Source: Rich Bisaccia no longer a candidate for Vols' special teams coach job

Tennessee's top target for its special teams coach vacancy won't be joining the Vols.

San Diego Chargers special teams coach Rich Bisaccia could not get out of his contract and was unable to say yes to the Vols for a second time in the last three years, a source told the News Sentinel on Friday. The source requested anonymity because it is not authorized to speak publicly about personnel matters.

With the naming of John Palermo as the new defensive line coach, the Vols are still in the market for two assistants. A special teams coach will certainly be one of them, as the Vols are looking to replace Eric Russell, who left last month to become coach Mike Leach's assistant head coach/special teams coordinator at Washington State.

Bisaccia was considered the top candidate the last time the job was open. ESPN.com reported in 2009 that he had agreed to a deal with then-coach Lane Kiffin before Kiffin left to take a job at Southern California.

That's ok. We didn't have a coach for special teams last year either.

true. so true

I wonder if he isn't happy. Going from the NFL to college at the same position coach is a step down. Of course, with the cost of living difference between Knoxville and San Diego, it might make sense financially

Danny Smith from Skins might work..has anyone seen him chew gum on the sidelines?? at least ten pieces of hubba bubba in his mouth at one time..classic!

VolinMem34 writes:

My understanding is he still has family in Tampa as he spent many years there with the Bucs. He wants to be closer to home, and we probably still could offer a good salary. NFL contracts are different than college- he may have not had a buyout to make. He has a year left and couldn't get out of it.

Probably 100%. NFL assistant contracts are strict.

Isn't that because we didn't have Special Teams last Year?

No, but we did have a "special" team.

Maybe. But people can't be forced to work. To end a contract takes remuneration. Apparently he or UT weren't interested in paying it, whatever it was.

Hart had to consider CDD's $5M buyout.

Dale Jones - ask people at Appy State if this guys can coach, motivate, and recruit.

Daryl Dickey (from Tennessee) not Derrel Dickey from Kansas.

Al Wilson - make this guy the motivator guy. Believe me, this guy can create EXCITEMENT.

Fuad Reveiz - he knows KICKing.

AN EXCLUSIVE Special Teams Coach. Don't split up this task with a position coach and then allow the position and the special teams to turn to the worst. There will never be another George Caffego - but at least we can check history and see how it works.

Whoever we get I hope they don't like short kickoffs so the coverage is better. I'd rather the opposition start at the 20 because we kicked it out of the end zone than the 35-40. We have constantly given up two sets of downs doing this. Don't know what to say about our current kicking game other than it was highlighted by kicking into our own players unblocked.... Is it coaching or personnel? I gues we won't know until we see a special teams coach.

Kicking off shouldnt be an issue, since we landed Bullock he has a strong leg. In highschool he averaged 70 yards on kickoffs. As long as we get a coach to help him with accuracy on FG's he should be a quick impact to the team and battle Palardy for the starting role. As for the blocking, we will be much improved. Its a team game and you need players that know what one another are going to do. Good Coaching definetly helps but with another year under there belts these kids should be fine. Same goes with offense and defense.

U need to worry about GA not Tenn. Dooley is gonna be fine hes putting together a winning staff and team. If it wasnt for GA's cupcake schedule you would be wondering about your new coach this year not someone elses coach. GA's played Boise and SC ... both losses. They didnt play another good team until Michigan St and that was a LOSS... so worry about your own coaching problems in GA.

SmokeyFTW writes:

Oh...and I think the Title game speaks for itself 42-10. Shouldnt have even been in it. SC had a better chance than GA

Right on. We had the best while George was the coach.

Hamilton made alot of upgrades on the stadium and building and DID give CPF a new contract right before he fired him.

People forget these things but Tennessee simply does NOT have alot of extra $$$ right now to do coaching buyouts, ect.

AD Hart knows this and he and CDD spent many hours together and ARE working together because Hart was very impressed with CDD and his rebuilding plan.

Posers and trolls spewing hate and ignorance are NOT Tennessee fans and are only here to stir the phooey and try to get some of our great recruits to go play on their favorite teams.

Look at our serious upgrades on coaches and at all the recruits that ARE commiting to UT and you'll see that these trolls and posers are FAILING miserable.

SEC teams see UT coming back and their natural FEAR of our vols is obvious so they'll try anything to hurt our program.

Last thing Hart said about Dooley's coaching was "UNACCEPTABLE"!

With all of these supposed recruiting gurus on staff, we're not anywhere near cracking top 10, and we're trailing half a dozen SEC teams in recruiting rankings with ALL 3 rating services. Dooley is so desperate to sign someone to bring the rankings up he just got a commitment from a thug in Georgia, who just a few months ago stole a bunch of stuff at UGA.

Fear away.... ROFLMAO

He's still a kid and deserves a 2nd chance, as do most people. Unfortunately they keep giving you more and more chances becuase they keep letting you post NEG comments on here. As for ou 15 rated recruit class right now. We will only move up because most of the other SEC teams your talking about have reached there scholarship limits and we still have 5 to give out. So will see. GBO!!

Just proving my point that many of you Dool-Aid drinkers were wrong when you swore than Dooley only recruited players of high character, etc. What a joke!

We still have 5 schollies to give? Really? You need to do your homework. Several SEC teams have more available schollies left than Tennessee does.

Do a little research next time before posting.

Really because you were talking about the half dozen SEC schools that are in front of us.. There are only 4 SEC teams in front of us..thats the ones im talking about.
SC-24 that leaves on more
Bama-27 that means there cutting kids
T A&M- 22 if you want to consider them yet..leaves 3 more
Florida-19 the only team with more schollies than we have left, thats in front of us
TENN-20 that leaves 5 openings and were ranked 14 or 15 depending on wich source your using

I do my homework and Im a true UT fan .... who are you

Glad you're a true Tennessee fan, whatever that means. (insert rolling eyes here).

And once again you didn't do your homework. Tennessee has 22 commits, so theres only 3 remaining openings. Of course, we might possibly lose one more who is reconsidering, but we're not in on any bigtime players if he does.

There are a few more good recruits still on TENN list that could come to UT...Korren Kirven, Beniquez Brown, Lorenzo Phillips, Gary Simon all 4* recruits also Quinshad Davis 3* Trea Elston 3* S ... I think those would count as bigtime players do your homework

Kirven probably goes to Va Tech. Phillips probably goes to LSU. We have an outside chance with each.

Brown is a 3 star. Simon is a 3 star. Not big time difference makers we need to close the gap on competing with several SEC teams.
