired and the demands of the fans. Most cannot see this, but a future coach, unless he is in it for the money only will.
Odd, isn't it, Penn State appears to have more morale around it's program than we do ours.

Not sure I read correctly but didn't Smart just sign a contract extension with Bama and state that he wasn't interested in leaving Bama?

I think he would be a good HC . . . that's just me though! He runs a great defense and has the personnel to be successful in a 3-4 scheme.

Onwards and upwards with the search . . . I'm thinking that Hart will turn to the NFL now . . . we'll see what happens next.

Alright I have to weigh back in even though the insanity is way overboard. All you experts on here wanted rid of Dooley so badly, you did not even consider the possibility that ineptness might still reside with our administration. Well, guess what? You got what you wished for. My mantra was we need to be careful in pulling the plug on Dooley(not saying we should have kept him),until we have someone of quality in the bag. Well, guess what? We didn't. So here we go again, being ridiculed and cajoled and of course refused by coach after coach. How many of those 4-star recruits will even think about UT now? It's a mess and may become even messier if the wise and wonderful powers that be do not come up with a viable hire in the next few days. Otherwise...let's see how did some of you express it...Dooley2.0 will be on the way. Then you will really whoop and whine. It's tough but we will endure and one day someone will be announced as the next head football coach at the University of Tennessee. Oh when? We just do not know.

Kirby Smart just signed a nice new deal when he was mentioned at Auburn. Why would he waste away in Knoxville? Quit the Alabama love affair in Knoxville, it aint working.

A lot of us wouldn't want to touch Petrino with a 10-foot-pole. If he's made coach, every decent Vol fan will stay away.
