Vols OT James plans to return for senior season

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Tennessee offensive tackle Ja'Wuan James plans to return for his senior season rather than entering the NFL Draft.

James wrote Monday on his Twitter account that he felt "blessed to have another year to get better and another opportunity at winning a championship. I (need to) take advantage of it."

James has started all 37 of Tennessee's games at right tackle over the last three seasons.

Tennessee is expected to return four starters from an offensive line that allowed only eight sacks this year. The lone senior starter on Tennessee's offensive line this season was guard Dallas Thomas.

North Texas, Air Force and Middle Tennessee are the only Football Bowl Subdivision teams that gave up fewer sacks than Tennessee during the regular season.

IMHO, the o-line coming back is huge. Their experience playing together will be key installing a new system. With them, we have a chance at a winning season.

This is excellent news and a smart decision by the young man!!!

I hope other juniors make the same decision.

Let's hope Derrick Green realizes that he could start as a freshman and run behind one of the best o-lines in the nation.

The only thing that coach Butch has done that I "second guessed" is letting Pittman go. I can understand wanting to bring your guy in that already knows your offense but Pittman had one of the most dramatic single season turn around as a position coach since Trooper.

Your mention of Trooper Taylor explains your confused comment.

Pittman did a good job. OL is not hard to coach. The guy before him ....not so good.

Now, about Trooper. IMO, he is an average good position coach with a larger than average ego. He thought U.T. was going to make him head coach because he recruited well. His aspirations caused some grief. He actually issued an ultimatum that U.T. promote him.
Chest bumping can only do so much.

Great decision for this young man! I wish him and the Vols the best in 2013. Hopefully this OL will be as effective and continue the forward progress.
