Butch Jones on his meeting w/ UC players: "Everything we do is based on the core value of family...I told them this was my dream job." Coach Jones just won me over. GO VOLS!

I have to say... he sounds great at the live press conference. Seems genuine and not going off a script. I like this aspect, hopefully his sincerity is real and not a "tell'em what they wanna' hear" strategy!

There are some great points made by the fans who, both, agree and disagree with the hire.

If I could have a more experienced, high-profile, elite SEC coach, I would. This is not what we got, but we can be successful with Coach Jones. It leaves many unanswered questions, the same questions that may have been answered immediately by a different caliber hire.

I know there are probably many others who, like me, are so tired of the incompetence displayed in the UT Athletic Dept, tired of being the butt (no-pun intentionally intended, hehe) of jokes in the SEC and National CFB landscape. It's not because I want people to stop cracking wise about the incompetence of the most recent Vol squads - that happens no matter how much success, or lack thereof, is achieved in our Athletic and Academic Depts., respectively. I would be more worried if the jokes stopped completely, like when someone says, "Don't worry, I'm only hard on you because I care." Most of us are tired of the incompetence because we know it fuels all the prodding and jokes with truth.

I think many are irritated with this hire because it does not deliver instant gratification, it doesn't instantly make our rivals say, 'Well, the days of running over the Vols are over now that they have - insert elite coach name here (Coker, Tressel, Carroll, etc.)

I wanted to have that premier coaching hire too. I wanted that trophy coach to show off to the other schools in the SEC, to make a statement that UT-K belongs in the upper echelon of the SEC. I wanted them to be jealous of the hire. I wanted the current players to see this cosmic hire and, instantly, realize their only choice is to return for a Senior year and play for this incredible coach, even if only for 1 year - because, literally, they may never have such an opportunity again - ever.

This coaching search sparked the imagination of Volunteer fans around the world. It opened the door for the possibility of making a statement on a national level. It provided an opportunity to prove that we are still Elite and deserve our place in the Top 10 Most Successful CFB Programs.

Obviously, we didn't make that paradigm shifting hire. In waters filled with tsunamis, this hire makes no instant waves.

So we don't get the instant gratification that may have made Christmas on Rocky Top a little more exciting and a little more Orange. We do get something and it isn't a consolation prize, even though it may appear that way.

Continued in my next post, if you'd like to read the rest....

Intensity, Passion, Ambition, and a REAL desire to be a part of the Big Orange Nation are all attributes used to describe Butch Jones. He's made the right decisions to put himself in line to be UT's next HBC, that's a feat in itself. We deserve a coach who wants to be here and who has all those attributes.

Installing the proper staff around him will help decide the level of potential success for his version of the Vols. He may even be able to bring back some of the electric players from the 2012 Vols, that would instantly convert some skeptic Vols - (I've included that on my Christmas wish list too - Patterson, Bray, Hunter, & the other ProVol prospects)

Our new coach knows what we expect on RockyTop. I am certain we will get the best team BJ can produce. It's his career, his legacy, and his 'once-in-a-lifetime' career opportunity to coach on the biggest stage in his profession, on a scholastic level.

I know we will get EVERYTHING he has to give, I just don't know if that will be enough for UT to return to it's perch as a perennial power in the SEC.

These facts about our new coach are why I am now behind him 100%. I'm going to do my part to help create an atmosphere conducive to success in the SEC, athletically & academically - I hope you will put away any apprehension you may have about this hire and join me in doing our part to help create a new atmosphere in Knoxville.

Together, we can build this atmosphere where support for our Tennessee Vol coaches and players can easily be found around every corner and in every living room. An atmosphere where winning big-time games is once again the standard rule for our Men (& of-course, Women!) in Orange.

We can re-define our Volunteer Pride! We have the ability, as fans, to roll up our sleeves and give our unconditional support for the new coaches.

More importantly, we can give our unconditional support to the young men who give us everything they have so Neyland Stadium can be @ capacity... so they can entertain the fans with shocking, world-class performances... so they can become among the greatest collegiate athletes in the entire world... and, obviously, so they can chase their dream of being among the best professional athletes or scholars the United States has to offer.

Generally, they deserve every ounce of support we can deliver & we deserve nothing less than every scrap of physical and mental effort they can produce!

His name isn't Saban, Gundy, Strong, Tressel, Coker, Carroll, or Gruden, but if our new Head Coach delivers the success demanded by UT fans and documented in traditional records, we may just find the rest of the College Football Nation doing their best to 'Keep up with the Jones'...

Not a home run hire but we could have done a lot worse. I am a little excited and hopeful about Butch Jones. He did win at both the schools he coached at.

thanks for the compliment on my reply's construction!

The more I learn about this guy, the more I think he is a great choice for UT. He may be a real sleeper.

Hopefully, minus the NCAA infractions/violations, Coach Butch can deliver early results similar to the former BMOC, Vols' Coach Bruce...

Coach Bruce
Coach Butch... A different sport and AD, but a very similar coaching search that landed Dooley.

Hopefully Coach Butch will be Hart's Pearl - without the NCAA issues! Had Pearl remained, it's very possible the BBVols contend for a Nat. Champ. this year. I have faith in Marting though...

Anyway...

Go Vols!!!
