The University of Tennessee hired Cincinnati's Butch Jones on Friday as successor to Derek Dooley as the Vols' football coach.

And the Twitter world is abuzz with Butch.

Expect anything less? After all, you can't spell Butch without UT.

Anyway.

There have been positive reviews by fans.

There have been negative reviews by them, as well.

I don't think Coach Jones is, by any means, the next Saban or Spurrier. He will probably never compete for a NC every year. But I think he has the ability to be on the level of Bob Stoops. He has the capabilities to make UT a top 15in team year in and out.

Alabama hires a head coach with a national championship while working in the NFL. South Carolina hires 2 different guy's with a national championship. Arkansas steals an NFL coach then gets a guy with multiple conference titles in a respected conference. Those hires were when their programs were down mind you. UT gives us a WAC coach with a losing record, and now, a Big East guy with no SEC experience that nobody besides Purdue and Colorado wanted. Not to mention, he was at the business end of Dooley's "signature" win. How much does Hart make? We could certainly free up some money there. Jones would have driven down from Cincy and paid his own gas money and hotel to take this job if we had just ran an ad in the paper. UT doesn't deserve to be mentioned in the elite programs anymore. Heads should roll starting at the very top. Sadly, the fans will have to quit supporting in order to get an administration that values their commitment.

Nice play on words!! I was not happy about this hire, but he is at least a proven winner. It remains to be seen if he can withstand the SEC, but it sounds like some recruits are not shying away from him.

Great comments from current players.

I've read that he runs a pro-style, up-tempo, no-huddle offense, with a lot of West Coast style short passes. That should be a pretty easy transition for our guys.

Dude, shut your pie hole. Anyone with half a brain can see that the administration failed miserably in this hire. Some of you guys seem to enjoy coating everything in powdered sugar. This was a bad hire considering what we were promised. I'll support this coach and this team, but don't be surprised if we aren't back in this same situation in 3 years.

No, he gets an 'F'. Why? He fully bucked the boosters on this. That's a fact. I would suspect there are some very hard feelings behind the scenes. The fans and local media suggested we needed an impact hire that would unite the fan base, excite recruits, and inject enthusiasm into the program. So, based on those 2 reasons, he does get an 'F'. Jones is going to greet a great number of true Vol fans that are not happy with him.

Having said that, I think Jones is a big upgrade over Dooley. I believe that we have hired a coach that is intelligent and somewhat charismatic. I believe there is a better than good chance he will develop into a very successful coach. And, you cannot put a price on a guy that turned down 2 offers and possibly a 3rd to be here.

Of course, now you are wondering why I was so hard on Hart and yet complimentary of Jones. I think Hart truly stumbled into this. He chased 3 or 4 others, putting them off, hacking them off, waffling, begging, etc. Then, Jones was his fall back to his fall back to his fall back. He just got lucky. So, I give the credit to Jones here for sticking with it. I think he will win over fans in time, hopefully not holding a grudge over many who were disappointed.

As for Hart, he is going to have a very tenuous relationship with the big money as long as he is here.
