Cuonzo Martin breaks out orange blazer

NASHVILLE - Tennessee coach Cuonzo Martin has broke out an orange blazer for tonight's men's basketball game against Vanderbilt at Memorial Gym.

Martin didn't wear the jacket for the Vols' home game with Kentucky on Jan. 14.

During his six-year tenure, former coach Bruce Pearl wore the orange jacket for games with the Commodores and the Wildcats, in honor of former UT coach Ray Mears.

11-4 Vandy and UT cant do a thing.

Stokes missed from 1 foot to start and then our guards cant get the bigs the ball well at all.

Defense is very bad so far.

HOPE it changes.

Doesn't show local cable. Idiot Charter.lol

I love the Tennessee Orange color! Good to see CCM wearing the orange blazer!

HtownVol writes:

sorry, last one for a minute.

14-8 Vandy.

Tennessee has to be the worst team at simple passes. I think they just never learn from their mistakes. This game is hard to watch when UT cant stop turning it over all by theirselves.

HtownVol writes:

This is HORRIBLE.

SO MANY missed shots in the paint

THATS it..

our kids just gave the ball away on a HANDOFF!!!!!!!!!!!

This is the Tennessee team that played Georgia, Austin Peay, Memphis the 2nd time, Oakland, College of Charleston, etc. Just horrible. Stokes and Tatum need to sit the rest of the 1st half. Pathetic. 10 turnovers already and Stokes and Tatum have more than half of them together.

Back to form, I see Vanderbilt isn't having the same Chemistry problems UConn was. In theory we only need a point guard, too bad we don't have any more scholarships to offer next year, because Washpun, Richardson, and Chievous just had to have scholarships.

HtownVol writes:

Has a team EVER been worse at passes??

This is just pittiful. How does a team get so bad so fast?

HtownVol writes:

Words just can not say how SORRY this tennessee team is tonight.

I have honestly never sen such garbage.

Seriously how does a team just forget how to play all together?

MOOREVOLS writes:

At this rate we'll score 27 by the time this game is over. No offense, no defense, can't pass, can't dribble, can't hit a layup, can't hit a 5 ft shot in the lane, can't rebound. How in the world did we ever beat Florida and Connecticut?

They were both home games, and UConn had internal problems that manifested themselves against us.

Austin Peay and Pittsburgh were at home too. I just don't understand it. We're on pace to score 40 now. We're kicking into gear.

I meant on internet.

It sounds like our defense is not there at all.

If we can cut it to under 10 by half maybe?

I will hear it for this but WHY does MCBee ever play in this situation? He MIGHT hit one three. It is not to extend the D because oour team cant pass well enough to find the open man. He very may well be the worst defender in the SEC.

No McBee, Woolridge or Richardson when we need scoring.

To be fair, Jarnell Stokes didn't play against Pitt or Austin Peay. . .without him it would be a much worse season. Billy D just has mental blocks against Tennessee.

We'd be fine if we had a point guard, and maybe another 2 guard, but because we felt the need to give Chievous a scholarship, we have nothing left to give so Stokes will be carrying this team next year.

Watched the women's game and shooting just like they did and D is the same...will be a hard task to come back in this game..

At halftime and for a "defensive" team, this is just garbage.

More backdoor cuts and ankles breaking than at YMCA.

Skylar McBee can not guard a stop sign. The play on a fast break, I have never seen a player look so bad. The Vandy player didnt even do anything and McBee looked like he was waiting to get on a short bus.

When McBee can not score (which he clearly can NOT tonight), why is he playing?? With McBee on defense they are gonna score more often than not.

And Offense... Apparantly CCM says "forget offense". The simple passes are impossible for UT to execute.

I was bragging all week at work about Stokes, and now I have to hang my head at work tomorrow. Stokes looks like he has never played basketball, but then so does the rest of the team.

MAN, this SINKS!!!!

I never thought UT could look as bad as at UGA, I WAS WRONG!! This better be as bad as it gets.

Multiple times this year I've told myself that this team is just horrible, the worst since the Kevin O'Neill years and then they go and beat a team like Florida or Connecticut. Then the next game or two they just look pathetic and I have to tell myself all over again, this is the worst team since the Kevin O'Neill years. I didn't think we'd win this game, but I didn't think we'd look so horrible. Of course, I thought we'd beat Georgia and 3 or 4 other teams we didn't.

JimmyJoe writes:

Why did Stokes come here... What was he thinking? He will be a worthless lazy bum like everyone else on the team ....this time next year.... This bunch of losing Sissies (no offense to you sissies out there) just need to stay in Nashville. What a total lack of pride!

HtownVol writes:

PLEASE, anyone who loves McBee watch him on defense. He just checked in for the first time in the second half and Vandy gets a open 3. He looks so lost out there. Like a fat kid guarding D-Rose. I simply am tired of seeing McBee (tonight). He can not score and he gets beat by everyone and their mother.

FanNotSheep writes:

Home Vols vs. Road Vols = Night and day. Just about what you'd expect from a team with few previous starters whose best player is a few weeks removed from high school. Hopefully tonight's pain will be remembered next season when maybe the team will be capable of a little payback.

Skylar McBee is nothing short of horrible tonight yet he stays in the game. A wide open shot and he loses the ball going up. He can not guard Jenkins, yet he stays in the game.

McRae attempts to drive the ball and falls over his feet.

Maymon wont stop taking layups "granny" style.

UT had to smoke a few before this game.
This is trash we are watching.

It is hard, yes.. VERY! But I never miss one second of UT basketball or football.
That said, this was the worst game I have seen in so many years. I cant remember a worse one. Been watching since about 97'. Buzz never had "talent" like Martin is supposed to have.

McBee was overmatched badly tonight but the entire team was just horrible.

The most frustrating thing to watch is the fact that UT simply has no clue how to pass a basketball...AT ALL!

Better learn to manage emotions and show some maturity. That kind of behavior tends to bite you. Stokes had a great beginning, but his immaturity is being exposed. His shining star was a little dim today.

The best retort to the apologists is "Why does Chievous have a scholarship", you can also insert Washpun and Richardson in there.

The Georgia game was worse. No question. This was bad, but Georgia was worse.

Very hard to watch and keep my composure, but watched it till the end. Still believe in our team. As long as they take what mistakes they made tonight and learn from them. The orange blazer is a contentious item.

Maybe Martin should lose the orange blazer.

Better still: Maybe the orange blazer will lose Martin.

The BB HC is undeniably a decent guy, who has great values, and has been an amazing overcomer, with an All-American family. He will be rich if he invests his two year$$ here the right way.

But he is another Mike Hamilton hire, like Derrick Doodly---boy scout but lousy at coaching. (The proof is in the W-L record; all winning coaches did not have to shoot, lie, rob or kill to win.)
Consider Coach "K," Tom Landry, the guy at Col. State who won the NC, etc, etc.

So Hamilton, who so many Vol fans were calling a good "Christian man," proved his religion and his competence are at different levels, apparently. Same for those he hires, although the baseball coach was not touted as a boy scout.

If somebody were to pay off all the screw ups that Hamilton made in personnel matters, the total may be more than 50% of any ONE of the University of Memphis's, MTSU's, UTC's, TSU's, APSU's, UTM's total athletic budgets.

And when the people now on payroll are fired, they have the equivalent of years and years of their salaries to be paid.

Just like Hamilton himself who negotiated a big "go away" payout, just before he was sent packing.

After all...all these coaches AND Hamilton have the same athletic agent.

So...uh...does that sound a little like something that needs to be at least looked at by the TBI, or what?

Ethics questions---you betcha. (Remember, though, all the backers said it was all about "good, Christian.")

Maybe the picture beside that phrase in the dictionary Hamilton used looks like Richard Nixon.

And the photo beside the phrase "successful coach" looks like Bill Battle or Wade Houston.

And the picture beside the phrase "Board of Trustees" looks like an empty room with "gone on vacation" on a sign on the door.

And the picture beside "Volunteer Fan" looks like an all-day sucker.

To say it as it should be said...
He (Martin) should take of that jacket until his players earn the right to see him wear it.
Martin didn't play but his team did(well sorta). Maybe he bears some responsibility but his jacket had nothing to do with This game.lmao That said, I don't think he'll put it back on for a few games.
